Great job! I'm looking to repaint my Miata as well but I have some bondo work to do on rust spots I'm removing. Do you still recommended this method of using a 2k straight colour instead of doing base and clear coats?
Best sticking to what you already have, if you have base and lacquer already on your car then repaint panels with the same , if it has straight 2k then stick to that :)
Superb job. Was it sprayed in situ or in a booth? I'm wondering what I coukd achieve in my garage. Tempted to build a cheap booth into my garage as a temp solution
@@Robinmuk Hi yes its 2k straight colour, that includes the green pigment and the gloss all in one , the other way would is base and lacquer as you said.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration I've dabbled in painting and am looking to do my own mx5 I have a good compressor and half decent gun I have done the bacecoat then clear method but is quite involved for a DIYer Would you say direct gloss is the better option for beginners and it it more forgiving? Excellent job on the car , that finish is epic 👍🏻👍🏻
yes definitely go for straight colour 2k as a DIYer unless its metallic or similar then you will have to do base and lacquer , with base coat your preparation has to be perfect, basecoat is easy enough to apply and so is the lacquer but your prep beforehand isnt. if you watch our other video on painting an mx5 in 20 mins, its done in base and lacquer and you will see how meticulous you have to be with then, there was also 2 days of repair and prep on that car beforehand . but you will also see at the end the end result has a deeper shine.
8:54 Mate, just use a windshield wiper to drive the water away. Much easier and faster. Also- don`t use sandpaper without some sort of a polishing pad- not everyone would notice and let`s be honest- a Miata is not exactly a Bugatti, but you need a flat surface for best results, not finger marks. :)
Looks stunning 👍👍😎
Thanks Lee! Came up well :)
Gorgeous job
Thank you :)

It was sprayed in situ. So this could easily be achieved in a garage. :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration you guys are superb, all credit. You've motivated me 🫂🙏
Nother super video.... how long after painting before u would flatten and polish?? Thanks
Thank you David :) usually it can be done the next day as long as the temperature dosnt drop too much :)
Amazing video! What compound or polish did you use! Just sprayed mine with 2K mint green :)
We use Fatecla G3 then G10. :)
Good job! Did you use direct gloss 2k paint?
Hi Lee , yes it was 2k paint.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration I think what Lee would like to know (as I do) did you use direct gloss one coat paint, or base and lacquer clear coat.
