    We purchased the barracuda g3,and we love it. It goes up the walls and moves around the pool nice and fast. Another reason we love , nice and light , if we ever need to repair getting parts are easy to find. Thanks Kenny for the recommendation of the barracuda! There are so many to choose from it can get confusing. we didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars, barracuda was in our price range. Thank you Kenny!

    i became a pool owner 3 years ago and im surprised i dont see these in more pools. the previous owner had one of these so thats all we use. It keeps the pool super clean, moves fast, up walls even on stairs. Best thing about it, pretty much any of the parts that can fail are super cheap to replace and even easier to do.

    Last year I purchased "The Pool Cleaner" Phoenix model. No problems whatsoever. Years prior, I was buying Haywards that require frequent parts replacement (shoes, bearings, etc.) Total money grab! If I need a new one in upcoming years, I'll definitely look into the Baracuda you've mentioned here. Thanks for another helpful video.

      The Pool Cleaner would be my runner up for best vacuum. More moving parts than the Barracuda G3 but a really good vacuum.
      I also agree, the Hayward (Navigator and similar offerings) is a money grab (pit) for sure. One of my least favorites.

      I agree with you, the Barracuda G3 is fantastic. I had mine for many years until the body came apart. I switched to a Jacuzzi brand which did okay but has now failed. Now, I’m onto a Vingli vacuum. All three were hooked to skimmer and worked fine, but I noticed my filter would soon draw in air. Even though all hose connections were tightly fitted. Several times a day I had to open the release valve. If I disconnected the vac, no air in filter. Any idea what would cause this?

    It's unfortunate that after two years, inflation has driven the price up to $350. But I'm in the market fir my first suction pool cleaner and I think I'm going with this one. My pool store recommended your runner up, but I can't justify the $600 price plus hoses. I also want something with bottom contact to loosen debris as the Hayward Pool Cleaner only has suction similar to a manual wheeled vacuum.

    I have the G3 and the issue I have with it is the cleaner gets stuck in corners of the pool. So I have to constantly keep an eye on it to make sure it’s not stuck and doing it’s job. Yes, I have all parts installed to help keep it from getting stuck in corners(finned disc/wheel deflector) but still does.

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try directing the return ports of your pool down. I've found that often if the return ports face more level, upward or to one side or the other (and water feature if running as well) it creates a current that affect the hoses and sometimes can cause the vac to stick in a corner or at a step. Try that first then possibly try using the vac w/out the wheel deflector) I have two pools that the wheel deflector actually caused the vac to stick in a corner.

    Does it do well sucking up pine needles and dirt? Do you recommend adding the Zodiac leaf catcher?

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does, I had a pool that had a ton of pine needles (what a mess) but it worked great on it and YES absolutely if you have an excessive amount of leaves etc an inline leaf catcher is a must. But get the large one (Hayward also makes one) with a mesh fabric catcher the plastic ones don't work well as smaller things like pine needles pass right through defeating the purpose.

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you can, if you don’t have a dedicated suction line, you can convert your skimmer to a vacuum using a Pentair vac mate. I did a video on installing vacuum using a vacmate, look it up on my channel and it will help you know how to do it as far as the in-line catcher you can absolutely use that. cool thing about the Pentair is that it allows the skimmer basket that’s part of the unit to catch the leaves and debris.

    How can you change the pattern the barracuda does?

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  ปีที่แล้ว

      You really can’t, like most suction side vacuums they are called “random pattern”. Meaning they go where they want to. One thing that I do recommend people do is set to returns on their pools two point down as opposed to up or street or in an angle side to side because that will actually push the vacuum hoses and that’s mess up the overall coverage of the vacuum. But I found in a typical pool, running the pump, proper amount of time on high speed, if you have a variable, speed pump, and angle in your return, jets down, will allow the vacuum to get pretty much all of the pool. It might miss a very small corner which you can just brush on a weekly basis. Most of my clients who have that vacuum, get thorough, vacuuming from it.

  • @madmonkey8141
    @madmonkey8141 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My trouble with these g3 vacs is they tend to clean in a pattern, leaving triangles of dirt where the cleaner didn’t get to. I prefer 2wheel or 4wheel cleaner

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's usually due to the "current" of your pool water when the pump is running. Directing the return ports down takes care of it.

  • @absolutelyflying
    @absolutelyflying 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What’s the best electrical plug pool cleaner? Less cleaning of the d.e. pool filter system. Have the 4 wheel pool cleaner and less than 6 month not working like it should. All parts look good like new. Just stops. Worked really well the first few couple of months. Warranty only covers parts. The service is more than 25% value of the cleaner.

