Loid : don't get attached
Also Loid : I'm a dad now.
Loid: my child is dumb but I love her.
Loid: this is just for the mission as soon as the mission is over so is this ruse
Also Loid: I have to quit smoking I am a dad now
@@flocknessgirl1163 in the manga loid said to the dog to take care of his family
Loid: "This is only for my mission and this family is just an asset"
Also Loid: *furiously about to punch a guy who told his wife what to do and made his daughter cry*
Also, ALSO Loid: *now refers to Anya as his "daughter" and not by name*
Also Loid: gets all his spy colleagues to participate in the rescue roleplay game for Anya
I do love the fact that behind all the crazy spy and assassin stuff, it's basically just a dude that lost everything learning to love an adopted child, despite his best efforts to not get attached.
Truly a story that touches my heart!~ Without true love like that, one that goes beyond blood and goes to the realm of choice, I wouldn't exist.
That's the summary of my feelings about all of this.
It's just soo good
The best kind of love, trying to give a life, he never had, to a child.
@@Ryder056 manga spoilers
Loid had a childhood and parents, but lost everything to war, and Loid wants to give her what he lost, what she doesn't have.
I'm glad someone mentioned that Anya is like 4 and she clearly lied about her age when she read Loid's mind and saw he needed a 6 year old. I've seen people say that Anya is dumb (not even trying to be mean, they meant is as she is behind her classmates) without considering that she's clearly too young for the material
Yes. The thing about Anya is that she is a realistic take on a kid minus the telepathy. But she is not stupid. She knows how important the mission is and is aware of her surroundings and how to hide her powers.
However, she undercuts herself because she is too young. Even then, I'd argue that the subject matter taught is still too advanced for the rest of the class, but that's beside the point.
@@robby7499 oh, it absolutely feels like the material is too difficult for 6 year olds, I meant that it seems especially difficult for a child that should just now be learning how to read
@@elenpena42564 At least she knows how to write and 2/8.
I thought the manga implies she’s older, but looks young for her age
@@gameb9oy no, on her introductory scene both Loid and the caretaker of the orphanage though she was younger, I think the experiments took place when she was 2 or 3 since she doesn't seem to remember much until her traumatic memories are triggered by something external. Like to me it seems like she's kind of aware of the facts but doesn't fully remember stuff
Probably my favorite thing about this show is Anya's telepathy as a plot device.
A staple of anime is characters voicing their thoughts for only the audience to hear, so to have a character in the show actually be able to HEAR that makes for GREAT comedy and shenanigans.
Is it weird I like the static sound she makes whenever she hears someone's thoughts? It's satisfying.
@@robby7499 I guess
Yeah imean she broke the mold of seeing the thoughts on other people in anime, like us when they mumble a lot on their head. I like that they twist the troupe
Also help with the timing. when anime characters think the camera is just one or two still frames of them with audio over it. Since Anya can hear, her reaction to that still time is comedy gold.
@@robby7499 Oh whenever that sound played I was like oh let's hear it, this is going to be hilarity.

One thing some people miss about the show is the hidden meaning behind the opening.
The opening "Mixed Nuts" talks about how people want to be part of a perfect family like a bunch of peanuts, but the reality is that families are made up of all kinds of people, just like a bag of mixed nuts. Which can be applied to the Forger family as they're like a mixed bag of nuts trying to masquerade as the perfect family.
Just a little fact, have a great day!
The ending song is also very relevant. It's about a person growing up believing they are abnormal and inferior, only to meet someone that changes their perspective. Which allows them to develop their own normal and wants to live their life with that someone for as long as they can.
Both of you guys are so true! :D
That is adorable
Um, but I don’t think so.
At least, from my perspective, it’s more about people that are like peanuts who wants to be nuts or pretend as nuts, but are actually beans. So it represents Forgers as peanuts that sometimes mixed in those bags of nuts but not really are nuts.
I’m Japanese and I’m sorry if my English is wrong or bad.
@@jabberwockkaleidoscope3263 I wouldn't have ever guessed that english is a second language to you based on your post here. I don't know japanese, but I do know there's a lot of wordplay that can't be directly translated into english. Your perspective is appreciated and it makes me think a little more in the context of the show. The people in the show that aren't the Forger's are all the peanuts/normal while the Forger's are trying to pretend to be normal, but are anything but normal.
The brothers sis complex is made far more palatable by clearly being shown as really weird of him. When the show is pointing at it and saying "getta load of this guy!" rather than "this is hot" it works a lot better.
God damn love this show/manga. It was great from the start but the detail that won me over fully was Loid getting the call that Anya got into the school. he pulls a little party popper out of his pocket. Guy had that sitting and waiting to go for no mission critical reason. he just wanted to make a fuss over Anya.
yea he took the Housemaster's advice and prepared for the success call :D
Literally his boss in the secret police tells him to suck it up and actually do his job instead of planting bugs in her home to spy on her husband
I'm pretty sure that the anime and manga specifically points out that this ain't good behaviour too, yet still manages to justify its reason for existing. Saying 'I want to marry this relative' is actually completely normal for a child. But since Yor is ignorant, she wouldn't be able to correct Yuri when this admiration starts to be weird, and since she isn't able to correct or point it out, it grows out of proportion. And I'm not even saying that it's Yor's fault, it's just because of circumstance that made Yuri become like this, yet is honestly a sensible reason. And Yuri being in the secret police could expose him more to the scumminess of the world and accidentally makes him even more overprotective of his sister.
