    Probably the best overview of the G5 I've seen while looking over the past week. Thanks for explaining all of its features.

    Turn it off. Push on button and rotary knob at same time. That takes you into settings mode and you can change the kts to mph of vise versa.

      THIS. I did it on mine. You can also set v-speeds ;)

    you are incorrect that it is a certified replacement for the six pack. it is a replacement for attitude and DG but you have to leave the mechanical airspeed, altimeter, vsi and turn coordinator. you cant use it and remove the mechanical instruments.

    The enthusiasm in telling (and accent) make me think that this is Philipp Ringler from Laminar Research 🙂

    Thank You for this. I found the “how to” of the pitch setting especially helpful to correctly set mine. There’s no explanation of this in the Garmin pilot’s guide for this instrument.

    Vic, thanks for this explanation. It’s really helps. However if you’re installing a new or overhauled engine the manufacturer or engine overhaul shops say to limit ground runs to the minimum due to the need to get the cylinders broken in in flight. What are your recommendations to comply with that plus needing to set the prop and governor up?

    As a follow up to my previous comment,I noticed that in my recent installation of a G5 attitude indicator, I don’t have the menu option for adjustment of the pitch.
    Further investigation revealed that installation in a certified aircraft does not allow for that adjustment so no menu adjustment available. Perhaps you might want to check with your installer which version of G5 they installed. Your unit my not be for a certified aircraft. It is available on experimental aircraft installations.

      Some information in the video, particularly snippets from Garmin, were about the non-certified version. The airplane itself has the certified version. I thought we clarified that in the video but perhaps not well enough. Thank you for pointing it out.

    Can that take 10+Gs?

    What would this G5 set you back at? I’ve been thinking of a upgrade

      Sorry, gale. I don't have those numbers and installation cost can vary. The Garmin website will give unit pricing but you'll need to check with avionics shops about installation costs.

    What about the I L S ?

    • @OdysseyAeroClub
      @OdysseyAeroClub  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly what about the ILS, Peter? As explained fairly early in the video, "green needles" indicate a VLOC signal. That is standard across primary flight displays. The static photo used in the presentation shows a green CDI and a green diamond in the VDI. It is displaying an ILS. Switch a coupled GNS or GTN navigator CDI from GPS to VLOC and back again and the G5 will follow and the needles will change color..

    your v-speeds set into your g5 are for mph, but the g5 is using knots. For example it's showing best glide at 80.........which is correct in MPH. 80 in knots is wrong and is what is indicated. Same with your VY. :)

      What I can’t get is change pitch option. I heard that might be on experimental version. Can you change pitch setting on yours?

    • @BrettMcNary
      @BrettMcNary 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@muhammadsteinberg I haven't tried so not sure. Do you mean like a bug for 3 degrees, 7 degrees nose up pitch bug etc? Or pitch offset?

    • @muhammadsteinberg
      @muhammadsteinberg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrettMcNary Yes... I seen a vid on TH-cam where someone was making pitch adjustments. I haven't been able to find vid again but gentleman was able to adjust pitch.

      That's looking for detail! 👌 In this case, the photos are not of the actual unit in the airplane so the numbers are not really those of a 182. The video was intended to be more about layout, flow, and function than reflecting the actual installation. In the actual installation, the G5 is calibrated in KIAS, with the appropriate numbers.

      Clearly your installer did not follow the manual in setting up your G5. The level issue is specific in installation, as well as selecting mph or knots and much more. I’d suggest getting ahold of the installation manual and reviewing the setup procedure.

    It is a stupid habit of the Americans to indicate in mph and the French to use kmh
