AMK love to sing and perform together with other singers or bands. Here it is Giant Rooks, another German band. Wait until you have listened to their other covers, they are always great. I always enjoy your smile when you listen to Henning singing. Looking forward to more reactions ❤
Thank you so much! ❤ I went ahead and checked out Giant Rooks as well, because their lead singer sounds awesome as well as the entire band. The smile simply happens, the man and his voice both have charisma. ❤
Here are some basic facts and names for this video: we have two German bands here: In the first room we have AnnenMayKantereit (AMK) from Cologne, Germany, with singer Henning May, Christopher Annen (guitar), Severin Kantereit (percussion) - that's where the strange name of the band comes from, it's just the surnames of the three founding members: Annen, May and Kantereit -, Malte Huck (bass) and Ferdinand Schwarz (trumpet); Ferdinand, one of the best young German Jazz trompeters, is no "official" bandmember, but he comes from the same high school (Gymnasium) in Cologne as Annen, May and Kantereit (although he is a lttle younger than them) and he enriches numerous videos and live performances by AnnenMayKantereit with trumpet and flugelhorn and is - as far as I know - also responsible for the excellent arrangements in AMK's “Proberaum Sessions”. In the second room we have Giant Rooks from Hamm, Germany, with Frederic Rabe (the other singer), Finn Schwieters (guitar), Finn Thomas (drums), Jonathan Wischniowski (e-piano) and Luca Göttner (the Elvis lookalike on bass). Later Giant Rooks are joined by the AMK people, who come into the room without their instruments - except for Ferdinand, who takes his trumpet with him. The two bands toured together in early 2019, and the video was made during that tour by Lenny Rothenberg and Marius Möller. Henning May was 27, when the video was made, but rather looks like 17 in it, doesn't he? 2011, immediately after graduating from high school, AnnenMayKantereit began as buskers, playing on the streets of their home town Cologne: th-cam.com/video/bJ0OlnolzKo/w-d-xo.html Last year they returned to Cologne (two of the members live in Berlin by now) and played to a sold-out stadium in front of 41,000 people: th-cam.com/video/EblZVPNsO8I/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for sharing all this! 😊 Oh, and when I first saw Henning in Barfuß Am Klavier I kept calling him "kid", so yeah, quite a baby face 🤣 Oh, my, that baby and his singing ABOUT the baby. Such a great video of their beginnings. Thank you again!
@@AleksReacts If you like some more “baby Henning”: Here is the earliest video of Henning May that can be found on TH-cam. He is obviously still a shy teenager with “baby fat” on his face (he has recently become very thin and emaciated), cute as a puppy, improvising freely with his guitar in the streets of Cologne: th-cam.com/video/ohjtJem1E2g/w-d-xo.html
Thank you! I hope you won't hold it against me if I watch this one on my own. I found him very cute, charming and with a very strange voice for a "kid".
I've come to love these guys, and I listen to them regularly now. Thanks to your channel :) But this particular song I think I heard them sing 3-4 years ago and I had forgotten all about them when I saw them again on your channel, so I decided I'd dig deeper. Becoming a fan, lol Fun reaction Aleks ❤
Thank you so much, Tolun! I am very glad to hear that! ❤❤❤ I'm not allowing myself to hear more until I actually do reactions, but I'm still in love with the first one (Barfuß Am Klavier) when I first heard Henning's voice. My pace in hearing new stuff will be slower, but I'm a fan already, too! They seem to calm and relax me, even when the song is not too happy really. 😉
I love your „melting into oneanother“ metaphor. I have never heard that after watching… all of the reactions(?😊) to this video. And I love that there is one word in the serbian language to describe it!
Yes dear Aleks, I knew you would love this. Suzanne Vega's original version was lovely, but this rendition for me is in another league. When I heard this years ago I was singing it for days.on end , I couldn't get it out of my head. And tyhat brings me to another AMK cooperation, this toie with Parcels. The cover Can't get you out of my head. And also, @Hundhammer is right with his proposition of Valerie with AMK and Natalie Findlay. She sounds so adorable, and Henning is helping with the start. It is also kind of a jamsession. Really lovely, not always perfect pitch, but man what a vibe. And I know that Your song covered by Henning is on your list. Thank you for this raction. Loved to see you enjoy it. Sometimes you don't analize, but surrender to the image and sound of people really loving to come together and bring a song alive in a new way. With heart and soul. Stay safe and healthy. Greatings from ❌❌❌, and untill the next time ♥♥♥
Thank you so much, Gerda! I do love the original, but this one easily matches it or rather, it doesn't really sound like it. In my head, it's not the same song really. Just sounds kind of familiar... That's why I said "it really is a cover". Since it's very enjoyable, I thought overthinking would ruin it and also, it kind of worked on me like a snuggly blanket, so I wasn't really in the mood for any analysis... Not everything requires a brain, some things just need a heart. ❤❤❤ P.S. got both down on the list. 😉
@@AleksReacts I agree, sometimes you rest your brain and just open your heart. And when this musical gift reaches your heart it makes you relax. Moving your head with switched of brain and maybe even your body on the waves of the music. And for me their smiles and joy multiply that feeling. And I keep smiling without knowing it. That's pure joy. And just as you mentioned, relaxing me to the core. Not thinking, only feeling.
