The guest spots:
2. Late Night, October 25, 1990.
3. Late Show, August 15, 1994.

RIP Alex. You are like family to my family. Such fond memories of my childhood involve you brother. You are what we could all aspire to be like. You did it man, you won life. You inspired us all and took care of your family, and did it all with class. Rest now brother, we love you.
Charles, those are beautiful words indeed !
@@doloresvega4420 "beautiful words" or more or less ordinary, words - "indeed", transmitting or representative of 'beautiful' sentiments ?
Two Geniuses that I will never get tired of watching,Dave and Alex❤️
Miss Alex already. Great mind, great human, great soul.
Rest in peace, Alex. You lived a good, full life, and it was time for you to go... although all the lives you have touched will miss you terribly. There will never be another like you... Jeopardy will never be the same again.
Alex was such a Handsome Man. RIP - Alex
He sure was.
Alex was tremendous as host of Jeopardy, he was so natural no pretense.
The host of Jeopardy before him was Art Fleming, and he also had a lot of class and a great voice.
Sorry to see him gone. I was born in Ontario in 1952 and remember him well on CBC. Watched Reach for the Top regularly. Alex was always a class act.
I'm from Northern Ontario, and we lost one of our own when Alex passed. We've had so few stars from this region; Alex Trebek, Shania Twain, Alan Thicke and Corey Marks are the biggest stars from our region. RIP Northern Ontario's own, Alex Trebek!
And a load of hockey players. I am also from northern Ontario.
I'm from Kitchener, but I love northern Ontario, even if it is more like central Ontario. lol 🇨🇦
This is so great. We used some of his 90's Letterman interview for our recent Trebek story. Great little compilation you have here!
Trebek reading those rejected categories was hilarious - the way he delivered them made it priceless, hahaha
I love how quick you are to put together these compilations when they're relevant. Thank you, Donz.
Something about Alex dancing to Yakety Sax is really heart warming.
Thanks Don...very much appreciated. 👍🏻
Hard to believe this was 25 years ago! Alex we miss you and Dave we miss your show!
#ripalextrebek you were my childhood I love watching you with with my mom and dad we would answer the question with the contestants I'm a big fan you are amazing and awesome person you will be sadly missed.😭🙏
Alex Trebek will forever be the longest running host of J!, but to me, he'll be known as the host of High Rollers & Classic Concentration
Fact: Alex has hosted 2 of the most successful revivals on television
JEOPARDY! for syndication and Classic Concentration on NBC Daytime and both shows were originally born at the NBC Studios New York City which was the home to Late Night with David Letterman, Saturday Night LIVE and The Original Price is Right with the late Bill Cullen
J! was at Hollywood Center Studios Hollywood, CA and now SONY Pictures Studios Culver City, CA and Classic Concentration was Videotaped at NBC Studios Burbank, CA the birthplace of High Rollers, The Original Hollywood Squares and of course, Wheel of Fortune which was born in '75 and is still on the air today
God Bless You Alex Trebek, R.I.P. Quizmaster
Thanks for this, Don.
Alex was a great success but apparently never let it go to his head. Eminently fair and kind to everyone it surely seems he was a terrific gentleman. Canada has produced so many it seems in this mold.
Happy 80 to Alex Trebek
God Bless You and Keep on Fighting
High Rollers, JEOPARDY! and Classic Concentration are my favorites
He seemed like such a perfect gentleman. RIP.
Alex was one of a kind, and will be missed for a long time.
The Jeopardy! Book is brilliant. I still have my copy.
Were they talkin about buster douglas vs mike tyson at 5:05? One of the biggest upsets in sports history, kids
No the subsequent fight, Holyfield def. Douglas
Born in Canada in 1952 and remember Reach For The Top with Alex. He was always a bright, well-spoken guy.
1940
Alex was a true gentleman!
I am not drooling here over Alex Trebek or anything..I simply express admiration for the man and what he seems to be. I never realized how incredibly handsome Alex Trebek was as a younger man...as well as witty, intelligent, articulate, refined. What a guy, what a personality!🔥😍 What a winning and fiery combination, all brewing in one person! I am left starstruck and breathless!🔥😍
As a kid, I started watching "Jeopardy"!, and it has become one of my favorite game shows and it still is to this day! My thoughts and prayers are with Alex Trebek and his family. We're all rooting for you, Alex! You will fight and defeat that ailment! You got this!
👊💪💯💯
Alex is one of the nicest guys in TV history
Canadians don't get enough credit for how good looking, clean cut, well speaking, smart, humble and nice they are.
I seen most of them wearing tattoos all over their body. Some of them are not that nice.
@@cost7569 Is that what you "seen", little fella? How many generations, or should I say months, were these people "Canadian"?
Alex Trebek also appeared on “Ellen” in 2008 after recovering from his heart attack.
16:30 Every morning radio host had this happen. I have been good for one of these every year since 1978.
A real class act
Alex was an exemplary ambassador for Canada.
you’re all heart. thanks for this and.....
which Canadian gameshow host needs all our positive energy now ( in the form of a question please )
Who is Alex Trebek?
🙏❤
we
"Excuse me, too much soda"
*Uproarious laughter*
Funny when they talked about High Rollers, one of the three game shows NBC cancelled for Dave's morning show back in 1980.
This made me miss two things
1, obviously, Alex
2. When late night was good
1990: "We've never been able to beat Wheel of Fortune for 7 years!"
1994: "For the past ten years he's hosted the *granddaddy* of them all, Alex Trebek!"
