Not code in Pennsylvania!
2 questions why use heat grade copper and should have added a nipple and ball valve at the expansion tank! Everyone knows it will get water logged eventually! One other tip support the tank with something because when it gets water logged a lot of weight there and things go snap and a flood!
I’ve been installing them like that for 5 years I change them all the time full none have ever snapped. I was taught to do it that way by a master plumber of 25 years. Before we started our business every company I worked at did it this way. Where I’m from it’s what the inspectors want. I have thought about doing it the way you just talked about but I like doing it this way since it’s the way I’ve always done it. And it passes inspection every time. I think the rules are different everywhere. I don’t have to use purple primer either. Our water heaters have to be hard piped water and gas. In some states they have to use flex because of earthquakes. So really I do it that way because of where I’m from lol
We do strap any expansion tank greater than 2.1 gallons tho.
Still doesn't explain why using "M" copper which is heat grade and thinner walled pipe!
There is nothing wrong with typ m for residential plumbing.
I feel bad for people who have CPVC water pipe in their house. Shit is just as bad as the old polybutylene grey pipe with the blue writing.
