    That breakdown of the "Bear" front sack was amazing. A simple analysis would have said "oh, the RB missed the block and caused a sack" and leave it at that, but you really broke down WHY he missed the block, why the Packers chose that matchup, and why that package was so hard to meet. Excellent content, good sir!

    @samsonabbott2105 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Brett, that variation on the Bear Front you're seeing is pretty common up in Canada in a more pass happy league where the defensive goal in most fronts is to get better pass rushing matchups. It gets used for the same reason you say, but the main reason is to have a versatile way to run twists with your top pass-rusher (Barrett) and one of the defensive ends against a mobile quarterback. Barrett is coming on a delayed blitz and if the play is run anything similar to one of the CFL teams that use that front, he has the choice of which side he wants to go to based on where he thinks Aaron Rodgers will step up to, but the front is schemed up that way for the ends to penetrate and Barrett to wrap.

    • @samsonabbott2105
      @samsonabbott2105 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's also a good front for running zone coverage and dropping Barrett since he starts at depth and has less distance to get to his drop. It matches him up on the back in any kind of match concept and frees him up to really just worry about crossers. Obviously Bowles wasn't going to run that against the Packers when pressure was working but it was really neat to see a great coordinator use this front.

  • @maevethefox5912
    @maevethefox5912 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Touching on this one again heading towards the playoffs is fascinating. Really feels like a way the refreshed Seattle defense could look at defending GB. I've got visions of Jamal Adams slotting at MLB in that modified Bear look, Wagner and Brooks certainly give them fast ILB types to step out wide.
    They've used Bear looks to great effect against the Rams recently, but that would really be a next step to it.
    Not saying they have quite the level of personnel that TB does, but they've been getting pretty creative with DB blitzes since Reed has taken over at RCB

    • @maevethefox5912
      @maevethefox5912 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IxnayOnTheHombre- I'm not gonna give crazy homer level arguments, but I'll question the secondary comparison at this point. Now that they're healthy and found a good RCB, the Seattle secondary is nowhere near the mess it was for the first 7 games of the season. Two Pro Bowl safeties, and really solid corner play.
      Pass rush has also been surprisingly effective, only 4.0 sacks behind TB for the year, though I'll give you that more of their pressure is manufactured. Still, adding Dunlap changed a ton, and we'll see how the pack handles the loss of their LT (who's name I'm not gonna try to spell from memory xD)
      Still don't think Seattle can win in Lambeau in January, but I'm less concerned about being fully blown out than I was before watching this.

    That defensive front is a variant in a Nickel package. I've seen it personally used by different colleges, especially ones that lack overall size, or have a surplus of athleticism or both. If you think about it, it's sort of a 3-3 stack, just a bear look because you have 2 high safeties, 2 corners, a nickel backer (dog, bandit, rover, knocker, etc.) that takes the shape and philosophy of Buddy Ryan's classic 46 defense with a modern "speed" adaptation to it. Having Barrett in the middle I'll admit is uniquely genius, but it's kind of a scheme that I've seen used by shitty football teams specifically at 5:43 where your "best players" are in the center of the field and everyone forms around them to one extent or another. I mean it definitely worked, but any worth a damn OC/OL coach could come up with a consistent method to counter it.

      As a Packer fan I’m wondering why he’s doing this video on a 15 year QB... Giving the Bucs credit for laying the “blueprint” to defeat Aaron seems like a joke. He hasn’t been winning championships left and right. He’s been beaten many times. Naming the video and having the topic be “how to beat Aaron Rodgers” would be more interesting then claiming that the Bucs defense is the only one that has figured out Aaron Rodgers. Video has a click bait title which is unusual for Brett.

    Wait, 2 great one on one edge rushers, a fast linebacker, some beastly corners and safeties, and a well disciplined defense.... THE BEARS??? I think Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, Robert Quinn, Roquan Smith, Eddie Jackson, Kyle Fuller, Jaylon Johnson, and Teshaun Gipson fit this idea greatly. Chicago is a defense which has been molded to fit modern offenses, which is heavy passing. That’s why you can run fine on them but passing is absolute hell, Chicago has taken old stacked defenses to a modern level.

    As a Packers fan, this one hurts to watch. The content is great as usual, but just seeing how my team is prone to getting annihilated is tough to see. This loss is very reminiscent of the two loses to the 49ers last year. I fear that this might be a playoff matchup and the same thing will happen. It’s hard to understand though being that the Packers offensive line has been so good for the first four weeks to look porous this week. LaFleur definitely needed to call some plays that were blitz counters (screens, swing routes, etc.). But I do appreciate the breakdown being that it was hard to understand why the packers played so terribly for the last three quarters.

    Quick question: on the 5-1 front blitz around the 8 minute mark, would the packers have handled the pressure better if the protection slid to the opposite side? The way they did it had Williams swing around to the opposite end of the o line to pick up the LB on the edge rush and he didn’t have time to block from a good angle, if they slid it so Williams blocked the side he was on already then he would have a better angle and more time to block his man, right?