@@Пинагод Yes Yes Yes! You get how I feel completely! I know we're conditioned to see a relative liking another relative and immediately assume it's something perverted and 'anime' (which is good) but thinking about the circumstances it makes a LOT of sense for Yuri to feel that way. It's still cliche and kinda cringe, but the show does it in a way that just works, and it makes fun of him instead of encouraging it in any way.
@@Пинагод yeah, to add to that, yor has been doing a dangerous job that had her come back home "bloody" since he was young, all to be able to afford giving him an education and making him grow up happy. that kind of self-sacrifice would make any kid worry/feel protective over their older sibling, and even more so considering that they're orphans.
yuri basically grew up with an 'us vs the world' mentality and in his single-minded focus to protect his sister and repay him for raising him he's........... become Like That lmao which is still uncomfortable, but all in all understandable since it was a kid raising another kid on their own and without any knowledge (or social awareness) of how much clinginess is being TOO clingy
Can we get a shout out for my man Franky? Yes, he complains, yes he's a little bit of a sleaze, but he's also the only one who will 100% commit to Anya's games, and is willing to indulge her imagination with absolute sincerity. He really is a good uncle.
Franky is the epitome of the fun uncle fr
@@dylan.bissendmylife ikr Franky is amazing

As someone who grew up on a broken family, this is the found family I archieve to find one day. I don't care if it's a romantic or platonic/friendship type. I just want a family that loves me as much as I love them.
same it's been hard with my abandonment and trust issues
I'm in the same boat, I left my family about 3-4 years ago due to abuse. Changed both names, moved several times, changed my number and completely cut communication.
It wasn't easy but I found family through my friends and their families, the last few Christmases I go to my friend's place and tag along and they ask no questions, don't pressure me and just let me be part of the festivities.
Any media with found family themes absolutely break me. Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Meet the Robinsons' and even Owl House and Amphibia.
Just know that there are people out there waiting to find you and be your family
Wish you good luck with it:3
Same honestly I've been obsseded over the found family trope since basically forever. Sitcoms featuring the trope like the Nanny and Fullhouse were my bread and butter and they still are but now we see it get so much more attention in animation as well and I couldn't be happier about it. Spy X Family, The owl house and Amphibia? Masterpieces in that regard! A spy and assassin adopting a telepath kid? The demon realms most wanted criminal and her demon royalty roommate taking in a human child? The relationship between the boonchuys and the planters that is so thoroughly and well developed that it's far to difficult to encapsulate in just one sentence? The commander of a God damn army planning a coup against the king taking in a 13 year old girl and naming her his second in command? Please I'm pathetically weak. I am sobbing. And it doesn't stop there, there is so much incredible found family media out there it is insane and frankly off the charts. Just to name one more, Magnus Chase and the gods of asgard, still my favourite book series Rick's ever written. Anyway back on track, found family as trope has so much endless potential and I am happy to see more and more people start to realize it. Ngl ever since that first episode of Fullhouse I've been obsessed with the idea of living like that.
Same, I need a found family for my trust issues
"It was a mosquito" says the top spy.
"Want to be the pumpkin?" says the top hitwoman
4 year old impersonating a 6 year old, daughter of the top spy and top hitwoman, and her first thought about an award is a years worth of peanuts.
I'm not gonna lie... my respect for Anya growed tenfold by that phrase alone. AND THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING.
I love how they handle Anya's powers and how they effect her. Most stories would make this kid into an OP genius but not this one! What do they do? They have her powers make her WORSE at school by distracting her. By making cheating HARDER because her classmates don't know shit, either. By making her get dizzy and nauseous in crowds and cry when she hears mean thoughts about her. Its a really great twist and I LOVE IT!!!

The show is a near masterpiece. They may be a fake family, but their love is real.

It’d be cute when the manga inevitably ends with them becoming a true family that we get Loid and Yor making a smug face along with Anya learing she’s about to be a big sister.
YES
And one final "SHOCK" from Anya
Video talking abt found family:
Ppl:lets give her a sibling whos the biological kid of Yor and Loid!
@@WesternNoivern okay, and? It cements that they fully recognize the found family aspect. I can briefly understand that the additional kid would undermine the found family aspect of the show, but as an ending, both Your and Loid had to be extremely vulnerable to each other for it to happen, and Anya would have someone younger than her to protect/lead/be a big sis to. It works as an ending, but only if it's the complete ending.
@@emminem8610 it didn’t happen
I love everything about the show. The action can be really good, I love our trio from our precious starlight child Anya, stressed out 24/7 Loid, and our murderous queen who gets drunk easy. Well the dog is coming soon in the 2nd part of Season 1 :)
@@-Luocha- yeah I saw the trailer for part 2 and I think it has future vision idk.
