If you're looking at a heater from a metre away, does it hurt you? The heat is basically infrared waves. An IR blaster in the phone that recognises you, is barely 1/10000th the size of your home heater. Simple answer, it's not a laser, just infrared waves, it won't hurt you. For experience, I've been using the iris scanner of Samsung s9 for 3 years now. Never have I faced the slightest sense of discomfort.

@@JC-wi5wn ok let's just say i am 13yold and i got an iris scan then 10 years later i get a lasik surgery, will that affect the iris scan i did before?
I am still using Iris over fingerprint for my work phone. It is unbelievably accurate and fast

George Orwell would have a field day with this.
Samsung is recreating Minority Report

Me
I am still using Iris in 2022. On my note 9 work phone. It is unbelievably quick and accurate
@@youandiryanits not quick at all. You have to be looking at it from the right distance and the phone needs to be straight in front of you.
Oh the irony
This tech became ded when the S10 launched in 2019 (on Smartphones)
fire your marketing team, you are insane if you think people are going to sit through a 4min ad on a 8min video

What about contact lenses?
You remove contacts because it can mess up the iris scanner
