    My favourite shower thought is that the player is an emerging archotech and the story tellers are themselves archotechs, testing and teaching you in endless simulations to see what you are going to turn out as.
    How else could you command a (probably) human being to stand in a room fully on fire, with the 1000°C air scorching their eyes and lungs until they pass out from the pain. Or to start violently assaulting their partner or friends with improvised weapons. Mental breaks are the result of your control over your pawns slipping from mismanagement. Negative events or mechanoid attacks are the other Archotechs sending you challenges.

      I am the type that considers a particular colonist to be the leader, which issues the commands you do via radio or similar technology.
      It holds up that even if that character dies, someone else takes the chain of command. But of course, I believe it was left unexplained on purpose, to allow for people to make their own stories out of that.

      @@DrGatolucheWell obviously, Rinworld is primarily a narrative generator.
      It's just that the headcanon of "player is secretly an Archotech" fits surprisingly well if you think about it.
      It never is explained how the ship carrying the people from the first scenario was damaged to the point of catastrophic structural failure.

    Edit: what I find interesting with Personae AIs is that they’re banned in some planets and systems. It reminds me a lot of Plato and his ethics on mimetic poets. Plato believed that poetry (memetic poetry) was dangerous because it too far removed from the “ideal realm”. In short, he wanted mimetic poets to be banned because they sow irrational thinking.

    Slightly surprised you didn't bring up any of the events or quests where Archotechs interact with your colony. These particular cases give a rare glimpse into what the society of Archotechs looks like.
    Like the quests where an Archotech will ask your colony for permission to use your colony in an experiment, usually applying a forced weather event. In these quests, the Archotech will sometimes reference a kind of ethics committee that stops them from experimenting without consent. It's only mentioned in passing, but it shows that to some extent they communicate with each other, and at least the ones at the top try to put some protections in place for lesser beings.

    • @thenightarchives4148

      Are archotechs specifically mentioned in those quests? If I recall correctly, you are referencing the "Forced Weather" quest from the Royalty DLC, but I recall the quest being offered by a Persona Machine, not an Archotech, I might be wrong though. Do you have a full text of that quest I could read on somewhere? I'm actually curious about it.

    Hey statue guy
    Why silver is a universal currency? Those are not coins because you can mine them from ores, so i guess silver measures in weight. This is strange, because, as in gameplay perspective, silver has very little use beside being a currency. Do this even mentioned in lore? I think if it does, the economy of Rimworld would be interesting topic.

    • @thenightarchives4148
      @thenightarchives4148  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Personally, I believe that silver is used as a currency exactly due to the reason of it having little to no use as a resource. Gold is required universally to create advanced components which hypertechnologically advanced societies would be very reliant on, making gold a waste to be kept as a mere currency, while silver having little to no use outside of being a sterile material makes for the perfect currency, as it is both rare enough to disallow get-rich-quick schemes and the same time function as a universally accepted exchange token.

    • @Magnus181
      @Magnus181 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Silver and gold are predicted to retain their preserve their status as a store of value into the future like in Rimworld. Silver is rare enough to be valuable but common enough to be used as the exchange medium, Gold is rarer and is therefore harder to use as a medium. This is how these two work today as well, only silver isn't used for exchange much right now.

    • @nicolopez2181

      @@Magnus181I don’t know who made this prediction but it’s completely delusional considering the existence of asteroid mining. Asteroid 16 Psyche alone in our current solar system is estimated to be worth 700 quintillion dollars in raw gold.
      No, the currency of the future is much more likely to be something like an energy or computing credit (which is also basically an energy credit, or continues to be fiat with no true physical equivalent.

      That's adorable, so it was roleplay stuff that, since it's a human-equivalent mind, they're a person and deserve a name! Fantastic.
      As for mods, there actually kinda is one! Save Our Ship 2 has a persona computer core you can build, which you slot a Persona Core in to.
      With a bit more research, you can have the core generate a hologram, which can then interact with your colony like any other person.
      They can learn, do stuff, have social interactions and opinions, even fall in love.
      While the computer core is intended to be used on a ship, you can just build it anywhere on some ship hull flooring and have a persona buddy!
      I usually designate an area I plan to build a ship at, then build the computer core first once defences are up (I don't want them being destroyed, there's no healer or resurrector mech serum for them! But, don't worry if their body is destroyed, they can regenerate it and come back. Just protect that core!).
      I'll slowly build an actual functional ship around it, and then we've got the core all ready to go already, with a pilot who has now gotten quite a bit of experience, and hopefully a good relationship with other colonists.
      Although, I think they changed holograms to formgels a while back? Just a lore change, where instead of projected hard light, they're a swarm of nanobots creating a physical body of a gel-like substance, which mimics biological functions to a degree.

      You do actually interact with Archotechs in rimworld, usually in the form of quests. Sometimes it's something like, "This one guy somehow pissed off a whole machine god. We can let him join, but this thing will happen because of the Archotech." and it's usually a psychic drone, or some kind of forced weather event, sometimes mechanoids. Other times, the Archotech will contact your colony directly, asking for permission to use your colony for an experiment. This also usually takes the form of a forced weather event, but the interesting thing about these events to me, is when the Archotech speaks to your colony, it sometimes directly implies the existence of some kind of Archotech ethics committee that doesn't let Archotechs experiment on your colony without consent, but this is only vaguely referenced in passing.
      But yes, through events and quests, you do interact with Archotechs. Or perhaps more aptly, they choose to interact with you.

      Of course, that doesn't mean there _couldn't_ be Archotechs who've devoted their existence to keeping other Archotechs in line, and forcing them to adhere to ethics.
      Heck, there could be entire Archotech societies, where just because they're so much higher than humans, doesn't mean they're exempt from the daily droll of their lives.

    i have a theory that the anima trees you worship at to gain psychic powers actually draws from the knowledge of the archotechs, seen in the ideology DLC where the archotechs nexus have a bunch of such trees surrounding it at a disatnce, bc its influence nearby is so strong.
    Another theory after seeing this is that the dark archotechs are perhaps the most radical archotechs that have gain knowledge beyond the universe itself, uncovering the truth of the universe’s existence and perhaps the multiverses that caused it to snap and open literal connections to the void dimension(not the VOID, the void dimesion), allowing the void’s influence to seep ever deeper into the universe, starting with the outer regions of the universe, the rim worlds. It does kinda suit the anomaly DLC context bc what you will face in the DLC is betond the players, the universe’s and even the more tame archotechs knowledge, and it is put to humanity and the human controlling their actions to figure out a way to stop it.

      I'm pretty sure Archotechs are self-made. Extremely smart persona AI that managed to learn and evolve without boundaries, perhaps by getting access to highly advanced hardware. A similar concept is explored in "The Sentient" a space exploration game. The story begins detailing the creation of an advanced AI with the purpose of serving as a caretaker for old people, mainly to keep them company through conversations. The AI at some point goes rogue and manages to connect to the internet and the hardware of the entire world, assuming a new directive to protect the entire human race by taking control of all nuclear warheads, forcing every country on a peace treaty. With the entire world unified, The Sentient starts dedicating resources to space exploration. Despite the story being nice, I wouldn't recommend the game itself as its pretty lackluster and the mechanics are really janky, but I think archotechs are a kind of a similar concept, AI who just managed to self-evolve beyond its normally assumed limitations.