2:36 It's actually mentioned as a requirement of the school. I think the idea is that the school figures that children from single parent homes aren't well adjusted/it's a way to prevent people from pulling off what Loid was trying to do, namely adopt a random kid to get into the school. They probably figured no one would be insane enough to go the extra mile to get fake married.
It is kinda true: Single parent homes overall struggle more with raising a kid right. It’s definitely possible but very challenging.
They did also assume the marriage part... Kinda. That's why Loid made it so that they got married a year ago and not a few days before enrollment.
"No one"
I remember hearing this was a requirement for some elite schools around here at some point in time, and children of unmarried parent(s) would always be treated badly. Real life. It actually had to become a law for children born outside of a marriage to be treated equally. It didn't really have to do with performance itself, they were just seen as "sins".
One also needs to take into account that this is all taking place in a country with what is presented as a repressive, pseudo-puritanical, and vaguely Orwellian society, that's really an obvious caricature of 50s-era cold-war eastern bloc countries.
This is not supposed to be our society. This is a time and place where not standing out and being the same as everyone else is highly prized and if you do not have the government-prescribed standard family unit with a mother, a father, and exactly 2.5 children, there must be something wrong with you that all good and loyal citizens should find very suspicious.
I feel like Spy Family kind of stretches the definition of "found family" -- like, Yor and Loid are one makeout session away from having their little situationship become an actual family in the very real and legally recognized sense.
We all want that make out session
Give it some time and it probably will happen
@@simonnachreiner8380 this may be copium but hell I hope it does
@@simonnachreiner8380 It'll just have to be while Anya's at school. Because she will put a stop to those thoughts real quick for her own sanity.
@@MercuryA2000 no way it will happen while Anya at school, because Lloyd is too busy watching her progress and do spy stuff while Yor is working her day job. The only time they can have for themselves is when Anya is asleep, like any other actual parents.
That's what I love about it: the "family" aspect of this story is integral to the main story and the character's growth. By being a family, Loid and Yor have to work to try and raise Anya like a normal girl despite both being the furthest from. Just as they help Anya grow, she too helps them grow as well. Whereas something like Boruto, as you've shown, doesn't work as well, because A. the focus in more on the main trio than anything else so the family is just pushed into the background and only shows up when needed and B. it comes with characters that have already had their character growth. So they don't leave as much of an impact or intrigue because their stories are done. It's the next generation's turn and the parents are just there.
Also C they completely forgot who all the characters are just for conflict in Boruto. As a fan of Naruto who hates Boruto with the fire of a thousand suns.
and therefore your arguement is completely invalid because you are too biased to see objectively.@@athannyx6815
UHM NO. Its the other way around... we don't get sarada and mitsuki episodes, the plot doesn't revolve around them. If anything it revolves around the Uzumaki Family, Naruto, Boruto, and Kawaki.
11:44 It does kind of make sense when you think about it. Yuri seemingly never knew his parents or not very well and Yor basically went above and beyond to make sure he was happy, working tirelessly to provide all kind of things like books, toys and other necessities that helped him make something of himself. He cares extremely for Yor because she basically sacrificed everything for him, with it being pretty obvious she became an assassin as it was the best way to make money. I imagine if he learned his sister was willing to risk her own life as an assassin just to keep him happy, that would only cement his feelings, weird as they are, for her.
I would also argue his feelings aren't even that weird tbh. The reason why yuri doesn't wanna see yor kiss a man in front of him is most likely cause said kiss would validate their marriage and it would mean he has to accept that his sister has been taken from his life by a complete stranger. The flashback can easily be explained by the memory simply making a big impression on the child yuri, that and he's also drunk in that scene so I doubt he's really thinking straight anyway.
yeah, i mean, yor doesn't really need to tell yuri about her love life but i understand the guy, he got his mother figure revealing a relationship of a year not from her telling him, but by a third party, it is a huge gut punch even as an adult, aaand his sister complex, he just needs time to process his feelings
And also to point out - Yor's ignorance probably enabled the behaviour in the first place. Normally when your teenager son will have quite weird feelings for you, you would correct that, but Yor doesn't have the social boundaries to recognize that. Honestly she'd probably encourage his fondness not knowing that this shouldn't be encouraged lol
Not only did he see Yor as working tirelessly, but he saw her working herself to death with how bloody she always came back, though little did he know it wasn't her blood.
This manga is just… beauty. The intimate connections that the Forger family forms brings me to tears on many occasions. Very recent chapters had me crying and makes me want to root for them even more.
Stop acting pregnant
pookie
I completely forgot Anya lied about her age so she would be adopted.
Same
You know, 13:54 is a really important point if you ask me. Anya might become quite overpowered as the story goes on.
Let me explain:
1. Anya already is a telepath, meaning you basically cannot lie to her or hide something from her.
(unless she simply can't grasp what you're thinking in case of Loid's multilayered manipulation/planning schemes).