That happened fast
This dude never aged, he’s 50 in this video??
Rest in Peace Alex🙏
Double Dare was tough...seems prophetic.
Well according to Alex the show was too cerebral for the audience
Love the Top 10 rejected Jeopardy! categories. Especially, "Canadian Sex Secrets" followed by "Things That Throb". Oh how apropos.
A legend
I love you Alex
I knew Alex was from Sudbury but I didn't know that Paul was from Thunder Bay. So you're on David Letterman with your band the other daaaayyyyy...
Also, that Top Ten list was on my 16th birthday
Between 1978-1979,Wheel and Jeopardy were both on NBC daytime.
Great Canadian...RIP sir!
Alex Trebek and Paul Shaffer are both from Northern Ontario!
His voice was like helium.. lighter and smoother :)
He was younger.
14:41 I would pay to see someone dig up that old GMA episode
20:50 showed up as a category on January 23, 2008.
RIP Alex Trebek.
Much thanks to Mr. Trebeck!!! You made me want to be educated. I know you have a job in heaven! He was the wise man with gold! Thanks Letterman for letting me stay up past my bedtime! (Joe Dumars was the executive for the Detroit Pistons.)
I wonder if Alex watched the Jack Narz or Hugh Downs versions before taking the stage as new Concentration host.
I almost feel bad for laughing at the bit about the forensic pathologist, but then I think Alex might be laughing at it now, too. He did have something of a barbed sense of humor. RIP to him Merv. God bless
RIP to a great Canadian
Well Alex was the badass with the mustache and that bomber jacket back in the day. And 9:57 nyahahahahaha nice swipe there Alex!
Sick reharm of the jeopardy theme on the second appearance...
A class act... R.I.P
Anyone else notice how Letterman correctly predicted a Buster Douglas upset?
I thought so too but this was not the Tyson fight, the 2nd Trebek appearance was 8 months after the upset. Dave bet on Douglas to defeat Holyfield, which he did not.
He is so handsome
that second one was on my birthday!
@6:30, David Letterman was still on NBC in 1990?
His final Late Night was on June 25, 1993.
Dave must have forgotten about "Time for Tony."
RIP Alex. You are like family to my family. Such fond memories of my childhood involve you brother. You are what we could all aspire to be like. You did it man, you won life. You inspired us all and took care of your family, and did it all with class. Rest now brother, we love you.
Dave got some good jabs in lol
I loved Pitfall although it was a victim of a production company bankruptcy.
Shoutout to the Calgary Stampede! Yahoo!
If only you weren't all right wing science deniers. 🇨🇦
Paul & Alex, a couple of "hosers", eh? 🙂 Grab some beers & back-bacon! MAGIC!!🙂
That was great. Thanks Don.
9:57 - Alex Tre-BURRRRRNNNNN
For $800: _For 30 years, he has been beloved, ageless and holding the same job as host on network television..._
Who is Alex Trebek?
Nice Roots jacket Alex.
He's not dead yet Donz.
All the more reason to share his appearances.
+Don Giller That is so true. You're such a swell guy, Donz. I wish you would pull back the curtain and tell us all about yourself. Your adoring public wants and needs to know! : )
No, it doesn’t. :)
+Don Giller That's true I guess. I was just trying to bring you up a bit. I heard your spirits were down because of all the cold weather. Feel better, buddy. : )
RIP Alex. 😟
RIP THE GOAT!
I find life lonelier without Alex in it
Who ended up winning whatever game they were talking about?
Rest in peace Alex Trebek
Rip ALEX
Rest in peace
30 years later...
The first segment , they were talking about WoF, or was that the joke?
He forgot to mention pitfall
Art Fleming hosted Jeopardy before Alex and the announcer was Don Pardo?
Indeed.
And Weird Al's song parody "I Lost On Jeopardy" is actually about that original version of the show, not the Alex Trebek remake. Fleming and Pardo are mentioned by name and Don even does a voiceover on it.
Doesn't mention pitfall😁
Mark Jones Maybe because that was the only show he wasn't paid for due to the production company going bankrupt.
@@georgemaster9271 yep, just thought he'd mention it
@@markjones1184Maybe he did ,and I didn't hear it.I loved Pitfall.
Damn Trebek was fine as hell
5:11 David, you probably ruined Mike Tyson with that bet...
Wrong fight, this was Douglas v Holyfield. (Perhaps he ruined Douglas but Evander may have had more say in that.)
RIP Alex Trebek
$10 on Buster to win???? Was that the Tyson fight where Buster Douglas kicked his ass??
Nah, this was October, it was Holyfield winning the title over Douglas.
(today I learned that fight was on a Thursday night)
Alex smacked him
in the face jeez
Did he?
the first clip would have been from 1987 since they said "Concentration is new on NBC"
As detailed in the description.
16:36 The 'what' is hilariously terse.
Didn’t they do Top Ten Rejected _Jeopardy!_ Categories one other time?
July 13, 1988, during the writers’ strike. All entries written by Dave.
They also did "Rude Jeopardy!" in response to a letter asking "Who the hell is Bob Pook?"
February 14, 1992.
That WAS a stupid part on Concentration. My eyes rolled during that part.
Funny they were talking about the Tyson Vs Buster Douglas fight! Buster wom that one! LOL
Wrong fight
RIP
He's such a babe
HOT-TIE!
🤟
Canadian Sex Secrets LOL!!!!!
The reverse beaver tail.
This is his orginal look growing up