That was the exact effect it had on me - I kept trying to "keep my cool", but it just made me smile without knowing it. Actually, just got an explanation as to why it has that effect on me (in the comments by @continentzero7572. I really had no idea why it works that way. The visuals of editing and fading are so seamlessly done, very entertaining Aleks, and all so well harmonized what’s there not to love. A jazzy, Do Wop mix! ❤ do not go into complicated analytics
Hi Aleks, actually this was the very first video on which I saw AMK (and Giant Rooks), must have been about 2-3 years ago... At first I even couldn't believe they are German... As I don't listen to the radio and they weren't on the radar of any of my close friends with whom I might talk music I was completely unaware of them alltough they have been around for a while... But when I wanted to tell my younger co workers about them it turned out they all knew them, they said I must have been living under a rock - meanwhile they are filling huge arenas here in Germany. I never saw them live, but if they should happen tp play somewhere around here I might go, must be fun to watch them live... Another English cover by them I really like is Amy's Valerie, another live recording (this time at a public concert), and here Henning has a female guest duet partner, who's obviously just jumping in for that song, she goes by the name of Natalie Findlay. She's a bit nervous at the beginning and wants to start over, but then she's really getting into it, and Henning is killing it anyway, also he's playing the keys again at the beginning... else it's the core band (guitar, bass, drums) plus a guy who plays a wonderful Flügelhorn. It's another older recording (7 years old), but definitely worth a listen, really love Natalie here as well, though I never bothered to find out what else she's been doing, for me she's AMK's Valerie... Have a nice evening and enjoy it, peace out, there's a new reaction to RAYE at the EMAs, I have to run... ciao piccolina! Lots of love from the guy under a rock...
No one mentioned Valerie, and I love that song! I'll be sure to listen to that one. Seems like my rock is bigger, as it took me 2-3 years longer to discover them. 🤣 Enjoy Raye, without me for now, but soon hopefully with me. ❤❤❤
@@AleksReacts Sure will do, the thumbnail has "World Class" on it, and the title asks "best live vocals ever?" - seems the guy enjoyed it, and he's even older than me... will certainly be fun to watch... see you on the next one... Peace out!
@@AleksReacts Well, why write the obvious, it's a bit like reviewing J.S.Bach and writing "a great composer" ... Great reaction 🙂 I also liked this a lot. New to ME as well. Will have to see if I can find more from Giant Rooks as well now. Have a great weekend, Aleks 🙂 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥
This type of MV, seemingly spontaneous, is in reality cinematographically crafted like lace. Nothing is more virtuosic than manufacturing spontaneity. As for the jazzy music, even though it remains pleasant to my ears, I will always prefer actual jazz. Therefore, I will not compare these charming young people to Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Louis Armstrong, Dinah Washington, Nat King Cole or Nina Simone... In short, it was cute, but I fail to understand what made it relaxing. Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz, Bill Evans, Chet Baker or Pat Metheny have all created relaxing jazz. But this Tom's Diner was nice, cool or pleasant if you will, yet why "relaxing" ?
Glad you liked it, though not loved it (which is totally ok). 😉 I don't know why relaxing, it just relaxed me, physically and mentally. Relaxing jazz actually has the opposite effect on me. It un-relaxes me and simply does not work. Quite a personal and somewhat inexplicable thing for me...
@@AleksReacts This is what is called a paradoxical effect. There are people whom coffee makes sleepy or whom linden tea excites. Regarding relaxing music, it can be like asking someone who is getting worked up to calm down... it only makes them more irritated. In music therapy, one can only calm someone through successive stages. First, a rather rhythmic piece, then something more neutral, then gradually something calmer until reaching sounds without emotional charge. But putting an adagio in the ears of someone who has just spent an hour in traffic and congestion... nicht gut !
Ah, so there is an explanation for my quirky feeling around this. Might be just a very extroverted and constantly thinking about 5 things at the same time... They are kind of doing 5 things at the same time, so it allows me full immersion and thus, relaxation. I'm just guessing based on what you described and the fact that I am fine with traffic, noise and generally loud everything.
