I usually run longer leaders due to running primarily mono. I try keeping the clark spoon further away from the planer and it helps keep them (Spanish) and the kings from focusing on the planer. I lost a few running less than 12' leaders. I tried one technique where you loop knot to the clark spoon with 25#-30# mono, run 8-12' to a swivel, then another 8-12' of 50# mono to a coastal lock swivel to hook into the planers. I do run 10' leaders on ones I hook behind trolling lures. I like your storage spools. I have been using empty line spools and ran out. One guy here in Destin showed me how he takes a large pool noodle with push pins and wraps his leaders and spanish trees around it, putting a push pin in the swivel. a smaller pool noodle fits inside of it tightly and holds all the extra push pins. I agree about not using wire on these lures. I've lost more clark spoons to dolphins eating the spanish, than by them biting it off.
Aye awesome video! 🔥 Typically when the Spanish mackerel make their way up into the bay, me and my dad use Hopkins spoons and cast them into the blitzing rockfish and just reel it in as fast as possible. It works at getting past the dinky rockfish and getting onto the big Spanish macs 🤙🏻
Awesome just bought a mackel tree and some Clark spoons I don't troll I fish piers and verticle move it because I'm in a wheelchair and can't work it like most because height of railing
Yeah no problem thanks for checking out the channel. I believe my grandfather made them out of some wood trim he had left over from some project. Then he just cut notches in it
I’m in sunset beach right now fishing and the bite is surprisingly good for mid summer a lot of small founder (by catch) tons of bluefish and a few trout.

Ahhhh i gotcha. Good luck!
Thanks for taking time to make this video. Where did you source the leader keepers? I like those better than the reels.
