Well it is about guilt, for not ditching alcohol, he wrote this entire album after his struggles with alcohol, depression, and getting critically ill after his addiction.
So that's why i fell in love with this song in particular.. It.. Speaks to me unlike any other..

Breaking Benjamin is awesome having a harmonious voice and meaningful lyrics describing in a Gothic style where it took me sometime to look in Google what they mean. THis band is gothically, rockingly, freedomly, and breakingly awesome! *snaps ben in half*

I listen to Skillet. I enjoy their instrumental but their lyrical content is next to bad imo. Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace will always top them in that cathegory
Skillet and Breaking Benjamin have been my 2 favorite groups since 2003. My brother got me into Breaking Benjamin when we played Day of Reckoning and heard Polyamorous. My late sister got me into Skillet when she gave me her Collide album and I heard Forsaken.

Since I discovered BB, they have been my savior in my darkest times, my strength in my darkest hour and my shoulder to lean on in my weakest moments! I will never stop listening to this band and they have helped me through so much that I cannot even start to explain how much they mean to me. When in the last second a police man graved me. I spent two weeks butt naked in a suicide watch. And started crying thinking of the damage I almost caused to my family. I couldn't believe the kind of trauma I almost left in my 3 and 5 year old siblings. I'm 22 now. Its almost been a year since that day. I lost everything. But I'm now happy to see the love of my family for the first time. After years of pure pain. I cried and felt my soul got lighter.
I'm still trying to forget of those people who hurt me and cry myself out of those emotions its the only way to feel free.

This song explicitly states how my life is. Hopeless, "I cannot hold on, I will not let go." I attempted suicide over five years ago through pills and ended up living without any permanent damage. Spent eight days (two on suicide watch) in a mental ward. The experience was terrible, and yet my mindset has never changed. No matter how sad, angry, or happy I am, I just hate living. Yet I can't bring myself to try again after failing before. So those lyrics I posted ring so true to how I'm living right now. Everyday I battle and struggle with myself.

He is not referring to Lucifer when he says that. He's talking about his personal demon calling out to him, that demon being pills. It's fairly obvious he hates himself for allowing his problems to get to this level. That's why the song is called hopeless, because he sees no way out.