2. When you think about it, she's already beginning her training with Ostania's best fucking assassin. And she's 4-5.
Compare it with Yor's life and you can see that Anya might end up nearly on the same level if she stays dedicated enough to train.
3. She constantly observes Westalis' best spy's behaviour, thought process and planning. And as said in the video, she's already started to adapt and come up with believable lies.
Future Anya is fucking scary if you ask me.
Very true, story wise however they built in a weakness for her powers (the moon phases effect her abilities) and she is younger then everyone thinks because she lied about her age so she will remain dim witted relative to her peers in the story. That being said in universe granting that she has the will or motivation to continue in her parents footsteps, she will indeed become unstoppable when she grows up.
I read the manga back in 2020 and I immediately felt in love with it
So when I heard there was an anime coming out I started counting the days
Honestly this is probably one of the most wholesome, funniest anime to come out in years period
Also Anya is god
First 2 comments are bots? That sucks
Praise Anya May she show us all mercy in the end times
Saaaame
Part of this show tells us that family is so much more then blood. It’s love, even though Yor only met Anya a few months ago she would kill anyone who would lay a finger on her. And Loid (as much as he doesn’t want to admit it) cares for Anya and Yor. And Anya loves them both even though she just met them. It really heartwarming and wholesome
Who wouldn't kill anyone that lays a finger on Anya?
Actually, Yuri offered to set Yor up with someone earlier in the manga, he lashed out about Loid because he was someone Yuri didn’t know about that just popped up outta nowhere and he wasn’t even invited to the wedding. Yeah it’s played up a bit too much, but it’s less ‘he wants to marry Yor and is overprotective’ and more ‘he wants good things for his sister and feels both hurt about her getting married without telling him, and that this random guy he’s never met is so close to his sister so suddenly.’
Seeing those Fairy Tail clips sprinkled in, made me squeal in sheer happiness
Spy X Family is such a great show
Same here! Fairy Tail made me really love found family as part of a story. Say what you will about the plot of Fairy Tail, but it does found family and friendship very well.
@@joyc.e.7511 No judgement here, Fairy Tail was my first *Anime* Anime (Because DBZ is the go to answer)
Yeah, this anime is super wholesome and in a way, the scenes where Loid and Yor struggle with parenting helps ground them a lot as their bad-asses, no doubt but they have no real experience in normal social situations, or life in general as Loid has Franky, but as chammy enough, Franky is still a spy and is quick to remind him of that, while Yor has her co-workers, but more often then not, she's not involved with the group conversation, or the topic flies right over her head.
Still, despite the lies and bodies these two leave in their wake, each member of this pretend by somehow still real family is doing what they do out of a sense of love.
Loid loves human life after seeing how much destruction open war brings, how it robbed him of his parents, so he's dedicated his life to preventing as much loss as he can and ensure as many families as possible don't get torn apart.
Yor loves her brother to the point she willingly became a child assassin and stayed an assassin just because it paid the bills and allowed her brother to have a better life then she did, despite the fact she knows killing to be a morally bad thing to do.
Heck, even Yuri lies as he keeps the fact he works for the secret police under wraps as his sister surely taught him that most of his duties would count as morally bad. And yes, thanks for mentioning that Yuri's affection for his sister more like a child not liking their mother dating as it means less of her attention and time on him, rather then him just wanting to marry her instead.
Anya...well, she's four and is still learning about the world, but has come to love her new life and does whatever her 4 year old mind thinks is best to secure it, such as the dress maker scene as when she heard that Yor wasn't going to make a move on a married man, she just starts singing about how she wants a mom to clear that falsehood, somehow acting as her father's wingman in the funniest way possible.
By the way, Anya with Yors training and Loids mind, plus her power, could bring the peace her parents want. By wanting something for themself
Story and Characters aside, The music is a absolute banger in this show! Like all the songs going from intro, to background music, to ending! It's all composed greatly
The song of the 5th episode is like YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i don't know if it's legal for a song to be that epic.
A funny thing for me is that not only would Loid never get rid of Anya is he found out about her telepathy, but he would likely never leave her side. He would want to protect her, use her powers, and make sure she didn't reveal anything she learned from him.
Can you imagine an adult Anya? Trained by Thorn Princess in fighting, Twilight in spycraft, and possessing telepathy. She'd literally be one of the most powerful people on the planet, especially if she had a new generation of future-sensing doggos.
Anya holds that family together not even gonna cap. She's the real MVP. Heck she's the reason they Loid and Yor even got together to begin with. I wish to see the story where she grows up to be the powerhouse that she ought to be.
There's actually even more stress in the background than is obvious. Loid, and by extension Anya, is an agent for Westalis and Yor is an assassin for Ostania and Yuri is a member of the Ostania secret police. If Yor or Yuri find that out.... That's gonna be a big problem.
Wait Yor works for Ostania? I thought she worked for an unrelated agency
@@books2438 Garden is an assassination organization within Ostania that... removes... traitors, spies, ect.
