I started in the industry shortly after I turned 21, and 22yr later, ugh! I am thankfull I learned from operators that im guessing were much like your-self.. Because these days I basicly have to do everything.. I swear the company I work for has to give participation trophies just for showing up to work!! This was once an industry to be proud to be a part of.. Now?? And I have 20yr to go wish me luck. Give me an M-1000B or BE any day!!! This new stuff is fun to run and watch when it's working! God forbid you have a power surge/outage! M1000 up in half an hour or less.. Ohh boy these things if you are back up in 12hr you have a good sparky..
This is Lithoman 4/2 (L42) at Polestar Petty in Leeds, UK. Will be around 2002ish as L41 is yet to be installed next to it (the conveyor towers can be seen at the start but the press isn’t there yet). This press had originally been installed at Watford and was brought up when the factory closed. Can do maximum 64pp A4 (can do 72pp as a slim Jim quarter fold). This video shows it producing a Daily Mail, Weekend magazine section as a 40pp A3 (tabloid) product on 1840mm improved newsprint paper. I ran this machine for around 4 years until Polestar Petty closed down in 2014 to make way for the creation of the Polestar Sheffield super site (Litho building added to the existing Gravure site). Polestar ceased to be in 2016 ! Should have just kept Pettys open 😢
I printed for 27 years at RRD, great trade. Started as a jogger and worked up to a Press Operator in around 10 years time. 80s, 90s and 2000s.
