Gotta give Futurama credit. Every time they got cancelled they gave the fans one hell of a finale.
and it is similar to the devils hands are idle playthings in the ending scene, which makes them both even better.

I really love this ending. Mostly because of two reasons:
1. It gave Leela and Fry the ending they deserved, and more importantly: what the show deserved.
2. It ended with that classic Futurama charm, of clever writing, something unexpected, and most importantly, a great way for the show to say it was never-ending because of it all.
I wish this show would come back, but honestly, this was the perfect way to end it.

Let's see, where do I begin? Ah, yes! Peter is now a sadistic asshole who loves to watch his friends get hurt and abuse his family. Lois, the doting wife and mother? Fuck that character type! Let's make her a sex-addicted whore who cares little for her family! Chris? Let's just call him Retard 2.0 and leave it at that. Meg? Oh yeah! Rather than being a teenage daughter with teen issues and is usually the butt of her dad's formerly hilarious jokes and pranks, she's now the punching bag of not just the family, but of the entire town. Her high school made her fight with a bully an event that students could attend to watch her get slaughtered, and had a planned 2 minute funeral after the fight. Don't believe me? Watch the episode. It was really bad. The B Plot of that episode... was kinda funny, I guess? But it's nothing special by today's modern day episodes. Finally, we get to Brian. Oh God... the voice of reason in the family is now a liberal douchebag who will use any tactic to get into a woman's pants, more specifically Lois. Quagmire? His character is long gone. The lovable and hilarious sex-addict and pervert neighbor of the Griffin family is now a rapist who sleeps with underage girls. Joe is just there for cripple and handicap jokes (really unfunny ones, I might add), and Cleveland is what some have called "Black Peter." Personally, I just call him Peter 2: The Sequel.
It's really sad these characters became what they are now because I genuinely loved and laughed at their cutaway gags and jokes and the insane adventures they'd have in Quahog, but I blame Fox for burning the writers' minds out. They're fresh out of ideas at this point that their episodes and characters are so hateful. I heard Seth MacFarlane wants to end the show already, but Fox wants to keep it going for cash.
This isnt the last episode... theres another one after this. Its episode one.
Nimori Kandara and after that one comes episode 2 and after this one three.
And so on and so forth...

For everyone saying it goes back to the pilot, it actually doesn’t. The professor says it will bring them back to the instant before they created the time button, which means it’s open for the series to maybe get rebooted again someday from the instant before the time button was invented
But, when they played this live, it immediately went to the pilot, with no commercial break...no commercial break was a pretty big deal at the time.
It doesn’t matter if they aired episode one after this when the professor literally says it will bring them back to exactly the moment before he invents the time button

Haha I know right it's impossible. The universe can't be time locked/looped. Because we've already delved into time travel in other episodes which take place millennia after and centuries before the events of this episode and series so how can it be time locked/looped between the beginning of 21st and 30th century because everything before or after the loop cannot exist because it never happens if it loops back around to the begining 21st century after this set time. Yeah you can watch the series again but you'd have to skip all time travel episodes for that fan theory to make sense..
Well, if it takes them back to the moment before it was invented, and they will have no memory of what happened, wouldnt events just play out again the exact same way?
From all the times Leela rejected fry, her last words of the show was "I do". 😭
This was a good ending. On one hand I wished we got at least one more season out of futurama. Y'know like seeing more of zoidberg and his new girlfriend. Or bender with his tap dance partner. But on the other hand I'm still glad it was given such a strong and beautiful ending.

When a series ends like this, fans have to accept that this should be it and I hope you enjoyed the ride.

I mean after the first cancell, the fans had the films made because they didn't want it to end. Then after the last movie they made the show come back. (The case literally says back by popular harassment) They aren't going to let this ending stay, people will always want Futurama back. 😔

Agree as this show, Bojack Horseman, King of the Hill, My Little Pony FIM, Gravity Falls, Regular Show etc as examples of ending an animated show on a beautiful note when it earned it's ending and not stoop to the levels of becoming stale then rotting and repetitive to drag on and on like those 3 shows you mentioned.
The Simpsons, Spongebob and Family Guy are like dying old men on life support for a very long time even years and have been in a non-responsive vegetative state for a very long time too, you've come to accept they are gone. It's time to pull the plug and turn off the machine to end their suffering, it's the humane thing to do.
They explained the meaning of life and reincarnation. The egg theory too.
This is the perfect ending to the show. Don't change it.

At the end they hold each other. Reversing everything just means none of their happiness happens, so for one last moment they grasp each other. This show deserves so more.
Hakim Yeaamlikha You clearly don’t understand the ending properly, they get to go through all their adventures again, and get to fall in love again. Things can change, and become different, because of this ending, there’s always a possibility of it coming back
futurama has always been bittersweet and I think that's the point. We're supposed to accept the depressing nature of how they are stuck on an infinite loop but be happy at the fact they both are basically destined to fall in love and go in this journey forever and ever, which they both chose

I love this ending so much, technically Futurama never ended, it’s just in an infinite loop.
Futurama always makes you think, that's what makes it a great show
It always bothered me how little people emphasized the fact that it's just an infinite loop that nibbler could probably break at some point with his time shenanigans.
Not a loop. Just goes back to when the professor invented the time button. Sigh.

