There's games on PS5 that look and run a lot better than FF XVI, it's not the hardware it's the devs.
as a guy who's never played a final fantasy game this makes me want to jump in and start playing it
The first Final Fantasy game that caught my eye was 15, I remember I really wanted to play it but I thought "there's no way I can play 14 whole games before getting into this one" but after learning that each game is its own standalone story I decided to slowly but surely start playing the series, I've played almost all games in a different order and trust me man it's never too late to get into final fantasy, and if this is your first ever game then it's going to be probably the best introduction to the series
Whoa that’s to bad 7 crisis core 15 but I recommend starting from here and playing the others

I've been gaming for a long time now. I've always seen final fantasy as one of those legendary gaming franchises that simply wasn't for me. Final fantasy 16 is definitely gonna be the first final fantasy for a lot of gamers. I am interested to what OG final fantasy players think about this game tho.
@JorRaptor how would it be the perfect first FF game when it's different to all the others and not even in the same type as its action. Will be a massive disappointment when he plays the others amd they are so different.
Like 5 hours in and i can tell this will be the type of game that makes me wish i can play for the first time again when I’m done 🔥

@@FlapJack4Gaming the moves definitely got too repetitive, and xp farming to be able to hunt the major “Marks” was not worth it, great story tho!
This has been my most anticipated game for years only after TotK, I'm so excited to be able to play it tomorrow. I really like the somewhat new direction they went with especially with a more mature and kinda dark story (so it seems at least)

I've been playing FF since the first generation of Playstation. Back then, cutting scenes were the absolute highlight and it has stayed that way for me. This game is insane. The story was told breathtakingly. I felt the characters every second I played. And side quests aren't really popular in any game. What's to come? Get here, bring there and kill this. I couldn't put the controller down. 10/10 points thx square enix

Traversal and the map really to me reminds me of Star Ocean the Divine Force the fact that you can pretty much fast travel to anywhere that you want but if you just pick any spot on the map and start walking you can reach almost any spot on the map if you want which makes it kind of like an open world map and that's one of the things that I like that they did when it came to Star Ocean that the Divine Force they were open zones that seemed like an open-world because of how well they interconnected
I love this comment because you are SO correct. A lot of complaints about this game are usually the "lack of open world" but I think what they mean to say is "lack of open over-world". As in older titles you'd have an avatar of the MC (or his party) walking from one area to the next in the over-world map. And now that has been changed to a selection on the map. But if you actually explore each zone and just like you said, see how they're really all connected, then I think a lot of these complaints would be taken back. I actually favor the system we have in FF16 over the old one personally. Specially with how detailed every area is. Also I need to play Star Ocean TDF still. I bought it forever ago and have yet to pop it in the PlayStation lol.
@@guyinapandasuit2691 good sir... if you don't play Star Ocean the Divine Force you are missing out because that game put Star Ocean back on the map and that's why we're getting the remake of Star Ocean the Second Story now they had said that they wanted to release that came to the West because that's the one that we got first that we knew and grew up on but they refused to release it until they heard enough voice from the public and that game gave them all the voice they needed
The only thing I wish like you said is being able to play on the harder mode without completing the story first but it still looks amazing 🔥
I'll admit i do love classic traditional ff combat, but this has got to be the most accessible game for any gamer thats interested in it and those Accessibility Rings are a blessed godsend, and for some reason this got me thinking about FF8, like i said i love classic FF combat, but could you imagine if FF8 got remade with FF16's combat structure? Good gravy that'll be sweet awesome, this game has to get Game of the Year, its story is awesome, music, ambience, sound design, good character arc's shocking plot twists, an incredible world to explore im completely in love with the game, and without Microtransactions and that always online nonsense, truly the best game ive played in quite some time
It’s in my top 3 FF of all time ,I feel like they have layed a foundation of quality and gameplay that should be the standard going forward a potential 16-2 would be cool maybe even a post game cgi movie there’s so much here they have set up I wanna keep exploring the world

My friend kept talking about this game before release and he kept begging me to try it out. I wasn’t planning on playing it but I got on after work one day and after him telling me to play it for the 14th time I finally bought it. And I have no regrets, this game was amazing. The bosses, combat, music, cutscenes, and characters. I was going to give spider man 2 my game of the year vote but spider man will need to surpass this game to get that vote now.
I love this game and it’s combat even so I just wish Square Enid does not scrap that classic turn base system that FF series rooted from, I am not blinded by bias and nostalgia as I also love this kind of combat, I just wish they do not forget it and wish other FF games have turn base system while other release have this kind of combat other than that this is a masterful execution of a FF game to its combat and specially its narrative as what All JRPG should be.
I’m curious how the ultima weapon will be when people start the game again on the final fantasy setting which is kinda like new game plus. I’m loving this game so far. I really enjoyed the demo. It’s like game of thrones and final w put together but before game of thrones started to suck.
You're not getting Ultima Weapon till near the end anyway. At that point, you're already lv 80, close to level 90 breezing through enemies and bosses.
The materia system was great in FF7 with the customability but this is so hard to choose just 9 abilities lol. Some of them are so freaking cool

If Joraptor loves it, I’m going to love it… I wasn’t interested in spending over $70 on another FF game that wasn’t the next FF7 game, but I instantly pre-ordered after completing the demo. The demo knocked me out my socks, I couldn’t believe how good it was and how good it looked. I really do hope the RPG elements have t been stripped too much.

