TDCAU Medley Sugarfoot DRUM CAM [split screen] - HIStory Tour

  • Here is rare footage exclusively from my private video archives - NEVER seen before until now. :)
    Note: I was the only performer on stage Michael ever gave permission to film using an “iso camera” - which allowed me to capture my drumming during the HIStory Tour. I was blessed he allowed me to do this!!…Some parts came out a bit out of focus due to the smoke from the stage and vibrations....I apologize for this!!…I will continuously post more footage.
    ►About Jonathan:
    Jonathan “Sugarfoot” Moffett has recorded and/or toured with some of the greatest pop artists of our time, including Elton John, Janet Jackson, The Jacksons, Quincy Jones, Diana Ross, Cameo, Lionel Richie, George Michael, Kenny G, Doug Miller, Peter Cetera, Bill Meyers, and Cirque du Soleil, besides guest appearing at popular television shows like The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, Saturday Night Live, and The Arsenio Hall Show.
    Among his biggest musical feats, none come close to his extensive work with the all-time greatest pop artists of the last 100 years: Michael Jackson and Madonna. Jonathan toured extensively with Madonna and recorded drums for several of her albums, including “True Blue” and “Like A Prayer”. As for the king of pop himself, Jonathan was his drummer for The Destiny Tour, Triumph Tour, Victory Tour, 1988 Grammy Awards with Michael, HIStory Tour, Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, This Is It, & Cirque’s Immortal World Tour.

    The Royal Brunei was to me Michael's most emotional gig as it was raw and was a hybrid between Dangerous and History plus I believe it was 1 of the only fully live gigs of the tour

    • @danjab64
      @danjab64 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed

    • @VinVonVoom
      @VinVonVoom 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The last gig Michael did fully live with no playback elements was the Triumph Tour in Inglewood, from the Victory Tour onwards playback elements were used for things like the gong in Beat It. The last time Michael's vocals were completely live was the Bad Tour in Brisbane in 1987. The following concert of the tour used playback for the verses in Man In The Mirror.

    • @bartgielen119
      @bartgielen119 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VinVonVoom not entirely true, Bad had his own background vocals running with the backup vocalists in 1987 as well. but yea lead vocals brisbane was his last fully live show

    • @VinVonVoom
      @VinVonVoom ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bartgielen119 Well the Triumph Tour had playback backup vocals on Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough and the Victory Tour had playback gongs for Beat It, so technically the last Destiny Tour show in Hawaii would've been the last fully live show.

    There is a question i'd like to know for years.
    Did you play the playback songs with earphones? I wonder how you managed to stay in the right timing because the playback vocals have their own BPM right? So logical you needed to have earphones with a click track and vocals on it?
    I can't see earphones? Maybe those are tiny in-ear ones?
    Hope you can answer me.

    You have to take into consideration The Genius of Sugarfoot he had to play on Beat each and every song Michael did While matching the cues in the body movements that Michael will make and then add on to the fact that a lot of the sound effects we're not even a part of the actual setup of the instrumentation that was on that stage which mean the whole band had to be in one Accord which meant one wrong note and it would have been over there is one Jonathan Sugarfoot Moffett that's it

    This drum beat is so iconic. Incredible to watch Sugarfoot playing it. What I wonder though, and perhaps someone more knowledgeable can shed some light on this … Most of the song Michael did not sing live. Parts he sang live are so different and distinguishable. In these scenarios where the singer does not sing live, are instruments played live or not? In other words, does the band play live and only vocals are added (seems really difficult to do) or is the entire song with all the instruments played from the tape and band plays over the full track, adding perhaps some nuances, because with those powerful speakers, whose gonna hear the live "source" anyway? I am really curious how this works. I’ve been shooting bands for live tv and sometimes the drums are literally muted, you can beat them as hard as you want but little to no sound is coming out, but I doubt this is the case here. I think it’s more of a masterful mixing.
