      the G2 is the worst pcvr headset of all time, doesn't work right with anything, especially with AMD x570 motherboards, the newer updated cable didn't fix anything either, Windows Mixed Reality is useless and interferes with Steam vr games, a couple of hours of battery life on the G2 controllers, and you have to replace the batteries, 2 batteries per controller, blue lines at the edges of the fov or display in certain Steam vr games, tracking is never right and always off, I am never buying another Windows Mixed Reality vr headset ever again, right now the headset is sitting in my closet after I barely used the thing because I could never get the damn thing to work right, the G2 is the biggest piece of junk of a vr headset that I ever bought

    Nice updated info. At this point, I still can't believe that VALVe hasn't made an Index Gen 2 or better. I waited too long to get one, so I haven't, because HMD's iterate so quickly, but year after year keeps passing with no new HMD. I'm still using Rift-S for PCVR and Quest 2 for stand-alone. I'm waiting for a whole new Valve HMD and then I will build a new pc and get Full-Body Tracking. Good thing is, prices will continue to drop as tech iterates.

    • @mrsittingmongoose
      @mrsittingmongoose 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are rumors that their next headset will be a standalone like the quest is. So I imagine that will be the “index 2” at least in spirit. Except it in 2023-2024.

    • @VRGalaxy_762
      @VRGalaxy_762 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mrsittingmongoose Yeah, I know about that, but I'd rather have a full-PCVR, true next-gen HMD. It's not too far off-base to guess that they'll use the existing Steam Deck hardware as a footprint for that and just downsize it to fit a stand-alone HMD. I would largely guess that the Steam Deck itself is really just more or less a beta test for that tech as they design that HMD in the background. It's less about the power of handheld PC gaming and more of a proof of concept.

    With my Lenovo Explorer I was using the Kinect 2.0 to help with the tracking and to be able to kick things. With software like Driver4VR, you can use the Kinect 2.0 for full body tracking on your PC. I don't think that it directly tracks the controllers but it knows where your hands are. So it does help.

    I dislike HP and their distributors for refusing to make use of the "V2" name, or anything else to distinguish the two versions.
    Nobody wants to spend a lot of money on the V1. And there's no valid reason for making people need to ask around at every retailer whether the one they sell is the V1 or V2. Name changes on version updates is done for a reason, and HP is refusing. I guess they want ignorant customers to "accidentally" end up buying V1's.

    I don’t know HOW people can compare it to things like the quest. It is like comparing a Honda to a Ferrari. The reverb hands down blows it away. And it’s honestly like…. $100 more expensive.

    • @McPlot28
      @McPlot28 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I almost got a Quest 2 as an upgrade to my Lenovo Explorer. Then the HP Reverb G2 v2 went on sale for $399 and I was able to get 10% cash back through my credit card. So $360 for me. With the $100 price hike of the Quest 2 I was looking at $400 for the base unit then another $79 for the link cable to be able to play my many SteamVR games. Then the link cable does not provide power to the headset so I would be limited to 2 hours of game play before having to recharge the headset and I need more than 2 hours. Or add to the overall cost by buying an external battery pack. So it would be $500 plus for the Quest and $360 for the HP G2. The only advantage the Quest 2 has is that a PC is not required.

I noticed there is a removeable spacer on the V2, does V1 also have the removeable spacer? Also, I'm wondering if one would be able to tell by looking at the unit serial number; if the manufacturer would let the public know where the change occurred in the serial number sequence, it might prove helpful. Not that I know anything about the subject, I'm an old 69 and just getting into flight simming; presently gathering components for a computer build. Case is a Thorzone Mjolnir in Stealth color, mobo is a Gigabyte X570SI Aorus Pro AX. So far, those are the only components I have. I really like your videos, very clear presentation. It is important to mention for people with AMD systems that are experiencing connectivity issues using the reverb G2 v1. You can get a free V2 cable replacement when contacting customer support.

    I have the OG complete valve index set, and just purchased a G2 V2 from a guy used 400. I really love the sweat spot, not feeling the need to adjust all the time. Resolution is much nicer than the Index. I think the god rays on the Index annoyed me the most. I'm going to use my index controllers with it. I really am enjoying it. Fov definitely could be better, not a show stopper but hey it's what I can do at the moment. I wear contacts and removed the spacer to get the best. I'm just happy it's so clear! I like to spend hours in so it really matters.

      going from an index to a g2v2, what do you miss the most? (dont say anything about controllers cuz I'm getting them too)
      also
      If you get base stations, will they track the headset too or just the controllers?

  • @pixelfairy
    @pixelfairy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    To really solve blind spots without light house tracking, controllers need their own inside out tracking. Though I don't know how HP missed the front of the headset twice!

    • @heehee63
      @heehee63 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The quest 2s tracking is pretty damn good. Perfect, no. But i play contractors all the time and it doesnt have the problems shown in this video fro the reverb g2

    • @pixelfairy
      @pixelfairy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heehee63 The quest2 proved that good inside out tracking is possible, so I don't know what MSs problem is (hp has to depend on WMR for its tracking). But I was talking about blind spots. Q2 controllers need line of sight.
      Fix that and inside out tracking can has all the advantages of base station without the setup of base stations. Full range of controller motion, body tracking, even props if your using it for animation.

    My only gripe with this headset is the tracking using light (consume unnecessarily a lot of energy and space with those big ring badly positioned) .. I guess it's for using cheap cameras to optimize the price

      @@JorgTheElder yes, with infrared they could have emitted a smaller amount of light and compensated with good infrared cameras.

    more like the worst pcvr headset of all time, it doesn't work without a external powered usb 3.0 hub for AMD x570 motherboards, and at times the G2 disconnects often, the newer version 2 cable didn't fix anything either, the G2 was the biggest pain in the butt of a pcvr headset to set up and trying to get it to work right, which it never did, the version 2 cable didn't do crap to fix any issues with AMD x570 motherboards, the G2 is the biggest failure of a pcvr headset that was ever released, HP should get out of the vr department, this headset is garbage
