My god how the Island has change from when I hitch hiked there in 1974. I had $35 to my name. The Island was very good to me. I worked as a waiter for Sea Pines. Happy to see all it's beauty is still there.
I rented a small house on Honey Horn Plantation in 1975 for $150 a month. No rental application, No deposit...Just drop off the rent each month. I use to watch polo matches out my living room window. I know it's unbelievable but It's true! At the time you could rent a one bedroom condo in Harbor Town with a view of the lighthouse for $350 a month.
1. an estate on which crops such as coffee, sugar, and tobacco are grown. 2. colonization or settlement of emigrants, especially of English and then Scottish families in Ireland in the 16th-17th centuries under government sponsorship.
Spent a week there with family. Not at all impressed with anything on the island, whatsoever. If you own land there, or love golf, maybe.... but otherwise, it’s the very definition of a “tourist trap”, and you’re only lining the pockets of locals. I’ll take my chances elsewhere.
I miss Hilton Head-I had graduated from college and came to work at the hospital as a nurse. Thank you for sharing!!!!
