    This really isn’t a wave kit. It was originally released by orange cat industry in China as a third party kinda thing that actually got the official license and wave did a later distribution to Japan. The first run box doesn’t even mention wave

    • @fantastiCkiLler92
      @fantastiCkiLler92 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's literary says on the side of the box
      製作元(Manufacturer)- Orange cat. 輸入販売元 (Distributer)- Wave. He just didn't bother to read those.

    • @seanswader7425
      @seanswader7425 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be honest, I think a lot of people see the wave logo and just assumed they made it. Orange Cat has a few other kits that ended up getting distributed by Wave over the past year or two.

    • @KaseyWynne
      @KaseyWynne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even if they didn't design it, they did pick it up for distribution, so I think it still speaks to their quality. After all, there's a ton of great third party kits they DIDN'T pick up for distribution (tho I understand they're not going to get any of the bootleg gundams, they could've gotten some of the mecha girl kits that are coming out)

    • @seanswader7425
      @seanswader7425 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gundam stuff is almost exclusive to Bandai unless the subject looks drastically different in design those third party and bootleg companies often get shutdown.
      This particular kit was easier to distribute since Orange Cat actually went through the trouble to get the license to produce their work and wave just figured it would be easy money to pick up the license for Japan. The kits are already tooled and set to go, just slap their logo on the box.

    Builders specialized in Sci fi kits always make me smile when they say they've just worked on the worst kit ever. You guys should try car kits from AMT/MPC/Polarlights, like for exemple the over reedited never really taken care of 1969 Dodge Charger... Heck, new owner Round2 tried to fix that cast... Went from "good for the recycle bin" to "It's buildable... Sorta." or "some parts may be good to keep in the parts bin".

    • @SicMetalMaggot4life
      @SicMetalMaggot4life 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Oh trust me, if you delve into sci fi kits enough there are plenty of example of kits that need excessive amounts of work to look good even for a model kit standard. Especially when it comes to kits from some of the less prolific model companies, those can be both absolutely horrendously molded AND made of weak plastic that snaps new out of the box with a fresh reprint. Nevermind the antiquated joint designs needed for posing that more often than not compromise the stability of the kit.

    • @chassegallerie2910
      @chassegallerie2910 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@SicMetalMaggot4life Let's be honest: How many sci-fi builders build those? I mean, almost all sci-fi builders I've seen don't even want to build middle to late 90s kits.

    • @MachineMindDesigns
      @MachineMindDesigns 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@chassegallerie2910 Funny, as someone who's built lots of gundam kits since 2010 I've lately been building 80's Sci-fi kits (mostly Macross and Dorvack) and obscure kits because I just want more of a challenge when I build model kits and lots of kits from the 80's were quite unique to look at. Hell, I enjoy the modern Maschinen Kreiger kits because they behave more like 80's kits and some obscure kits will outright fight you back. I also like to heavily customize and kitbash my models and 80's kits are quite a goldmine for that. Ironically, Although the engineering on bandai's part is bar none, I find it extremely hard to customize their newer kits. Not gonna lie though, I kinda want to get a Lamborghini model kit and Sci-Fi induce kitbash the hell out of it.

  • @spartan576

    Well, update on my previous comment I guess, I just finished building this and I had none of the issues mentioned on this video, the pieces that are interchangeable to connect the shield can be removed without any problems as well, the only piece that gave me problems was the yellow piece that goes under the red piece on the chest, that was a really hard thing to fit.
    However, it seems the kit I got was the "original" one, before wave got involved, since there's no mention of them anywhere on the box or manual, only orange cat, the action base connector piece that was omitted on the wave version was present as well.
    All in all, it was a surprisingly good build, so good that I ordered the tekkaman evil kit as well. I guess the moral of the story is: avoid the wave version.

