    Removable thumb holes are one of the great advancements in bowling technology along with balls, synthetic lanes, and Velcro bottom soles. Another benefit of removable thumb holes is they eliminate the need for the pro to custom scrape the thumb hole. That means if you move away you can still use your old pro shop. Your pro can drill and ship you a new ball and when you get it you just screw in the thumb hole.
    Two years ago in the Summer I did a lot of yard work and was bowling twice a week. That caused my thumb to swell, I couldn't get out of the ball, resulting in poor bowling and a blister. I got my pro to drill me a bigger oval shaped thumb hole and in less than a month got a 300. Eventually my thumb receded back to normal size and I went back to my smaller thumb holes, but the bigger one saved my game for a few months and is in reserve if needed again.

    I have used the Vise for several years now, I have not had a failure yet or lost one. Make sure you do your research on how they are installed per the manufacturer and make sure the pro-shop follows the directions. I know locally another pro-shop was doing short cuts and I would hear horror stories from those that used the pro-shop, of them breaking or coming out.

    I've never had any issues with my thumb or fingers swelling bowling and that goes for when I'm bowling over 40 games on a weekend. Never had any issues with the consistency of my thumb not feeling the same from ball to ball. My pro-shop always gets my thumb right. Never have to worry about paying that extra cost for removable thumbs. I've also never used tape for that matter either.

    ron, do you know about what issues any or all have over time. i use the Turbo, and after several months the insert loosing up and it will fall out. i have also lost a few and now have an extra 2 spares just in case im at a tournament or in league an the insert comes out in the back of the pit. Some times they cannot find them when they go back to look. Working with my pro shop, i now use tape with my insert to make sure i have a snug fit. any suggestion, do you think any are better than the other? mark

      I have used for the longest time the turbo switch grips. I also had the same problem of the thumb loosening over time and falling out and getting lost. To 'fix' this you take a piece of black thumb tape and place it in the ball. You will need to experiment with the tape up or down in the ball (because that came make a difference). To fix this issue altogether, I switched over to vise using their conversion system to convert from turbo to vise and have not had any problems since! Hope this helps.

      I think the key is proper installation. I have seen all of them work great or mess up and the main issue comes down to either the drill bit or improper installation.

      @pdbdd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marklindsay426 I paid around $15 for the new system per ball(not including a new thumb slug). You would have to talk with your PSO to see if they have the parts for it. One out of three pro shops had the vise system for me. here is a link to the piece you will need if switching from turbo to vise: www.buddiesproshop.com/bowling-accessories/vise-it-transition-sleeve-for-switch-grip-to-it/

    • @drwisdom1
      @drwisdom1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using the Vise thumb holes for over a decade in every one of my balls and never had a loosening issue or failure. The reason I initially got them was one time I was bowling and the glued in thumb insert came out as I threw it and I got a gutter costing me the game. I wouldn't tolerate the failures you are describing and recommend changing thumb hole types.

    So like with the turbo brand the inner sleeves they come in multiple colors, green, purple, pink, white, etc. What's the difference in the colors besides just the color?

      It allows you to only need one outer sleeve instead of one for each ball.