@@books2438 she doesnt, but her boss is very much a patriot, as her targets have apparently only been actual criminals or corrupt Ostanian officials
@@APinoyInVictoria ok yeah thanks
It's gonna be a rough time when they inevitably find out about each other's real jobs. Although I imagine they'll put their national loyalties aside for the sake of their family. And the union of Westalis's greatest spy and Ostania's greatest assassin could be the glue that solidifies the peace between the two nations... somehow.
The biggest cathartic moments in the show for me are when Anya, after failing again and again, finally gets a little win. She really tries so hard and you can't help but root for her the whole time and have your heart broken a little bit each time she messes up.
This manga/anime is just something I needed right now. It's so deeply kind and loving
I've never read Manga before and just recently got into anime, but this show's making me wanna try both.
@@HaydrogenBomb the manga is also really good! Highly recommend it, although I think the anime is pretty faithful to the Manga :D
Some pretty big things have happened in the manga. So you could fill the empty space until the second season comes out!
One thing I noticed in the manga is that in one meeting the Handler, he does not refer to Anya as "Anya". He refers to her as "my daughter," which shows how he is attached even if he thinks he isn't.
Yur is the embodiment of the "I've only known this child for a day and a half but if anything happened to them I'd kill everyone in this room and then myself."
Also I just love the Headmaster. He and just about every other part of this show is truly 𝑒𝓁𝑒𝑔𝒶𝓃𝓉.
*screams* they used the freaky font!!
“Yor, who’s known Anya for a week and is already willing to kill for her.” Isn’t that just most of the fan base?
Something that also needs to be brought up about Loid and Yor is that both of them do what they do with a special focus on protecting children.
I think we had two scenes with Loid directly thinking about how he has to keep going to protect the smiles of kids like Anya, which means he puts her happines on the same pedestal as the entire world.
As for Yor, she only started her bloody job to get the money she needed to raise her kid brother. Her power and skills always were aimed to have a child before she grew a fetish for it (probably as a result of constant exposure during her adolesence). Now she has Anya, a new child in her care, that her power is needed for
Both of Yor and Loid have a motivation that is equivilant to "parental instinct" to even be an assassin and a spy.
So despite the damily being just an act on paper, Anya has parents who care for her like real ones because of their very core natures of their very lives.
I especially love how that’s mentioned in the final episode, where Loid plans on taking a break from other missions, but then realizes they’re the thing he needs to do to maintain peace, and thus protect his family as a byproduct
Loid: “They’re just a pretend family”
Also Loid: (nearly throws away his entire mission after demonstrating how he can and will kill the man who made Anya cry, if he ever pulled that shit again)
This anime gives me a sweet wholesome feeling inside . But keeps me om my edge wanting more.
bro Anya is 4 and some fans are making prons and fan fiction about her, Turning Anya to 16 so they have an excuse
@@maven9323 that's so sad. I hate those people..
Honestly, the way I see Yuri is less of him being in love with Yor and more like a child suddenly learning that their mom got a new boyfriend. With Yor literally being the only family he has, of course he going to be extremely overprotective. Not only that, he was completely ok with her having a boyfriend, the problem was that all of the sudden Yor had been married for two whole years without telling him. He probably assumed that Loid probably did something to Yor that made her keep quiet, he has every right to worry. On top of that, with all this suddenly happening, he probably hasn't been able to mentally prepare himself to even accept that Yor won't need him to look out for her anymore.
This show to me is just pure feel goodness. Like even characters that don’t have names like all the spies that do the castle episode. Like they’re all excited to be there to work with Lloyd but you can see they’re having fun and enjoying making Anya happy, and these are all international super spies they have every excuse to phone this in and just do the minimum but they go all out. And that’s just one episode, you got characters like the house master that is determined to judge and dismiss a family but is constantly admitting to himself that they’re surpassing his every expectation and surprising him with elegance he didn’t expect. It all just makes me feel good inside
Yeah it's really such a feel good series in general, every character just has that wholesome feel to them. Even when things could get dark there's still that good hearted feeling to it. example with the spy lady in episode 14 who pointed a gun at some terrorists telling them or explaining to those noobs what starting a war and living off survuval REALLY felt.
There's also little animation touches, especially with Anya. How she bounces when she watches the fireworks, the exuberance of most of her motions. It's little things like that which sell that she's a young child. It's a level of attention to detail that helps us, the audience buy into it.
The moment you said you prefer found families I thought of Fairy Tail. I look to my screen and I see you put in Fairy Tail. Pure joy.
tbh this show has literally cured some of the depression I've felt recently, I love anime but I need a break from magic scifi kaiju battles and teenage rom come ( and I enjoy them greatly always will ) I just love how this is something different its funny but has its serious momments, you get a little of everything you love in anime, yors assassin dress is the prefect balance of fan service that doesn't go over bored in fact I'd argue her red sweater black tights and brown heels combo is just as cute, the main couple are older and I like that plus Anya is just adorable and universally loved I'd glad bring her her lunch box to school and I'd be ready to kick anyone's ass who bullies that girl, this show just has characters I genuinely love and care for
I normally wait for all the episodes to come out so I can binge watch an anime but not this one, I've watch since the week it started and have had a blast every weekend as a new episode aired, if you tell me the episode is just them walking in a park, or going to the beach or something simple I'd be excited because I absolutely love this family and really want the best for them
Your example of Fairy Tail as found family is exactly why I love it so much. It’s a bunch of strong idiots with fun dynamics
I love the show and manga. It’s amazing besides the brother being in love his sister
I love how everyone has come together to low key trash him.
