Just when the technology expanded the print industry declined. 40 years myself.

As a maintenance mechanic, I can imagine about a million things going wrong with this process. Pretty neat when everything works, though......

I used to run on rotoman 2x6 and 2x8's. We didn't have the auto plate, but that auto web system was a huge time saver. Took the web from the splicer, through the units, the oven, the color system all the way to the slitter decks. Rather than wasting time trying to load plates around the paper, it was easier and safer to rip the paper out, and fly a new kite. Used to also run stacked units for a double web, and if things needed to get really fancy, we could couple it to the press next door... but little reason for that when you can just send the books to finishing to deal with.

I'm working on a 1997 Rotoman 16page, and our PPL (automatic plate loader) still works, and our blanket washers. Old machine, but still runs at 40 000/hour, trimming inline

Dev'essere bello lavorare su una macchina così performante, in una azienda seria, in un paese normale.

Muito parecida com a tecnologia da Goss Sunday, passagem de papel, sistema de blanqueta, posicionamento da dobradeira, pena que aqui no Brasil não existem mais gráficas com cacife pra bancar uma tecnologia dessas...

I don't understand. Each plate is 4 pages wide and 15 pages long. 4x15 = 60. How does it get to 96?

Dude I'm a sheetfed printer but spent 6 months on uniman 4/2 coldset web. Newspapers. So here goes... I'm a pretty rusty on the memories. Each plate cylinder has 4 A3 size plates across press. There are 8 plates to a plate cylinder, high page nos. In the grip, lows mounted further back on plate cylinder. There are 3 plate cylinders per couple, (unit). There were 4, 2 story couples on the uniman. This was a broad sheet press, producing a tabloid paper, so 2 up. You gotta run one to understand. And I've barely scratched the surface compared to the master web printers.
