- Snake plant (sansevieria) propagation by leaf cuttings method is a popular and simple way in getting many new snake plant babies. To do snake plant propagation by leaf cuttings is very easy. Here are what we need in this process:
1. Snake plant
2. Pruning shears/ knife
3. Pot or container
4. Sand (as growth medium)
And here are the steps of doing snake plant propagation by leaf cuttings:
1. Make leaf cuttings of the snake plant by 3-5 inches.
2. Plant them in the growth medium.
3. Place the cans in the shaded area, don't put it under the direct sun.
4. A month later the roots will start appearing.
5. Keep it in the shaded area until the leaves appear and grow well.
6. Snake plant pups will start appearing 1-2 months later
Those are the simple steps of doing snake plant/ sansevieria propagation by leaf cuttings. Check the video for the full process.

Great idea to cut the leaves like this
So nice of you
It is easier to identify the bottom part like this. I planted some with the straight line cutting and mixed up the way to place into the soil, so some of them are not growing. Thanks for your cool idea and I will plant more with this v-shape cutting. 😄🌱🌱🌱
Nice sneak plant in grow bag

It's my pleasure
Good info ... will try 👍🏻👍🏻

After cutting do we have to wait 2 days for callus or should we directly put the cut leaf into the soil mix????
I have tried your method before seeing your video... But my leafs rot (it could have been due to excess watering or I didn't wait for the callus part)
This is great.. wanna try this to propagate my snake plant...
Happy practicing
@@EasyGardening That's right sir, it will bring you to mastery or perfection... Like what I'm doing also to my few plants.
That's absolutely right. Will be nice if you share your gardening activities too.
Nice.. I do it in my own
Thank you

The varigation yellow outermost stripe is said to be lost in this method in my propagation book. Yet it states u will get all green baby plants this way. I've cut the top of leaf straight with lower cut at an angle to indicate direction to place into soil. Top part of plant leaf must face up. Sand is not necessary. I used sphagnum peat moss. My book says to propagate varigation plants or retain that look you cut off young sports that grow out of soil/media from the mother plant.
Exactly. The yellow stripe will not appear to the new leaves. There are many media that can be applied to snake plant propagation. They are all fine. Thanks for your sharing
I use white sand and a tablespoonful or 2 of dirt and vermiculite or pearlite. I use one or 1 and a half-inch cutting. You test the soil by wetting it. Stick cutting in the soil if it comes up muddy put more vermiculite in it or sand. When it comes up clear of dirt it's perfect. Cutting won't rot. You first will get new growth on each side. Cut them off and plant them. Stick original cutting back in the soil. You will get 2 more growths to replant. Repeat and you will get one more. An eight-inch leaf will give you 25 - 40 new plants. Don't forget to water them sparingly once a week.
I like the angle cut idea so I won't forget which end and also it's easier to push into the soil.
@@EasyGardening what if we propagate in water, it ll lose ???

Thank you for this great presentation, can I use soil instead of sand?
Yes you can!

Hello nice video, at what point or how big should I let the baby's get before I separate it from mom. Thanks.👍🏾
The babies (pups) will attach at the cuttings forever. Don't separate them on this propagation method
💚💚💚
Thank you

Great this video.^^

hi may i check just place in shaded/dark area totally no sunlight? and how often to water these.. thanks!
We may place it in a shaded or totally dark area. The main principle is not to place it under direct sun light. Just keep the moisture of the growth medium. Once a week is enough
Does this method also work for the thicker leaved slower growing varieties?
Yes it does. This propagation method works to all varieties of snake plant.
Best to propagate by separating at the base of the plant for this variety so as not to lose its variegation.
Yes it's better to do, but it needs longer time
Rahmat👍👍👍🌹
Thank you
Thanks for the video!May I know why the plant needed to be cut like that? Can I just cut it straight?
Yes of course. It's just an art of cutting. The results will be the same.
ohhh ic..thanks a lot! keep up the great work!
Thanks for supporting. Sorry for the late reply
how often and how much do you water after placing the cuttings on sand?

How days before having roots
It's around 3 weeks
wha kind of sand did you use?
I don't really know what kind of sand it is. But it's just common sand that available in our area.
After how many days we should water it
Twice a week is enough
Did they lose variegation after producing pups? Incomplete video.
Yes they will lose the yellow edges. No more variegated.
@@EasyGardening Use the table in this link (mrec.ifas.ufl.edu/foliage/folnotes/sansevie.htm ) to know which snake plants shouldn't be propagated by leaf cuttings (i.e. they lose variegation). You most likely have the laurentii or futura variety. You don't leaf propagate these varieties unless your goal is to get the reverted snake plant.
Is there a specific type of sand to use and where do you purchase it?
It's a kind of river sand in my region. You may find any kind of sand. It will work as well I think
What is that growth medium
It's sands