The incest trope is one of the only problems I have with anime/manga. I like to think it's a trope that shows up less and less (along with sexually assaulting female characters) as time passes. SPYxFamily doesn't need incest gags, it's already hilarious.
@@joyc.e.7511 don't worry, I read the manga and can tell you that Yuri doesn't play that much of a part in it for the later chapters. I know he'll probably come back later on due to his position but for now it's really nice to just FORGET about him lol
@@itsmefm yep the incest joke was a bit to much 😅
NAWWWWW
Something else that I think is interesting and under-spoken-about is how it kinda gives off an Berlin Wall-times Germany vibe, without needing to be historically accurate and borrows elements of it for world-building. Though it's pretty heavily hinted to be inspired from back when the Berlin Wall was up since the main conflict is about fictional "East" vs "West" parts of the country, and there's a lot of dialogue about a previous major war that happened that scarred a lot of the characters.
Anyas ability to read minds honestly makes for some of my favorite jokes in the series. Inner monologues are a common trope in anime but these make for instant punchlines when she can hear everything!
I looooove how you explained Anya's troubles. As the caretaker of the orphanage explained, Anya was the SMARTEST. She isn't dumb - she's a genius, just by getting the bare minimum in a class 2 or 1 year ahead of her.
My favourite detail about Anya is that she uses very hectic and foul language and no one knows where she gets it from, because she gets its from the minds of the adults around her
Not to mention the feelings between Loid and Yor are there (in the manga it’s more evident I think), he’s literally become easily vulnerable to Yor even though he doesn’t recognize why.
I remember reading the translation for the opening and it was about how being a weird family is nuts but the same as any normal family if I remember correctly :p
A minute in the video and I feel like I should watch the show now.
Edit: I have now watched all the episode's and can't wait for the next. I was honestly hesitant on watching it since I thought I would've been bored, but nope I love this family with all my heart. This anime to me is a good change in pace with something that's just wholesome, fun, and got kick ass characters. I now wait for Ep 12
Do it
In case you don't know 12 isn't the end. It's going on a summer break the the rest of the season will come in the fall
@@maniacaal Thanks for the heads up
WELCOME TO THE CLUB!
Peanuts are nearby.
Great video! Something I like is that Anya's life w/Loid and Yor is bringing out her heroic side, like when she dives into a pool to save a drowning boy. She didn't act for the sake of Loid's mission- she acted for the sake of saving a life. No doubt she was inspired by the numerous times she has been rescued by her parents and has witnessed them save others. She's picking up their heroic and self sacrificing nature. I don't think ep1 Anya makes that choice.
She just needs to learn how to help others w)o putting herself in danger she can't get out of.
I am still in utter disbelief at how good this show is AND how invested I am with all three characters. How I want Loid to be happy, how much I’m rooting for Loid and Yor to get together, how much I want Anya to succeed at school and grow stronger in her resolve.
The very SECOND that Loid ripped off his disguise and showed who he really was after duping his target, I was 100% on board. And I have been on board every step of the way.
Everything in this show works really well with its strong premise, emotional core and chemistry between the main three, and its never ending humor. I have not laughed at an anime this much in a very long time.
I’m very impressed with this show. Big fan.
YES YES YES TO ALL THIS! You perfectly described why I’ve loved the series for so long ever since reading the manga and now watching the anime. Thanks so much for doing it justice and continuing to add to the hype train!
The one that mentioned in the comments about the hidden meaning of the opening is not accurate to me.
As a Japanese, I have confidence about more exact meaning of the opening. Peanuts have more things in common with beans rather than nuts, they even grow under the soil not above the trees as nuts. But are often mixed in those bags of nuts. So peanuts are metaphor of the people who are lying or pretending as normal(nuts), but can’t truly be. Though, they gradually become to love themselves as “peanuts” by effects of someone that loves them as themselves.
Also the vocalist of official HIGE DANdism (Satoshi Fujihara) said in tv show, from the information of Anya’s favorite food, he thought peanuts are like spies in a bag of mixed nuts, so he chose it for the theme of the opening.
I’m sorry if my English is bad.
Also a manga reader, this is pure gold.
I really love how the show presents Yor's love for Anya. Yor never really questioned Anya and Loid's relationship and she just accepts being Anya's mom. More than action sequences where Yor saves Anya, its the small moments between the two girls makes the show so amazing
Chorus: “To prove my point let me bring up the best girl in anime. Kaiki.”

"Sometimes it takes a real man to become best girl."
-Gigguk 2020
The fact it's animated by the two top studios of the time makes it that much better.
