He`s certainly in character, he doesn`t talk like that in interviews, Moore used to go into his Bond character for kids he`d meet at airports, he was the most fan friendly Bond of all, great stuff.

Moore might not have been my favorite Bond actor, but he definitely is the best ambassador for the series. He was never ashamed or reticent about promoting the Bond franchise. I loved it when he hosted the top 10 Bond film moments in 2002

Roger Moore isn’t my favorite Bond but he is 100% the best ambassador the character has ever had. Connery and Lazenby are bitter towards it, Dalton and Brosnan seem to enjoy their privacy(which is fine) and Craig is a drama queen about it and thinks its awful(and sometimes he likes it idk)

    • @BanCorporateOwnedHouses

I'm 100% in agreement with you on this opinion. Moore seemed to have loved the character, the fans, the crew, and his fellow cast. He did interviews and promotions about his role up until his death. He isn't my favorite bond, but he's definitely my favorite actor to have the title of Bond. I think Brosnan is my personal favorite bond, but as you pointed out, he's very private about his life, and doesn't really go out of his way to interact with his fans. That is totally okay, and it was actually nice to see him do that GoldenEye watch-along stream last week. I wonder if Brosnan realizes the positive legacy he has for a lot of folks between his films and video games.

    • @Q80Warlock
      @Q80Warlock 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Yes Roger Moore didn't really have an entrapment syndrome with his Bond character compared to the other stars, perhaps because he was lucky to actually play the softer Bond model that started with "Diamonds are Forever" which imho didn't really fit Connery's portrayal of Bond.

    • @miesvaillanykyisyytta3252
      @miesvaillanykyisyytta3252 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Moore did not take himself very seriously. He even took cameo roles in random movies as an unfortunate buffoon, which arguably cheapened his portrayal of Bond.

Roger Moore always seemed like the guy who wants to enjoy everyday of his life. He likes to see people smile. And his work with UNICEF shows he'll go out of his way to help others. I think that everytime he came back to Bond, he gets as much happiness from it as his fans do.

I always say that Roger Moore isn't my favorite bond, but he's my favorite actor to ever be bond. The guy obviously loved the character, his fans, the production crew, and his fellow cast. The guy did interviews and interacted with fans up until his death. Even his most campy films in the series are also some of my favorite guilty pleasures. Moonraker will always be a personal favorite of mine.
I just got done watching A View To A Kill last night for the first time, and I actually really enjoyed it. My only frustration wasn't Moore's old age, but the lack of acknowledgement about it. They could have told a great story about an aging Bond in that one.

"Moonraker will always be a personal favorite of mine." Me too, I saw it in a theather when it came out. You had to be in context, it was all about future.
At about the same time that I saw the movie, I saw the space shuttle on the back of a 747 pass over my head and land at the Dorval Montreal airport... For real! Space shuttle was brand new and never went in space while all of this happened. Those were very exciting times and Moonraker was part of it.
It is like if the next James Bond movie would have Space X Starship into it and Bond would use it to go to the Moon.

I saw this when it was on tv way back in 1987. I was a big fan of Roger Moore and saw him in 2008 in London. He was promoting his book "My Word is my Bond". Emma Forbes interviewed him on stage and at some point was taking questions from the audience.
I asked Sir Roger " What was it like working with the other big stars in The Wild Geese"? He replied modestly, " What do you mean? The other big stars, I was the big star!
The whole theatre erupted in laughter. He definitely had a good sense of humour!

Also perhaps they couldn't use tons of make up, if this was the case & by 87 he had recoverd & they could lather his face in make up. Also they're not movie quality cameras on the tv show. I somehow find Roger Moore's doddery and long in the tooth characterization of James Bond more appealing and endearing than his younger performance.
    I dont know why.
Perhaps because as a younger Bond one always compares him to Sean or other younger Bonds.
But Moores charm really lasts and infact glows when he is older, since he isnt competing on the virility criterion now.
He seems more at ease and charming, and almost detective-like in the older ones. As if he knows that it's his smooth talk and grey cells that will help him get through the situation and not a punch up.
Perhaps why I really like A View To A Kill despite the obvious flaws and terrible make up and an obviously aging Moore.
It will take years before someone else will have that sort of appeal to make Bond so alluring at 56.

That bedroom scenes of with him and Grace Jones is a bit icky in retrospect but I would have loved to watch an older Moore play something that played to his character.

Brosnan all had mentions either stated or implied re: Tracy Bond. Daniel Craig's tenure began as a hard reboot of series but paid homage to past. ie. Walther PPK, Aston Martin DB5 etc.

My hot take on the codename theory?
Connery is one Bond, retires due to boredom. Lazenby/Roger Moore are the same Bond (retires due to old age).
Connery Bond comes back for one more mission after Lazenby/Moore Bond takes leave of absence.
Dalton is one Bond (sacked after going rogue)
      Brosnan is another Bond (retires)
There’s a few issues with continuity here but you can iron most of them out/explain them away.
It’s the most logical approach for me.
      Craig isn’t proper canon.

I think he looks so well in this programme because he's got a little more weight on than he would for playing Bond. You get to a certain age and you can either have a trim physique or a young looking face. The passage of time makes it more difficult to achieve both simultaneously. Believe me, I know.

He's playing Roger Moore as Bond like he did in Cannonball Run. Your impression of him cracked me up. Glad I'm not alone in getting a kick out of his contributions to this Special. He looked good for one more film but I think they did right casting Timothy Dalton when they did. To many of the next generation he was their Bond and he did bring a serious quality to the role much like Craig has done. When you see Roger in this and then come to Dalton it reminds me of going to the cinema and having to readjust my expectations for the films to not expect any charm humour or fun or eyebrow raising. Thankfully Pierce brought back a lot of the elements of Roger and Sean brought to the role.

Roger Moore WAS James Bond. This special just shows how he could still be Bond no matter his age. One of my most exciting moments was when I met him for his star on Hollywood Walk in 2007. Just awesome! As for Roger being better here than in AVTAK, I believe it has to do with his hair. After hanging the towel as 007, he just quit dyeing his hair lighter. His hair never really got gray, so it really looks more natural. They just should have kept his natural hair in his latest movies for sure.

"Bond is truely a symbol of the free world and some say hes just an actor in the movies but we all have to start somewhere". Brilliant!
The Russians then responded with "Hes just an agent with a license to kill"
