This was the last Reno Air Races held in Nevada. It was supposed to be a good bid farewell, but pilots Nick Macy and Chris Rushing died in a mid-air collision. This tragic occurrence prompted the event to end prematurely.
Accidents and death here are no different than auto racing, boat racing and many other sporting activities that are not even racing. They are part of the mix. Participation is not mandatory or forced.
They are coming to Roswell New Mexico in 2025! Its not over completely, but im sure it wont be the same as it once was in Reno. I live 90 minutes away and will be there, God willing. Anytime i get a rare and wonderful opportunity to see and hear the greatest generations' airborne creations come to life, I am in awe and appreciation of their ingenuity and skill. Those souls may no longer be with us physically, but their amazing legacy remains. KROW is actually an international airport that hosts a boneyard and a great fbo. Elvis Presley's private jet used to call KROW its home and i was given a tour. I have landed there a few times and have been met with nothing but hospitality and kindness. I have sheltered there until storms cleared my home field a few times and can tell you that the big beautiful v shaped runway has been a welcome sight to a storm weary pilot flying on fumes. God bless those whom have lost their lives this year and those years before. I cannot wait to see how this plays out here in New Mexico. I have an RV hookup here in Portales that will be free to anyone attending the race that is interested (During the posted race schedule only.)
Roswell, New Mexico! 👍😁Yes, I know about it too. I got their email. I can only imagine how much more famous Roswell will get, you know, with their UFOs. You're lucky you live close to it. I will have to fly over there and rent a car. More expensive for me. I got used to just driving from CA to Reno, NV and spending time in Lake Tahoe along the way. Anyways, glad the air races is still alive even though it's an inherently dangerous sport for both pilots and spectators.
It's normal to feel sympathy to the lost lives and their families... But we can't just shut down life because tragic events happen from time to time. Life can be dangerous, you learn to accept and deal with it. You don't rubber room life. You learn from tragedies and try to limit it happening again. Humans are imperfect, you, we all do the things to try to mitigate potential tragedy, but we also live life. The pilots here all chose and choose to do this racing, they accept the possibility of a crash, why stop them in future from continuing to freely do such racing if they want to do it? We can't govern our lives on pure emotions. We use commonsense and take acceptable risks in life.🤔
@@frankdamato8405 Three location are under consideration to host the Reno Races again. They are Casper, Wyoming, Pueblo, Colorado, and Roswell, New Mexico.
Important research into how fast how low and how these wonderfull aircraft got through the air was gleened , very sad for the families but research and doing stuff that you love !
No one is going to spend two million on an antique warbird, then spend a half million to modify it to win a few bucks in an air race. Those days are GONE forever.
@@kenprice1961 ...So you got my point, calling the event in Roswell "races" is a lie. The owners of these stock warbirds aren''t going to risk damaging their precious aircraft and I don't blame them. But come on organizers be honest...call it an air show.
All WW2 aircraft should have airworthiness revoked and they should be repainted and put into museums where belong. for future flight many years from now so that future generations that no longer understand will be able to appreciate these great machines down the road.
I cautiously agree with this view, sad as I am to say it. While planes were made to fly, every year there are a few less P-51s (for example) left flying. Someday they will all be in museums anyway. The Texas crash was the tell. I am glad that pile of wreckage did not go down in someone's neighborhood.

I heard that Roswell was only one of the places being considered, along with Casper Wyoming and a few others, has it been decided?
@@Grossman2868yes it has. I’m from Roswell and it starts next summer.
@@commanderstud2417 hey great to hear, I couldn't believe that that was the end of air racing.
Roswell?! You know the aliens are going to win the unlimited class.
Roswell? Yaaaaaawwwwnnnn.
Its a Choice...
Those are the risks...
Same as Driving to work..
I would get in that Airplane Because they are All Trained and Sane Dudes..
Its My Choice..

450mph? I need that jet car when traveling on the 5.
🤣
I am not rich and I do 500+ in jets…. Crazy people don’t race..sane people race. You cannot be an idiot on a race course….
Unless you flew the Galloping Ghost with an original equipment, 65 year old, self-locking nut and bolt on your trim tab.
I’m not so sure it’s done check the schedule they have it listed again for this year
I only see an upcoming air show for October 4 -6 of this year.
@@skatetoexplorevideos2477 ohh the nvm it just got changed to the airshow it was originally listed as air races too
They're having air show but no racing, it's my understanding 2024 is the last show, kinda a fond farewell to an era..

Roswell New Mexico Air "races" more like a air show of stock warbirds doing parade laps..."Unlimited" Air Races are gone forever.

Get seasoned flight bosses.
Rich old guys in antique airplanes doing 500 miles an hour in formation close to the ground… I wonder what could happen👀
Haha, you're right. I never thought of it that way.
They weren’t going 500 mpg bozo and they weren’t racing, the race was over, they were landing when they hit each other.
Just another loser socialist who should be living in another country where freedom and the ability to spout off nonsense do not exist.
Go rain on some other parade.
Rich? Most of them worked their guts out their whole lives, and lived like Spartans so they could fly.

Planes were made to fly. Not sit
Glad you don't have any say in the aircraft world. The tyrant in you should not be allowed to control matchbox cars for kids.