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All suction side random action pool vacuums have the potential to leave areas and vacuumed. Typically the best way to ensure the vacuum gets around to most every part of the pool is to make sure your suction is not too high and not too low and make sure your pump runs long enough at a speed that will actually move the vacuum I’d suggest about six or seven hours each day. And then lastly it’s best to point your return jets down so that they don’t create a current on the surface that pulls the hoses around. Also if you have a water feature like a waterfall or an overflow of a spa that can also create a current that will divert your vacuum from getting completely around the entire pool.

    I just found this video after remodeling my pool in Dallas TX. I converted to a suction side and chose the mx8 based on reviews I had found. I have a pecan tree that constantly drops pecans into the pool and plugs up my mx8 I feel like the g3 would have a similar issue do you have a recommendation for a suction side that may have a bin before the drive unit? Aside from the pecans stopping the drive unit I love how well the scrubbers work on the mx8 I should add I gave my suction line a dedicated pump and filter so that it can run independently from the main pump (and run while the jacuzzi is running)

    I've had this thing for 3 months now and for 2.5 monthis it was near perfect; now it gets stuck twice a day at the suction inlet. It climbs the wall, tries to go over the hose, and then gets hung up on the hose. Have any solution to this? I can't figue out why this has started happened, or why it never happened before. It also goes to the top of the walls; sometimes a big too high

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That happens sometime with this vac. Two things. #1. Adjust the suction so it doesn't climb the wall so high and #2 You can also add an additional to the hose to help.
      One more thing is to either use the "step ring" or remove it. Sometimes having it on causes it to hang up or hanging it off does as well. You have to sort of try both and see what works best.

    G3 replacement diaphragms keep tearing within minutes of using. Any suggestions?

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A couple possibilities. First, it could be that the latex of the diaphragm is old or decay. You have to store those a cool dry place away from the elements. So it could be the age of the diaphragm. It also could be that you have too much suction going to the vacuum and that pressing it and tearing it.
      Lastly, it could be a poor quality product that you purchased. I might suggest contacting the place you got them from asking for a refund and then look for another source.

      I’ve only had a very limited experience with robot cleaners. The ones that my clients had weren’t bad, but they were quite large had to be taken out of the pool after use and then put back in and stored on a cart and they also didn’t seem to vacuum up dirt as much as they vacuumed up things like leaves and other debris.

      I have had it happen on two occasions out of several hundred pools that I’ve serviced over the years that have them. Typically when it happens to get stuck on a floor drain cover it’s because the floor drain cover has a certain lip or opening that the disc gets caught in.

      If your vacuum is on the return side of the pump then you couldn't do it with that. Even if you were able to attach the barracuda to the suction side of that booster pump the dirt would just return back into the pool un filtered since it's not going through the filter. • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't really like any robotic cleaners. If you have a suction side vacuum coming out of the pool then you have too much suction going to it. A simple adjustment of the suction on your system should stop that from happening.
      Robotic cleaners have their draw backs. First they can't be left in the pool. So you have to put it in and take it out every time you clean the pool. Second a lot of them don't vacuum up finer dirt as well as a suction side vacuum.
      Those are my thoughts. Sorry I can't recommend any robotic vac for you.

I've had a couple clients have the same problem where there was not enough suction for the vac WHILE the suction valve wouldn't open or close completely. We ended up opening up the valve and found accumulated debris clogging the valve.
      You may also want to check the suction line for the vacuum. Sometimes that gets clogged (it would have to be "blown out" some way). Also check to make sure all your hoses are good and no cracks in them.
      But what you're describing leads me to believe something's clogging/jamming up that suction valve.
      Keep me posted

    Can you clear something up for me. I just found you on TH-cam yesterday and have been binge watching your videos. About two years ago you did a vacuum comparison video and said that the barracuda G3 used to be your favorite but now it’s hard to find parts because they’re discontinuing it. In that same video you said that the the pool cleaner was your favorite…..Now that I’ve come to this video which you made only a year ago now you’re back to saying that the barracuda G3 is your favorite. Can you clear this up did they start making it again where parts are easily found. Thanks

      Yes and I believe I said in the more recent G3 video that I was mistaken about the G3 being discontinued so I recanted about The Pool Cleaner and said that my favorite vacuum for the money and reliability and ease of use is still the G3. The Pool Cleaner is my second choice (but a far second) as when it starts to have issues it has a lot of costly parts that sometimes need replacing over time.

    Does this work in a pool with a deep end (8 ft)? I need something easy and reliable. You said you can leave this in pool 24/7. I don’t want to have to remove it at all, so that’s good!

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had several pools that have deep ends like you're describing and the G3 has worked wonderfully. Another one that I think is pretty good (although has a lot of moving parts but I've found it to hold up for about 3-4 years before it falls apart and begins to nickel and dime you is The Pool Cleaner 4 Wheel Version which is for pools with deep ends (NOT the 2 wheel version which is for play pools). I have a few clients who have that one and it works well BUT once things start to break down in that one it is more difficult to repair and there are FAR more moving parts on that one.

