Just watching him do this stuff, especially from behind is amazing. I have studied drum music for years, so I can understand a lot of what he is doing, and because of that, he for sure is a musical genius. What took me yrs to understand, and just touch on in play, he just figured it out every time he sat down to play. And with that, I say "Thank you Phil." ....from the bottom of my heart....I say thank you...
It helps when you are locked into a player like percy Jones. I have the Unorthodox Behaviour on Vinyl and it still gives me a stiffy everytime I listen to it 🙂@@lesgoe8908
Bruford is significantly more musical. Phil *might* have the chops, but Bill did this at a high level for longer and never relied on one thing. Phil as good as he is, is doing a handful of things at a high level, Bill is a whole different beast. Bill is the answer to the question (for this era).
@@TheDodos85 yeah, he's kind of in that Gergo Borlai class of wildly aggressive and yet delicate jazz fusion players.. top notch for sure. The Phil/Bill thing has the benefit of playing on tunes people know and love- so it's hard to compare everyone apples to apples, but yea Hiseman was total class and fine choice
Unorthodox Behaviour is a cracking album. I bought it when it came out and it has been key in my collection ever since. PC's drumming on every track is just superb. I wish more folk could appreciate his talent behind the kit
Thanks for viewing and commenting. If you really want to hear Phil's Cobham-influence, try this video I posted: th-cam.com/video/pflc5TbCuBk/w-d-xo.html
Phill collins could become either one of rock/fusion’s greatest drummers or one of the most commercially and critically acclaimed pop artists of the 80s. Instead he became both.
Collins' drumming is so smooth, dynamic, and always in the pocket.
Agree -- thanks for commenting.

My God, he just does ANYTHING HE LIKES in the pocket. Incredibly gifted drummer
Totally agree!

But remains ROCK SOLID!
Phil's gotta be one of the most underrated drummers in history. Brand-X was his fusion alter ego escape. And listen to Percy killin' it!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
His success as a pop star has clouded peoples judgment in much the same way as people's opinon of George Benson.
The best fusion/rock drummer England has produced.
I never thought of it like that, but can't argue against. Phil is a not just a drummer, but, like the best drummers, a musician who plays drums.
You don’t get bad drummers in prog bands.

@@colinburroughs9871 I would mention here Jon Hiseman, he was great.

PHil proves hè is not only an Amazing Rock drummer but also Funky indeed
Incredible. Phil's playing is extremely complex but never feels showy. Very subtle with amazing ghost notes on the snare.
Agree -- thanks!
Let's just face it: Collins was a great drummer, bless him.

So dynamic! I’ve never heard any stuff from this group at all. Now I need to hear the record!
Great great fusion album, and this is one of Phil's finest moments on the drums too.
I looooooved Brand X...what a rhythm section...🙏👊👍❤
Phil fantastic drummer unic it s an extra terrest drummer❤❤❤❤😊

Phil Collins is a LEGEND
When people don’t believe me how good Phil was, this is the first song I pull out. Ultimate mic drop!

Phenomenal talent!
Hello Les. Yeah killer stuff. If I remember, this is "Nuclear Burn" from album Unorthodox Behaviour.

I don't think a lot of people know how great he really was !!!
Agree! Thanks for your comment.
He always had the jazz rudiments to him and understood how to properly play.
My number 1
Best drummer
He's underrated as a drummer -- yet he was one of the best among his contemporaries in rock and jazz..
You can hear the Mahavishnu/Cobham influence - great stuff

Have you heard his singing too?
Nuts.
I never cared much for any of the bands music. But Phil was undoubtedly a great drummer. Kudos.

Smooth pocket 🔥
Please, God...let the multitrack tapes of this album be...safely...existent...somewhere.
Insane
And to think that in the '80s they told me... "Phil Collins is not a good drummer" hahahaha (HE IS THE BEST EVER)
7&11 😎
Only proper drummers get that 😉
Sonido limpio

Snare sounds a bit like Bruford.
Tuned high and tight -- really pops and you hear his chattering ghost notes clearly.
"Not bad for a lefty" said some jerk I knew.
😩 promo sm
Wot gorrila
No….he is a great drummer..but better than say Billy Cobham…..not in the same league.
Phil is very much a huge fan of cobham. and bill said he's a great billy cobham impression (cause he's defo his inspiration)
Collins is a fine drummer, but Barrymore Barlow is the better prog drummer.
