Just got my first job as a CO at 19, got the job to help me build a career into law enforcement when I’m 21. Been watching a lot of your videos to try and help me!!
Awesome man! Congrats! Be well, stay sharp and it's a great way to get your foot in the door. I've never worked in a jail or prison but I'm going to say patrol is much better (when the time comes)! HA! Thanks for commenting and let me know if you have any questions.
I chose Timberland PRO Valor 8”, and glad I did. I couldn’t find a lot of tactical boot reviews at the time, but knew all my criteria. Anyway, they are light weight, heavy duty, waterproof, anti-biologic, and comfortable. You’re absolutely right about the socks. If the boot is good and the socks suck, it’s not a good experience. I have found through years of construction, farm work, hunting, outdoors, ...that it is tough to find waterproof and breathable in a pair of boots, but the right socks make the difference. 👍
For me, the 5.11 ATAC 8” Version 1 was all I wore when I was in LE. I wore them through the police academy, the corrections academy, and 3 years working the jail. I wore them a size bigger and they never wore-out or broke-down on me, even the glue that holds them together never failed. They’re lightweight to where foot pursuits weren’t an issue, and gave me NO ankle issues or calf stiffness like the Rocky’s I tried before them,
That 5.11 model was very first police boot I wore in '07. I'm sure some modifications since, but overall, same boot. Yes, they were durable and not that bad with comfort...but when I tried the Valsetz, they felt better on my feet. It obviously boils down to personal preference, but I can definitely say if I worked at a place that didn't allow the valsetz, the 5.11's would be a good plan B.
Thanks for commenting. I’ve been out of the career for a few years now (hard to believe). Under Armour still makes the Valsetz and they have changed a bit in design but I bet they are still just as comfortable
My favorite boots of all time are the under armour Alegent. They work so damn well for chases. But they discontinued them awhile back and all I want is a pair in my size
My agency was vague with there requirements for boots when I got hired, the only thing they said was leather and able to polish. Luckily when I got the full policy the UA Valsetz were approved in the policy.. down side was I bought some Danner Arcadias which are expensive!
Great video! I personally rotate between two pairs of boots, the Valsetz and a pair of Danner Acadias for really bad weather. I just recently purchased the newest version of the Valsetz called the Micro G. I think they’re even more comfortable! They don’t look as tacticool but check them out whenever your current pair wears out!
I have Timberland and Dr Martens, and I hate them, hurt my feet so much. Are those boots comfy? I also have adidas Ultraboost, are they the same level of comfy as ultraboost?
Is there a easy way to shine them? I'm in the academy now and got smoked this morning for not having them shiny enough. I put Kiwi Shoe polish on the toe then applied clear coat nail polish. It lasts for maybe 2 hours before it starts to crack when walking in them. If anyone has a suggestion it would be much appreciated for me and my BLE class! haha
Nail polish can lead to cracking if I’m not mistaken. Damp rag, into the polish, then rub circular pattern on the boot over and over and over until a shine, and then hold a light up to it to warm and shine up that polish. That’s what we did in the Marines. It takes time, but better than getting smoked. Then again sometimes you can still do it right and you’re still wrong, they need to keep disciplining 😄
I need new boots. Mine suck, are falling apart and I work 80 hours a week in them non stop. But I can't find this kind in my size also I don't know if it's worth the money if I have to replace them all the time.
A Captain got onto me one time for wearing white socks under the black socks. I may or may not have ignored it and continued to wear white under black. 😀
id rather a great boot i have to replace every 3 years than a crappy leather boot that will last forever . it isnt 1920 where people buy one pair for life . the under armour are great . not great waterproofing but the waterproof options are good and not too sweaty
How are they on wet surfaces. I had a pair of under armor boots a few years ago and I busted my ass 3 times in 3 weeks before I turned them in. I don’t know what type they were I just know they were under armor and now I’m skeptical about buying a pair.
Good morning Andrew, I wore the Valsetz even during the K9 days running tracks behind the dog on all kinds of surfaces, even wet surfaces, and having a hard time on the wet surfaces doesn't come to mind at all. Now on a wet wooden front porch or deck, yes, slipped twice, once while walking down the wooden and wet stairs and busted my butt with nobody around to laugh at me except me laugh at me LOL, and then during an arrest that ended up being a use of force in which me, the suspect, and the other officer all slipped! So maybe it wasn't just because of the Valsetz!
@@The10CodeMindset thank you for the fast reply. I also fell during a fight and I was lucky enough to have a good enough grip where I brought him down with me. This was on wet grass. That was the final straw before I put them back on the equipment guys desk. They were comfortable but maybe I’m just a clumsy person.
Thank goodness you brought the suspect down with you during the slip! Gosh Murphy's Law dislikes cops, of course there's the slips, and the trips on foot chases too! AH! Be safe, stay well, and do great!
So basicly they are not durable at all, better pay 2 or 3 times the price and get comfy and durable shoes which will stand with you for 5 years. I got my "Magnum Viper Pro 8.0 Leather Waterproof" for 100€ use it for last 4 year 12h. I just look for a new shoes becasue sole is flat, like well used tyre.
@@The10CodeMindset me personally I had the Nike SFB gen 1 at the time I was on the swat team or CERT team at the prison I worked at and they issued us 5.11 tac boots but the were heavy and bulky so I bought the Nike SFB gen 1 and they are literally the best boots I ever had, lightweight and very durable and I put them through hell, the only issue I had with them is that I couldn’t really keep a shine on them longer than maybe 2 days 😂 no matter what I did I could not get the shine to stay but overall best boots I ever had and I highly suggest anyone to try them if you have the extra cash they are about 165 and they have newer and better ones now