    • @gtf234
      @gtf234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a reimagining of a 70's Tatsunoko cartoon, Tekkaman the Space Knight. It uses a lot of the original's terminology like Pegas and the Tekksetter system, but Tekkaman Blade mostly swaps out the 70's cheese for 90's edginess- still a lot of the core premise of Earth's desperation for survival amid an alien invasion. It's a pretty good watch though it is sometimes hard to take as a serious as it carries itself when it regularly calls the protagonist Takaya by the nickname "D-Boy".
      Funny anecdote about it is D-Boy is voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa, also known for roles like Sephiroth, Mitsurugi of Soul Caliber, and Dante from the Devil May Cry series™. D-Boy became an inside joke for his seiyuu career because he belted out one of D-Boy's many raging screams so hard the mic broke. He also plays Kyosuke Nanbu from Super Robot Wars, and the Original Generation timeline has a reference to this: the Gespenst MK-II S has an attack, the Ultimate Gespenst Kick, which turns whoever you put in it into a screaming Super robot style maniac, even really stoic characters like Kyosuke- it makes him scream out the attack like he's D-Boy (it also prompts Ratzel to become Harry Ord from Turn-A Gundam and bafflingly shout UNIVERSE!). Fun with voice actors.

    Last year i bought WAVE 1/35 Blood Sucker Armored Trooper. While not exactly as trouble free as most Gundam kits, i did not have many issues with it. Of course, i managed to put some parts backwards and discovered it only several subassemblies later. So i had to take all of it apart. And sure enough, one of the pegs broke. But to be fair, i have broken pegs on Gunpla kits on several occasions as well. Some parts don't fit quite as snuggly and tend to fall off at slightest movement. But overall i wouldn't say that my first experience with WAVE kits was disappointing (i also have KoG Ver. 3, but being an older kit, it is not a snap fit). Certainly not a PITA that PLUM kits are.

    So I just finished my Tekkaman earlier today. And I actually didn't have too much problems with the assembly. 😕
    In fact it was actually not too bad, some things were tight fits but overall not bad.

      @michaelh555 it's the Wave one. I still have to disagree. I've had it assembled for about 2 years now, and it's still solid

      Human size in(side) "power armor" (slightly smaller than MCU Hulkbuster), similar concept to Guyver´s alien bio-booster armor tech or Samus Aran from Metroid.

    This is a wave and China model maker collaboration, majority kit production is by china. Assembling pain is normal for China production kits, those spoiled by bandai should not even touch these but any one built other brands and garage kits with advanced skills can go for these as long as they know what to expect

    Bandai kits are typically made in Japan if I recall correctly. However this kit is clearly stated to be made in China where they can probably cut corners. That can probably result in how the molds are not properly produced or how the parts are not molded correctly in the factory leading to not fitting parts. Though this isn't the same as non-snap in model kits which besides Tamiya would probably be made in China. A lot of third party kits/knock offs are definitely made in China and don't usually fit correctly unless the company tries. But this is all a speculation and I might be completely wrong on it.

    • @fantastiCkiLler92

      Bandai kits are mostly made in japan, but in recent years the SDEX and SD Sangoku Sogetsuden line of kits are all made in China.
      And this kit is made by Orange Cat Industry which is obviously a china company.

    As someone who builds Maschinen Kreiger kits, I feel conflicted about your irritation towards Wave. I mean, least it isn't Mechanicore or Cutecube, but i am aware that Wave kits are notorious for requiring more work than Kotobukiya kits (and that says something).
    Also, Did I hear a random Spaceballs: The Reference?

    This is probably another example of ppl that spoiled by bandai product, remember back then when model kits are all needs to be glued?
    And I don't get when people found out the parts don't fit they just use force to press the parts together. Why? You can just cut the side of the peg hole using nipper, then you put the parts together the peg goes into the hole, and the hole will expand. You don't even need to cut the pegs.

    • @razrafz

    • @marcosdheleno
      @marcosdheleno 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the articulation is good enough, it can do most of the poses people will want to. but this isnt a toy, its like many gundam model kits where you will pose it and leave it, never to be touched again. at least it isnt falling appart all the time.
      now the fitting is a massive issue.