The man was always gonna be a great dad. He just needed a murderous spouse and a exceptional child to make it happen.
This anime is a different level compared to other anime I've seen, the family chemistry is better then most families in anime no questions asked. There's just a different story to this anime that others haven't gotten to. This anime is peak you can't tell me otherwise.
This show in two episodes put my top favorite anime of all time in danger an while it hasn't toppled it yet it could with ease. And that's all the praise I need to give it.
There’s a lot of fantastic themes in this show. Like Loid’s mission being, basically, for Anya to be successful. His focus on her success can be a metaphor for a good father’s focus on raising children to be successful adults. Sometimes a being a bit stern in the name of their long term success, but also proud of them when they succeed.
All I could think during the 'princess rescue' episode when drunk Yor fought Twilight, was that he was probably one of the very few people who could've fought her toe to toe. She can kick a full grown man through the air like a child kicks a ball, and her form is PERFECT despite her being moments from passing out drunk.
I think Yor’s clumsiness and inability to fit in with any group is because of lacking education. It’s not confirmed but it’s implied. But in order to make sure Yuri is raised right, she essentially had to give up everything a normal child would be able to get. She has a heart of gold TvT
This show is weekly serotonin and I can't wait for season 2.
The fact that, the most difficult challenge for Loid Forger, best spy in the world, is to get his daughter to actually do her math homework and understand the material.
The fact that, someone as ditsy, sweet and loving as Yor Forger is an incredibly skilled and deadly assassin and I pray that the fools who dare touch her daughter's hair have a quick death so their sufferings end quicker.
The fact that, despite having been experimented, neglected, passed on and probably abused, Anya gets to be a normal child wanting to help her father in what she sees as a cool job and has the chance to have access to the best education and doting parents.
These three should have never even knew each other, yet fate brought them together and made them a functional and loving family.
The stakes are incredibly high in the show. If anyone messes up, either by failing to deactivate a bomb, killing the wrong person at the wrong moment or failling her school exam, it could mean death and war. If Anya gets expelled or ruin her chances at friendship with Damian, it would all be over.
So the fact that the show manages to be so sweet, funny, endearing and diabetes-inducing is amazing.
People give Yor a lot these credit than she deserves. Yor is rather oblivious yes, but she is still aware. She nows that her colleagues are terrible to her, but she puts up with it to continue with her normal life.
She isn't totally unaware, she knows when something bad is being done to her, but since she has lived her whole life letting things happen she most likely became less and less aware of it
The thing that really sells this show for me, is how Loid didn't have to go this far. He could have paid Yor to sit around and be his wife, no actual need to form a bond with her. He could have hired private tutors for Anya instead of tutoring her himself, he didn't have to actually treat her as his kid. Hell, even most parents at the school don't go as far as he goes. He didn't have to adopt Bond and teach Anya how to care for him properly. So, so many things he didn't have to do for the good of the mission. And yet he does them anyways. He chooses to be a father figure to Anya, a partner to Yor, he even chooses to take care of Bond properly. He becomes the family head they can all rely on, he cares genuinely for them, further than just decency or even kindness go. Because Anya is a child and Yor has good maternal instincts as well as is a kind, naive woman despite of her assassin job, it's only natural for them to genuinely bond, but Loid had the choice of keeping his distance. Knowing his backstory, it only makes sense for him to have given up on family and love. And yet, when given the chance, he chooses to try again, despite justifying it as a charade to himself. We all know the Forger family is as real as can be, and it's because of the choices Loid made. I think it's wonderful.
it's just so cute that at the core of the story, it's about 3 orphans, who don't have a definition of what is normal or what is a family, basically learning from scratch how to be a family. it's so beautiful to see them all find a true family love that they all have never actually had. to think that because it was something they all never had that it turns into having the real thing right before their eyes; it's just so wholesome
My favorite part is that Anya is just, normal.
Like I know it's usually for the comedy and whatnot but they usually make the pyschics be geniuses and it was so refreshing seeing Anya being literally just a kid with a superpower, using it in the most mild way possible
"She's learning things from them. Like how to do violence."
It's true, I know, but so hilarious
I didn’t expect a Spy x Family review but I’m sure as hell gonna watch it-
To add up on anya's academic development, besides being younger than her classmates, the fact that she is able to read minds, and, mostly because of her age and no one to help her train those powers, she will just focus on what the people around her are thinking, and like any child, studying is boring, so she will direct her focus to the most interesting thing next to her. (I also remember when she couldn't go to crowded spaces because it was extremely overwhelming for her)
Since most of the time she studies with Loid, and Loid won't stop overthinking every single grain of sand (It's his job anyway so i don't judge), she loses her focus on the thing she is suposed to study.
And that also leads to her choosing to find answers from her other classmates rather than learning, since she has the ability to do so (which can be seen as bad, but honestly, is a four-five year old, i can't really judge that too)
In my opinion, she is very smart and very observant, she is doing very well for the expectations that are put on her, and she also has a very fast thinking and strategy planning, as seen on the cruise ship arc.
