- In the last few years of Yu-Gi-Oh there's always been one annoying deck stealing events out of nowhere, a rogue deck nobody ever expected to do well. Rikka Sunavalon. This deck has taken up a lot of my Yu-Gi-Oh life for the last 2 years and I thought it'd be cool to tell the deckbuilding story of a super successful deck from an insiders perspective featuring Marcus Patel, Alex Robertson, Thomas Rose, Jessica Robinson and more!

I took this deck to my first regional right before the banlist was able to place top 4. I’m sad it got hit but excited for the new support. I’m gonna keep trying to make it work. Thank you for introducing me to one of my favourite decks I’ve played!
Sunavalon Rikka can still conquer Europe in the right hands. I love plants and i'll still play them even if they decide to hit them more. I actually built a 50 card decklist (pre PHNI) and so far i had good results and lots of fun. I'm still sorry that i bothered you during YCS Bologna, my spoken english is really bad because i tend to be too shy and i didn't want to force you to play a mirror with me 😢 even though i'm no big deal, i really wanted to play that mirror to test my skills against the Sunavalon Rikka EU Champion of 2023 ❤😊 looking forward to see more content about plants in YT and maybe another chance to see you in person.
As someone who relearned Yu-Gi-Oh (in its modern form) via Duel Links by using F2P Aromages, Plants have always been near and dear to my heart. The Rikka Sunavalon deck was a very important deck for me in MD and one of the few (alongside Tear) which I instantly rejoice every time I pick it up one more time. Thank you Jess for all the hard work that Plant gang walked so that all Plant enjoyers could have a Meta/Rogue strategy to go into o/
Thank you for sharing how it all happened. My first exposure to Rikka was in master duel's solo chapter, and I was intrigued by them and their mechanics.
I'm far from being able to pilot the deck well, but I've been practising with a casual aroma rikka deck. It's so easy to misplay, that's probably another reason why it hasn't been seen as much in other regions.
Plants were my first ever big combo deck so it will forever have a special place in my heart. Thanks for keeping us plant fans inspired! I hope the plant pile keeps growing!

All we gotta do is not overload on the traps and figure out the lines around the locks. There is a "playable" trap for every archetype we got in our deck. "Sunavalon"(too bricky, Bengh better Link4), Rikka, "Therion"(Regulus is better), Aroma, Raika

Jess, it's because of you and your strategies I was able to improve. If anyone can make bring back power to the plants I know it'll be you. As an idea, why not start looking towards synchro plant monsters since there's now more room in the extra deck
I discovered the Rikka deck when Master Duel released its solo mode and loved the tribute mechanic! Thanks for the recap on the deck history in the TCG and congrats for all the wins!

I join really late the plant gang still short before the last banned list,but i enjoyed still the deck. I really hope that the phni plant support will bring back the deck in full strenght and i definitly will test it.

Jess, I’ve been playing plant for a while from armomage to rikka it’s been a pleasure to watch it evolve over the years. You being one of the biggest inspirations to the plant type users how do you think with the new aroma, raika support/engines will it progress further?

Have you tried testing Rikka with Traptrix? After Aroma support, Rikka Traptrix is insane because of Aroma Healing (which you can pitch with Traptrix Vesiculo).
I am a Rikka Traptrix player myself who made my own deck and play on locals, you inspired me to play plants from back then so much love to see the behind the scenes of deckbuilding and stuff.