This sums up one of my favorite things about Fry. Yes, what he said is stupid and obvious and unhelpful, but at the same time, he demonstrated that he was instantly able to wrap his head around this exotic concept of "orthogonal time". His mind isn't curious enough to distract itself with how complicated the idea is, so he just rolls with it. It's a trait he and the professor share. It takes a lot to blow their minds, but for very different reasons.

@@mostar1219 I think so. A lot of times, character development goes way, way deep. They can have favorite colors, favorite movies, phobias, and hobbies that never literally manifest in an obvious way in the art but sit in the background, informing the characters' actions.

I feel like the whole "I've been searching from yesterday to tomorrow" and "we've been right now the whole time" is a metaphor telling everyone to live in the right now. Especially since Leela and Fry are happiest with each in the "right now"

I remember getting so nervous when this episode premiered, I thought they were going to screw it up. By the end of it, I was crying tears of joy because it was perfect. Fry and Leela got to spend their life together and it all started all over again, it was so amazing.

People just want to imagine the best ending for their favourite show, and the fear of a poor ending pulls the people to seek the elements (in a incounscious way) to elaborate a 'Clever and romantic' ending that gives a sense to it.
I watched Futurama a bit as kid on adult swim when it was originally airing but I never really "noticed" it back then. Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland show became my comfort shows and I've watched them all the way through so many times but then Futurama popped up on Hulu and I said "Oh yeah!" I just binged it all the way through and it's so much better than any of those. It's closer to Rick and Morty but I've always been fascinated by space and the future anyways. For an animated comedy Futurama had some incredible journeys and events. Many rather wholesome and emotional. Futurama is far underrated, I really hope it reboots. This ending was amazing and so well put well together. They set it up to be either a perfect ending, or a perfect continuation. So many of the episodes, especially this one and the forward time machine episode, made such an impact that I still had vivid images of them in my head watching it all these years later. Bravo
Edit: I just read that Hulu actually did end up reviving Futurama! An all-new season with the original voice cast is scheduled to drop in 2023.

I feel like people didnt get this ending, they aren’t making Futurama a loop. They specifically said that they’d be going back to before he invented the time button, Fry said “wanna go around again?” Referring to them actually living their lives
Thats exactly how I took it when I first saw this finale. He means going back to the beginning of the episode. At the beginning of the episode, if everything would have gone right. This is where fry and leelas life together would have truly started. I think people get confused because of the fact that when this episode first aired, they happend to put the very first episode on afterwards. I don't know, maybe we are wrong, but I always saw it as going back to the beginning of the episode.
I love how Futurama is so used to canceled that they are able to create an “ending” that still hits the spot and leaves people satisfied but also leaves room to build further episodes on. I would really love to see more episodes but this really seems like the end this time

God i miss being in love with this show.
Id watch every episode as it came out, and cried so many times.
When fry found his future nephews grave, thinking it was his brother, and cried at how his brother named him after him to carry on his name.
How i cried at Seymour, and how he waited day n day until fry to return from his delivery, never knowing fry had been frozen at the time.
These two moments struck out so much in memory whenever i feel like coming back to this show, but i wouldnt be able to handle those episodes again. This is one of my favorite TV shows of all time, and seeing this episode caused me so much sadness that the show ended, but happiness that in canon it never really ends.
Thank you to the studio who brought this into my and millions of peoples lives, truly a diamond among the ruff of cartoons.
Just finished watching every episode I think I saw up to series 8 final in past but nothing made me laugh and cry as much as Futurama always has. It's truly special 💜🧡 I hope the new season lives on as beautifully (:

It's the season finale, and since the Professor sent them back the instant before he conceived the Time Button, the episode basically replays on a loop. The Professor put them all in a time loop where Fry and Leela live a full life over and over again in a frozen world until the Professor shows up to take them back to the beginning.
Kinda, but also a powerful indicator of their feelings for one another. They're completely and totally confident that they'll live their lives together again just as they did in stasis.

I'm so conflicted with the revival because this was such an awesome ending. You get fry and leela living together finally but in such a bizarre and entertaining way. Then with how time resets to have another go around essentially. Just brilliantly written. I really hope they get this revival right. See what happens.

The fact that the professor smiles at the end shows that he really cared about them even though he acted like he didn’t.
To be fair, this finale is perfect because it’s cannon that the next episode is the first one

If anyone was depressed about frys dog think about it like this he gets to see his dog again when he time traveled and lived above the pizza store they reunited once more
Well, now that they announced that they're bringing back Futurama on Hulu this ending loses some of it's emotional punch.
I mean seriously, are we really going to have to see 20 new episodes of Fry and Leela going back and forth about being together? This was the perfect ending for them! 😢

This is an ending. Very rare to see some perfect closure from any other good show. This one is perfect, and it hits you with the feels that a good show should always deliver.