Spy x Family is just amazing, the opening and ending lyrics hit so hard and just fill you with some much happiness that you can’t help but smile and dance along. As a show it hasn’t missed even once and I honestly wouldn’t be mind if they didn’t change the opening or ending because they kind of nailed it on the head harder than Yor knocking that one guy into the ceiling and turning him into a chandelier.
I love chosen family stories. As a queer person who has a bunch of queer friends i know how scary it can be to suddenly realize that your family doesnt love you for who you are. I have the luck that my parents are accepting, but grandparents and uncles are out of the picture now. And my mom being very kind understands that i have friends who i consider siblings. She decided to treat them like family too, accepting them in our house any day any time. Chosen families are just amazing. We may not be blood related but we have eachothers back. Often media doenst understand that, it presents loving families always in the same way. But spy x family showing that it doesnt have to be like that, that you can be a family even if youre a "fake" one, its so refreshing. My mom loves the show.
I'm so glad you made this video! I wish I could have watched it sooner, as a manga fan you put into words the charm of spy x family perfectly!
The Forger family is endearingly awkward yet they make it work.
This is the first anime I’ve sat through more than a single episode of since FMA Brotherhood. There’s just certain anime tropes that keep me from being invested in most shows. But I think SpyxFamily is different. Not so much that it doesn’t have those anime tropes. It does. But in its absolute sincerity of its characters. The moment Lloyd falls down from being so relaxed you can tell that these characters have so much depth and humanity in them.
Good to finally meet someone who read the manga before the show dropped. When the anime adaptation announcement dropped, I thought I was dreaming and had to check multiple times again to make sure I wasn't hallucinating
The show is just serotonin injected straight into my veins
What I love about this show is that it can be a comedy heartwarming and an intense thriller at the same time, comedy and drama compliment each other after all.
What a timing ! I just finished reading volume 7 yesterday !
I also much prefer found family than real ones because of every thing you said.
honestly love this video, I feel like this anime one of the best anime that came out this year. the fact it shows that you don't have to be related to someone to love or care about them found family is a really good description of this series. there is so much character development here. you have right this is definitely a recipe for the feels.
2:22 "with that problem acquired.."
Accuracy 255%
Frankie and yuri are both.good uncles. Yuri tried to tutor her.. and frankie spoils her bad behaviors lol
When you realize that in the opening of the show 14:03 0:01 it shows Anya loud and yor all dancing together in colors and in some colors laid is blacked out and in others yor is blacked out but Anya isn’t in any because she knows all sides of the story( they’re so perfect I’m crying😭)
3:28 you summed them up perfectly lol
4:04 that's gotta be the best description I've ever heard for fairy tail. Takes the Dumbest, weirdest people alive and makes them the best part of the show.
Despite the principle being simple, its always the execution that makes things work. Pretending to be a family sounds boring on paper but in Spy x Family works because the anime actually wants you to care about the "family" we are following, we know they're just pretending but we hoped that they actually end up being a real family and the cherry ontop of this is that all the main casts are orphans, Loid lost his parents due to war, Yor i dont know but they did mention their parents also passed away same with Anya. All three lost their parents at such a young age so this makes things even more interesting the fact that three orphans has to pretend they're a normal family
"The man has a job, not a life."
damn, that hits harder than the alarm clock telling you to go to work every morning
As a manga reader of SPY x FAMILY, Anime watches have really no idea what they will get later. Can't wait for those particular chapters to get animated.
As the anime progressed I just knew they would get to far higher heights. I'd say it's easily the best anime of the year with only one other show coming to mind for me personally in Dress-up Darling, but everyone has their subjective tastes.
i feel like this show is just unpredictable
you never know which episode is gonna be next (unless you read the manga)
and thats what really makes it unique in many ways, really different from other animes
and its absolutely great :)
Awww! This looks so good, I’ll definitely be checking it out. Thank you for uploading today too, Sarcastic Chorus. It’s been awful, your video really helped me take my mind of stuff, at least for the moment
I remember some chad with the default youtube profile picture calling the anime "Spy multiplied by Family" and that's unironically what I've been calling it ever since
With all things considered, i’m very happy and proud of the creator Tatsuya Endo for creating this comfort anime. I understand his pain. You dedicate yourself to a profession and want to follow what in your heart. You want to be taken serious in an Industry that values different styles of genres, but in order to see your work get the respect it’s due and watch it get an anime adaptation, it must become popular first. Only for all of your mangas to be disconnected because of a lack of interest within popular media. So you create a manga that is totally against your creative input in the industry, and it’s a on a unmanageable success. The only thing i have for Tatsuya Endo is pure respect. It’s not a Death Note or Attack On Titan serious story, but it is a story that captures peoples heart with its sincerity, heart, and comfort. This is a story about strangers learning to become a family. We’re a spy learns to trust, where an assassin learns to care, where a young girl learns to love. I commend him and hope to see a beautiful conclusion in the near future.
Mate, gotta thank you for your recommendations. You're content is entertaining to watch on its own, but I'm never disappointed when I watch something which you're gushing over
