Really cool video there mate. I've dreamed of having a Unimog ever since I was a teenager. Back then i was helping to build a sanctuary in south korea and since it was located in remote mountains without offical road or bridge leading to it we had to transport building materials and supplies with a Unimog from 1980's. I was pretty good with driving large vehicles becouse my dad taught me how to drive trucks and buses since i was barely able to touch the pedals, so when I told about this to the the guys at the sanctuary they gave me a shot and the tought me how to drive a Unimog to be more help relieve the one truck driver they had around, and i gotta say it was a love at first sight, I climbed into the cabin and i was instantly hooked, like mad love hooked to this truck. Anyway I got carried away, what I wanted to say is, keep uploading these great videos mate you're really fueling up my dream to save every penny and finally get one of those magnificent beasts one day. Memories of the Unimogs in Germany in the late 1960s. The farmers there loved them because they were able to take a plough for tilling the fields. One vehicle to substitute for a car + a truck + a tractor. I don't know if the newer models were still able to take the plough attachment.
Locked gates are defiantly not cool! I was born and raised in California, feels like the entire State is a "locked gate" I moved to Nevada where there is more of an unlocked mentality if there is such a thing. Lots to explore. I really love your Mog! Buying the Mog and setting off in the direction of the adventure is brilliant. Thank. you for the excellent entertainment and some education as well. Be safe..
There are only two reasons Unimogs get stuck: 1) Lack of ground/track appreciation 2) Lack of momentum Know what you are driving through. It isn't just water. How deep? What's the material at the bottom of the puddle? how compacted is the bottom material? Momemtum =/= speed! By the same token, none of those water obstacles should have been been tackled in first/second gear unless the intention was to get stuck.
You should keep everyone back as far as the length of the snatch strap In some of those recoveries there were people standing in very dangerous positions One of my friends lost her thumb last week completely when it was knocked off her hand by a broken snatch strap on Cape York

Hey -i was following the auctions but missed the final prices for the U1700’S THAT WERE SOLD. They block anyone who didnt bid from seeing the results. Can you suggest the range of prices that the trucks - NSW ideally. I intend to bid in the middle of the year but need to understand what to expect
@@PatrickHabermann many thanks - I see that the bulk are sold in Thanooga which is a suburb of Albury on the Victorian border - I can get a permit to drive in Victoria - maybe just roll the dice and race the NSW police to the border (In my younger days this used to be a thing that happened a lot to avoid a speeding ticket - these days NSW police can book you in Victoria and Vica versa - and in an ex ADF mopg I doubt you can out run a dominos delivery driver let alone the police. I'll make a point of viewing them - they are only 3 hrs from Melbourne.

Talk to Ben Nash at Mog Central or Dan Mavin at Unidan for those Hutchinsons and Michelins. Biggest favour you can do for your Mog. Next should be working group gears. Sooooo good in the rough stuff. Slows your truck down and you have 8 speeds below about 2nd gear. So effectively you have a low range gear box. You still of course have all your normal gears. The Ex Army tyres are truly awful. May as well have cheese cutters on.
Hey Thabo, good to see you again. I just bought 5 hutchinsons from eBay for less than $5k USD incl shipping. Still have to add the cost of wheelstuds etc. I think you guys have new laws coming in tho preventing the use of old tyres?
@@coqulation If you can, go for remote controlled ones, I constantly have to get out, walk to the other side, adjust, come back to check, go adjust again, it never ends.
Cool trucks but really bad off road. You just can’t get momentum. Once stuck, you’re gone. Give me a well setup patrol or similar any day. Even a Iveco would be better

You need to learn how to drive that truck, every mud hole you came to you got stuck yet the truck in front of you did not. I have watched tons of Unimog videos and they are almost unstoppable. Are you using 2WD? You do know there's low range. Doesn't yours have diff locks? One video about gearing in a Unimog had the thing travelling 245 feet PER HOUR! You spin the wheels and break traction, that's a good way to get stuck. Seems to me you have no clue how to drive off road or the capabilities of a Unimog. I have a lot of off road experience over the decades with my 1973 Land Rover 88 and it is not half the truck a Unimog is and it seems to me I could have driven through those mud puddles. Seriously, learn about the truck and how to use it. Yeah, get better tires too.
I have no idea why you colonials run racing slicks on your Mogs...??? Try some Agri Chevrons and just roll through that mud without stopping and playing with ropes and winches.

Hi Paul, I‘d say you can expect between 14 and 26.If you can you should inspect them, because the better ones sometimes actually sell for less.

The Unimog at 3:00 got through the waterhole without any problems, the second one gave full throttle and got stuck.

Just the tyres that came with the truck.Sorry, I cannot recall the exact size(tyre sizes are a bit of a mystery to me)
…maybe lower the tire pressure and proper tyre would have helped 😄
I didnt know unimogs were as tempermental in deep mud. The first one seemed to always get thru tho. Maybe it had better tires.
The second Unimog gave full throttle and got stuck, maybe this could be te problem.
It's all about the tyres.

I have not done a calculation but the rated economy is 22 to 25L per 100km. I now have bigger tyres so around the 90km/h.

Yes, they have a 10 years expiry date, some of my tyres are getting close

I say again...fools on racing slicks should not try to play in the mud.......get some real tyres.....I run Michelin chevrons on my U1300L
