I cannot listen to this gorgeous, gorgeous song without tears slipping from my eyes. Sting wrote a masterpiece, and Eva sang it like an angel.
I wish she was still here with us.

Written by Sting. When he heard Eva's rendition he said he may never be able to sing it again, because her version was so beautiful.

My thoughts exactly... when i heard it the first time.... tears flow each time.... and wanted to see him saying about this, but I found only quotes by a 3rd 4th person. Then every next song I heard from her I thought wow this is way beyond the original it's like a transcendental version of it, sung from space. Only later I got to know she passed and found it so... odd and sad and thankful that this was recorded.

And her singing caused Sting to cry. He said no one's singing had done that.

The lead guitar part in "Fields of Gold" was played by Keith Grimes, and Eva played rhythm via finger picking her Guild Songbird acoustic guitar throughout the song. Keith came in on a Gibson ES 335 electric guitar and played the lead part with fills and volume swells thereafter, and as you can hear, it was a masterful performance.
Grimes told the story about the day Eva brought over a batch of songs to his house so they could collaborate on some duets. He said when Eva played "Fields of Gold" he was so overwhelmed tears rolled down his cheeks.
Can you imagine the chance to sit and listen to songs played and sung by the world's greatest vocalist/musician at your dining room table?
Grimes was the perfect guitar player for Eva's band. Like Eva, he could play any style of music, especially Jazz. His leads were always flawless and classy and never over-shadowed Eva or the band.

Sting said this is how the song sounded in his head when he wrote it! He also said he wouldn't sing it live anymore… Now that's some praise!

We have to get her a Grammy - posthumously. Sting, are you out there ????

    • @saltrockshakers4205

I've lobbied online for Eva to receive a Grammy for (Songbird & several others), a CMA Award for (Tennessee Waltz), Jazz or Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for (San Francisco Bay Blues), Dove Award for (How Can I Keep From Singing) something, my God!!! And I've come to the conclusion the music industry is still trying to categorize Eva Cassidy. It seems simple enough to me for them (the Grammy powers that be) to create a "Multi-Genre Artist Award" and let Eva be the first to receive it posthumously. All of today's greatest singers know Eva is the Holy Grail of Vocalist. Even Adele said she used to rush home from school to listen to Eva Cassidy. It's time, people!!!

This is the first song I heard from her, and you expressed everything I felt. I had to ask the barista who was singing, and she went to find out for me, and gave me the gift of Eva's name. I'm forever grateful for that moment.

Absolutely outstanding cover of Stings song from a really great missed artist, Eva Cassidy a American singer and guitarist known for her emotive Soprano voice, a blues/ folk/ jazz musician,Eva passed away from Melanoma aged 33 in late 1996, Eva was very shy and self critical, she was reluctant to appear in front of an audience, it’s so sad we lost an amazing vocalist and guitarist, great reaction thanks 🙏

Eva Cassidy has been one of my favorite artists for many years and I have all of her cd’s. Fields of Gold is one of my favorites and I never get tired of listening to it (or anything else by her).
FYI -Eva died from Melanoma skin cancer not breast cancer.

Thanks Sarah. Great reaction. Sting was very proprietary about this particular song. He didn't like others covering it. Until he heard Eva' cover. It brought him to tears. He said this is precisely what I envisioned when I wrote this. I am 68 years old and have heard and seen countless great acts. No one impacts me emotionally like Eva. She grabs my soul.
Sarah, I highly recommend watching the Nightline special about Eva's life. It really is must see TV. It is emotional. I cry every time I watch it. But it really helps understand who she was. A beautiful soul with an angelic voice. Be warned. Grab your Kleenex. I'll post a link.

This song has been quite auspicious for me today. I had thought about this about an hour before my hubby joined me on the deck. He sat down and played this on the tablet without any prompting. I have listened to this a thousand times because I love Eva. Sings and plays like an angel. It was amazing watching your reaction video because that is exactly how I listen to it and I'm sure I have similar looks on my face. She easily brings tears out of me many times during this song. It feels like her voice is literally pulling at my soul. An angel in heaven. At 72 years old now, I may be hearing her sooner than later in person! As another song of hers says, Wade in the Water! Can't wait to watch some of your other reaction videos. You allowed your face to be the line by line critique of this song while it was playing. No words ever need to be spoken when listening to it. I absolutely loved your critique after the music. God surely blessed you! 🤗

My sister Kathy introduced me to Eva Cassidy with Somewhere Over the Rainbow, growing up with Wizard of Oz this song has always touched my heart, but Eva sings it like no other person can, when she sings it it’s like watching a grand slam at a ball game.