Just finished the game..my first ff.. thoroughly enjoyed it..tho i will give it a rest for a bit b4 jumping into ng+ i found the over the top particle effects during some combat sequences got a bit munch towards the end for my eyes..but yea had a ball playing it tbh

Mechanics are very reminiscent of kingdom hearts 2 magic reaction commands and parry’s all similar , if you like kh2 mechanics you’ll like this
The only thing I didn't like were the Quick Time Events... other than that it's really good. FF16 is the only game that can challenge TotK for GOTY, realistically[

i played with the special rings from story mode. the esper system that you can acces after beating the demo shows how deep the combat system can be, and how fast the ring can swap and combo between the 3 icons.
i guess mastering this combat style without the ring will take a very long time, but it might be very satisfying to pull off

Just like with FFX, the developers of FF16 have yet again made RPGs fun for hardcore fans and easy to adapt to for beginners. Now im wondering when i play Rebirth will it be weird adjusting to the different form of gameplay.

@@Asphyxx-up7ii I'm mostly talking about what they focused on most. Of course they'd turn based combat, I'm not denying that. But unlike six, it didn't focus on it deeply and rather let the story and characters speak for them.

This FF is actually more catered towards people that werent into any FF games before since its different (gameplay wise).
So no, you dont need to play prior games of the series for FF 16

I agree with everything said in this review. Well said. However, I'd like to add a couple complaints, the first being that for the first half of the game at the very least, the side quests are horrible fetch quests that add no value other than being a constant reminder that you are missing game content, and the second being that even in the main story there is a lot of downtime where nothing interesting is happening. This is also resolved by the second half of the game, but I don't like that one moment you're hunting down an all-powerful godlike tyrant and the next you're building a workshop for a little girl.
However, even with these cons in mind, FFXVI is a game I can highly recommend to everyone who enjoys action games, and is probably one of, if not THE best PS5 exclusive as of now.
I agree. Mid was and is the Worst Engineer in all of the Final Fantasy games. She wants to invent but makes you invent instead. I hated that part of the story so much. but the rest of the game being good was enough to ignore it
I'm about half way through the game, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm not really digging it. I watched this video to try and convince myself that I should like it more, but honestly it's just too boring for me. The combat is offensively easy, and the side quests are beyond boring just to name a couple gripes, but I am very picky, so my opinion may not be shared by many. The story is amazing though, and the characters are well written and voiced. I'm going to finish it, but it seems more of a chore at this point. I was just curious to see if anyone else felt the same as me, but after watching a few reviews and reading the comments, I'm pretty alone on this rock.
I agree but the later half of the game is worth it, the middle part really falls of a cliff for a bit I'm surprised not many people mention it, but after bahamut the game really kicks, and the ending is amazing too
Stranger of Paradise is somewhat forgotten but is an excellent action RPG in its own right.
Definitely, before FFXVI I actually wanted that game but I ended up copping XVI before that one somehow

i believe u understated how bad the performance mode is. Yes it is locked 60fps in combat but when you explore the world in performance mode it is nearly unplayable due to the frames being very inconsistent. This forced me to play in grpahic mode but due to the 30fps being solid i got used to it after 1.2 hours
It looks to be a great game overall. But why no reviewer talks about the negatives of this game?
Most people only say that the negatives are frame rate drops and motion blur which is what the day 1 patch is supposed to fix. So maybe there aren't any negatives aside from final fantasy mode not available at the start.
@@Sokioku I see.. But what about Final Fantasy elements being taken out such as no status effects. I don't see poison, slow, stop, blind, confuse. Or what about no party? Or No control or use of other characters?

there are. mainly exploration isn't that crazy. side quests, while being good narratively, are mundane until the last half of the game. rpg elements not too strong.

Too much on screen CLUTTER during attack animations/gameplay. I don’t know how anyone can stand that crap. Even more annoying is the attack numbers floating around. You can’t even see the attack animation of the character through all of the special effects flying around the screen. Way over the top.

Na you're golden mate. There could be a few series carry over stuff but nothing that will hold you back.
I've played all but a few Final Fantasy games and I think I can say with confidence that no, not really. I feel like Final Fantasy XVI differentiates itself enough from all previous titles (in things like combat, story, etc) to not really justify playing any previous games to appreciate it more. There are recurring themes and world elements like the presence and influence of crystals, magic, and even things like chocobos (the big rideable chickens you see) but ultimately I don't think playing any previous games will affect the way you perceive the game. You should still definitely play them, they're amazing games on their own, but it's not required to appreciate or understand XVI
The only thing that carry over FF games are the summons and creatures and other small references. But even the same creature can be entirely two different things in different FF games. For example Ifrit in FF15 looked way more humanoid and was stronger than he is usually. Usually Bahamut is considered one of the stronger summons but in FF16 it seems like most summons are around the same level. (Also summons are Eikons in this game)

I guess if you want to enjoy FF XVI even further with some of the references, FF V and FFVI as it shares a couple bosses with XVI.
If you want to play past series entries for the sake of it go for it.

My gos.. What a boring game.. I'm just smashing trough everything because the hardest difficuly feels like story mode. I know I'm in the minority, but I really can't understand how these reviews miss this.
Every boss has some cool introduction, but there is ZERO tension cause you know you're going to destroy him easilly. I'm not even looking at gear or whatever.
It's as boring as it ia beautiful. I feel this is extreeeeeemely overrated.

I hate Dark Souls kind of games , I'm glad there are other action games like ff16 that are not using the Dark Souls mechanics . I need more of these games, but i feel like every action game of recent times are just another dark souls.

This game was breathtaking. A cinematic masterpiece. It was a moving movie mixed in with an amazing gameplay. The whole storyline was riveting, character development was beautiful as well, a clash between ideals and values this game was truly life-changing!