      @@PoolSchooler thanks for the reply. I have another question that may be silly. If the cleaner is attached to the skimmer (and I’m assuming I will need to turn off the other skimmer to get enough suction), how will the top of the water stay clean? Also, can the g3 pick up regular sized leaves, debris, etc. without the diaphragm getting jammed? I am looking for a very easy cleaner that I don’t have to babysit. Let me know if you think the g3 will work for what I want. I was also going to get the zodiac leaf basket. Thanks so much!

      @@melissa4455 you will need a VacMate skimmer attachment here’s a link to a video I did on that. th-cam.com/video/eagXAKxN8zM/w-d-xo.html
      And regarding the G3 being able to pick up regular size leaves etc. Yes I have found it works quite well. Although as I said in the video sharp objects like rocks and things can tear of the diaphragm and, to be fair every vacuum has its limits on how much debris and leaves it can handle. But it’s been my experience that it handles as much if not more than the typical ones. But if you have a massive amount of leaves in your pool no vacuums gonna be able to do that you should net it out first or manually vacuum it

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@melissa4455 So you have two skimmers sharing the same suction. Yes, you'll definitly have to block off the other skimmer to make sure you get adequate suction to the one you're using for the vacuum. There is a little bit of a trade off when you attach a vacuum to your skimmer port and that is a reduction in being able to "skim" the surface of the pool. BUT Pentair makes a product called a VacMate that allows you to convert your skimmer to a vac while still maintaining some skimmer ability. I did a video on it and I think you may want to look into installing one in your pool. Here's that link: th-cam.com/video/eagXAKxN8zM/w-d-xo.html

    I live in Queencreek AZ we had a huge dust storm last night from a blue shiny pool now its all black I cant see the bottom. I was looking for a good vacuum that would suck those dust. I dont think my pool got a side suction aside from the skimmer. Do you think the Dolphin E10 would do the job?

      @@ponsco Yeah, we experienced that too. It was a big one and then we had another one. Two in a row. Such is living in Arizona. When we have a big dust storm like that it's a mess for sure. If your cartridge filter is clean (maybe a few months after being cleaned) then the best thing to do is manually vacuum it. Here's a video on how to do that: th-cam.com/video/x9WaMUzSO-8/w-d-xo.html
      It's gonna take a suction side vacuum awhile to do the same job. Manually vacuuming is the best way to clean it up quickly. I'm not a fan of robotic vacuums and typically they can't handle that much dirt.
      ALSO if there's a ton of dirt you may find that it will start blowing back into your pool when vacuuming or you may begin to lose suction on the vacuum. That is an indicator that your cartridges are overloaded and you'll need to clean them. It's a bummer and a pain but it's par for the course of living in AZ.

What I would suggest is do a Google search and puncheon barracuda G3 Amazon and you should be able to find it.
      What are the reasons I don’t put specific links like that in my videos or in my description is because I don’t want viewers to think that somehow I’m getting some sort of kickback financially from endorsing a product. Understandable, and if that is cause for you to not purchase one, that's cause enough. We live, backed up to a busy street and it has sometimes been difficult with the noise but we have a huge backyard (for our area) and live at the end of a culdesac so, for us the trade off was worth it. The Kreepy Krawley with it's "hammer" is even louder. So I can appreciate your not wanting one. AND THAT"S WHY my second "best" pool vacuum is "The Pool Cleaner". Just got one of these things and first off the instructions suck!!!! They don’t tell you what to do with all the parts or what they do ect. Second the suction is almost non existent! Yes I changed the settings and everything, just seems to barely creep around and do nothing! I could clean the pool faster with the regular hose vacuum! Think I will most likely send it back!

    • @PoolSchooler
      @PoolSchooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do agree the instructions are a bit tricky. Not very easy to understand. But, the suction issue has nothing to do with the vacuum unless the hoses are not put together correctly and firmly. Typically a lack of suction has something to do with either the suction from the valves or you might want to check your pump impeller and see if it’s clogged. That’s one of the number one reasons for a lack of suction.

      Sorry to hear that. Three things that could be causing it. 1. Too much suction (reduce it a bit and see if that helps). 2. Your pool returns are disrupting the vac's movement. Point ALL of your pool returns down (if they're pointed upward they disturb the surface of the water and push the vac hoses around which can cause what you're talking about). 3. bad hoses. I've had one client we put one in for and the hoses seemed to just automatically bend and coil right from the get go no matter what we did. We replaced all the hoses and it fixed the problem.
      Hope this is helpful,
