24 HOURS in DOMODOSSOLA! 🇮🇹 (The CUTEST Italian town!)

  • We crossed the Italian border into a small town named Domodossola! It's an extremely small city that is definitely not touristic - there are no guides and few recommendations on what to do, but we made a day of it and found it to be a wonderful and charming town in the Piedmont region! We only had a few hours in town, so we're going to show you everything we found in this little known city! Charming neighborhood streets, beautiful and historic churches, calm piazzas, and an amazing restaurant we just bumbled into!

    Hi guys, thanks for your visit.
    I live not very far from Domodossola.
    You should know that everyone in Italy knows Domodossola, because when spelling words, the letter D is used to say "D di Domodossola".
    It is the reference town for all the Alpine valleys that surround it, as well as home to an international railway station on the Simplon line, for the Milan-Geneva connection and the Domodossola-Locarno connection with the suggestive Vigezzina railway line.
    Domodossola in 1945 was awarded the gold medal for military valor for having risen against the fascist and Nazi occupation, freeing its territory from invaders and founding the Republic of Ossola, which had life from 10 September 1944 to 23 October 1944 , before returning to liberated Italy.
    the Sacro Monte Calvario, which you have visited, is a very suggestive and important place, and has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this place the Blessed Antonio Rosmini founded in 1828 his religious order, the Institute of Charity.
    ...and last, but not the least... No more cappuccino after 10.00 a.m.

      We were so happy to spend a day there, wish we could have spent longer!
      That's pretty cool haha! I guess it makes sense to know your own country.. can't say we had ever heard of Domodossola prior to our visit!
      I think we had read a bit of that history right before going.. just wasn't sure when to mention it in the video. Does Domodossola have any museums or anything? Or maybe a nearby town with more history on it? Would have loved to found more.. there was not much to read about it online (in English).
      What about for coffee addicts?? hahaha.

    The shape of the roofs is not influenced by German style, but, for the proximity of the Alps, by the need to avoid the snow to rest on the roof too long and cause damages to the houses with its weight.

      Hi! I’m that area we have been to Domodossola, Turin, Lake Como, Milan, and Venice.
      Reaching further we’ve done Rome, Florence, and parts of Switzerland (Zermatt and the Jungfrau region).
      So I can only speak for those areas. Where you chose and ALL of the places we visited were lovely. I guess it depends on where you’d like to go? I’d be happy to give any tips or info if you need it! :)

      @@IfWeGoTo first of all thanks for the interest and the explanatory video. as far as I understood Domodossola is for some hours until lunch for example. I come from Bern and I will have a day ticket to Domodossola and return. I would like to explore some nearby regions after visiting Domodossola and before returning to Bern at night!

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Anytime!! So you’re saying you want to go Bern -> Domodossola -> Bern all in one day? I think if that is the case, I would only do Domodossola so that you do not have to rush! I believe the train from Bern takes nearly 2 hours each way! While easy, it doesn’t leave a lot of time to see much else!

    Hey guys, thanks for sharing your impressions on this cozy place. If you've visited also Lago di Como, I´d like to know your opinion, which one is more interesting (in case I don´t have time enough to go to both, in my next travel) ?

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  ปีที่แล้ว

      We have been to Como! :) I think it depends on what you're looking for! If you're doing more of a one-time or a short visit to Italy I would probably recommend Como! We loved Domodossola & it had no tourists at all, and it's super small - which made it incredibly charming, but there also isn't much to it! Como is more tourist-oriented, has the lake, ferries to other small villages/towns around the lake (like Bellagio, Varenna, Lugano, etc etc!). I think Como is also more well-connected and you can easily reach Milan, Venice, & the Dolomites, while Domodossola was a connecting location for us between Interlaken (Switzerland) and Turin!