The TCK socks have been a massive solution for my feet. Got sick and tired of wearing 2 pairs of socks.
Got the Lowa Zephyr GTX Mids TF coming tomorrow and just ordered the socks. Pumped!
Nice!

Do you still wear this exact model or have you updated your shoes?

Always loved my valsetz during dry days but loved my Nike Combat during rainy days.
One time I did the classic plastic bags on my feet when it started raining and I was caught directing traffic wearing Valsetz
My agency was vague with there requirements for boots when I got hired, the only thing they said was leather and able to polish. Luckily when I got the full policy the UA Valsetz were approved in the policy.. down side was I bought some Danner Arcadias which are expensive!
Yeah they are, and heavy! In my opinion. Sell them, and get some Valsetz 😃
Under Armour makes a similar leather boot called the stellar.....(for depts that specify leather)
@@michaelpalm2210 Thanks for mentioning that kind of boot. Under Armour really has added to their boot options since I made this video.
I love the Arcadia (heavy sole is amazing for corrections where you walk and stand on concrete all day). You're right they are a pretty penny though
If i want a pair of boots that are taller like military issued boots. Im more used to the ankle support.
Understood, and I think Under Armour’s Stellar boot style has more of the taller style for that added ankle support

Cool! Yeah, as you can see I'm going to need a new pair soon so I will definitely check out the Micro G. Thanks!
That was a funny treat the laugh lol do it again
The slow motion laugh is in some other videos but I’ll make sure to keep it going for future videos. 😄
I have Timberland and Dr Martens, and I hate them, hurt my feet so much. Are those boots comfy? I also have adidas Ultraboost, are they the same level of comfy as ultraboost?
Thanks for commenting. I’m not sure how comfortable the the Adidas boots are. But I always found comfort and lightness in the Valsetz. 👍👍
I’m a ultraboost guy myself Have you found a boot as comfortable yet?
Will these take a shine to them. My department require us to shine our boots/shoes.
Ah darn, they’re not meant really to be shined and there are fabric parts that can’t be shined at all. The waterproof version can be shined though
Is there a easy way to shine them? I'm in the academy now and got smoked this morning for not having them shiny enough. I put Kiwi Shoe polish on the toe then applied clear coat nail polish. Got my TCK socks in today! Awesome! 👍

That laugh was so funny lol
🤣 Finally, someone who appreciates my corny humor!! Thank you 😄
Reebok has some that are lighter and can polish the toe.
Lighter?! Do elaborate. Please send a link.

80 hours a week??? 😳
I have been getting about 9 months to a year out of my Valsetz over the last several years.
I have the lop around shirt stays. They chafe my leg hair like crazy
I get it. Haven’t had hair on the outside of my calves for years because of the stirrup shirt stays, but comfort over hair😂
Good for correction deputy’s?
I would definitely say so!
White socks in the Marine Corps... I never liked Regs neither lol
A Captain got onto me one time for wearing white socks under the black socks. I may or may not have ignored it and continued to wear white under black. 😀

Wish my department would let me use the Valsets......only poloshable boots
Fire the Chief! Ok maybe not that, but needless to say, disagree with that policy! Are the Under Armour Stellar Tac boots allowed?
@@The10CodeMindset Would you say that Stellar Tacs are the best boots for departments that only allow us polish-able boots?
@@noahknight4957 Short answer, yes, with 5.11's a close second.

Definitely one of the downsides, not as durable but light as could be and comfortable.
I think my department will have a problem with the under armor logo visible.
Really?! Dang. That stinks.
sadly i need patent leather boots.
Aaaahhhh man!!
Underarmour does make a leather version but I have never worn them, so cannot give honest review.
Cmon man, you didn’t want to wear the shirt stays that attach to your socks and then have one shot gun blast you backside during a foot chase?
Hahahahaha! Nope! For that reason! When mine pop, always a downward trajectory
A lot of these moisture wicking socks are 👎🏼
Our bodies should be dressed in 100% cotton 👍🏼
I wore white socks under black socks for the longest time. I get your point 💯 but much to my surprise these TCK socks have been awesome.
I wear walmart boots 😂
Right on! 👍
Nike boots are better
