i don't know if you're still on the youtubes, but so did i. i had all but forgotten about this show, until on one of my youtubes journeys i found the show madame's place staring the great wayland flowers. flashing back, i started thinking about my childhood in the 70's and realized so many of my favorite comedians were gay dudes and nobody made any kind of deal out of it. anyway, random. i'm glad i found this show.
I only came to hear him sing. Not only was he a remarkable showman in comedy but, in my opinion, buddy had extraordinary vocal talent. I used to love hear him sing. Unfortunately i seem not to be able to get him singing the full song, but this is by far the closest we have.
I remember watching this every Saturday night with my Family when I was 6 years old. My Dad used to love this show. I liked it when Rip Taylor would sometimes grab that envelope and say "Give me that!! I hate that guy." Good times.
Created by the great Chuck Barris, this was always fun to watch. Barris had the touch of gold. Everything Barris created was a winner: $1.98 Beauty Show, The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game and most famously The Gong Show. R.I.P. Chuck
Twelve gorgeous, stunning ladies looking magnificent in their bathing suits at the 1:11 mark, six more ladies looking fabulous in their bathing suits at the 18:56 mark, this is a super 1978 $1.98 Beauty Show treasured classic!
This is a late '78 episode of "The $1.98 Beauty Show" (a short-lived American TV series in weekly syndication) & it's a tribute to late host Rip Taylor. The three panelists competing on this episode are Jamie, Peter & Patty. 🇺🇲 🇺🇲
The shame of it is that you could never get away with this in today's world because everyone is so uptight and can't laugh at themselves or others....hate today's times!!
@@waynecolvard3804 People would want to kill Rip because he was gay and there were women Jordan Peterson didn't want to have sex with on the show. You're dumb.
I remember this show how can you not it's a one of a kind so to speak. A friend of mine reminded me of it one morning while out to breakfast and it brought me to this video, and ow I can't stop laughing.i love it.
.....as an old soul person for 1978, i forgot all about The $1.98 Beauty Show until I saw the commercial on Gane Show Network in 2002.. this is hilarious.
21:10 - Listen to Rip rip! From that low note way the hell up to that high note - - talk about chops! And not talking his sideburns. Too bad GSN didn't let him finish that bravo performance!!!
Yes it was. In our market in Philly, this would air at 7pm on Saturday night then "Gong" afterwards. This show used the same band and writers as "Gong" which gave it that same flavor.
Same musical director - the great Milton Delugg - and his incredible Band With A Thug, with a couple of extra sax players flanking Lanny Morgan in the front row.
And trumpet player Bobby Findley, brother to fellow trumpeter Chuck Findley, and drummer Mark Z. Stevens, guitarist Billy Neale and bassist Ray Neapolitan.
A white girl from South Gate, CA? That's how you know this show is old. (She had to have worked at either Ashton's, Ralph's, or Sav On) And another one from Lynwood...ha!
This show hit a nerve--not simply because it exploited women with real dreams but because it exposed the entire dog--eat-dog, chauvinistic exploitation practiced upon young women hopefuls--actors, musicians, models--by an entire industry.
one of the greatest shows ever. loved this as a kid

Love ❤️ watching that TV 📺 show
I absolutely loved watching this show way back in 1978. It was hilarious. They don't make them like this anymore.
It was a stupid show
This was one gem of a kooky 70's show.
I remember watching this with my parents back in the day. Gawd, those were great times!
My mom was a contestant on this back In the day. I miss those times
This show was the perfect one for Rip Taylor to host.
I remember this show as a kid. On Friday nights. When I ask people if they remember this, they look at me like I am crazy. Lol.
My mom and I loved this show, it was so hysterical. R.I.P. Rip

This is what a John Waters’ produced game show would be like.

I remember this show well, especially the theme song at the end! :)
I remember watching this every Saturday night with my Family when I was 6 years old. My Dad used to love this show. I liked it when Rip Taylor would sometimes grab that envelope and say "Give me that!! I hate that guy." Good times.
I didn't know he was still with us until recently. Major shock! R.I.P.
70’s were the best
Created by the great Chuck Barris, this was always fun to watch. Barris had the touch of gold. Everything Barris created was a winner: $1.98 Beauty Show, The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game and most famously The Gong Show.
R.I.P. Chuck
I Remembered Watching "The $1.98 Beauty Show!" (Syndication) From (1978-80) On WXON-TV 20 Detroit, Michigan In The Mid 1979!!!?
Twelve gorgeous, stunning ladies looking magnificent in their bathing suits at the 1:11 mark, six more ladies looking fabulous in their bathing suits at the 18:56 mark, this is a super 1978 $1.98 Beauty Show treasured classic!
Those were the times that you watched TV as a family and had only one television in the home
Wish there were more of these on youtube
I just watched this for the first time in 43 years!!!!!!! 22 minutes of my life gone. LOL!!!!!!!
Poor wording good 22 mins is what I think you mean ,
😂And you are all the better for it!

Yeah, because that's what it is.
That’s the problem!
Too much political correctness today. It makes me mad and sick to my stomach.
@@waynecolvard3804 People would want to kill Rip because he was gay and there were women Jordan Peterson didn't want to have sex with on the show. You're dumb.
Loved this 😘
I remember this as a kid it was so funny
Rip Taylor was a god among men...
I always thought Rip was the Wizard of Oz. Looks like him
omg me too...or did the voice of the guy at the door. LOL
That's funny me too
I'd love to see this whole series.
I remember this show how can you not it's a one of a kind so to speak. A friend of mine reminded me of it one morning while out to breakfast and it brought me to this video, and ow I can't stop laughing.i love it.
That's literally the Gong Show stage with the gong removed.
.....as an old soul person for 1978, i forgot all about The $1.98 Beauty Show until I saw the commercial on Gane Show Network in 2002.. this is hilarious.
Here's what really funny. The crown that was awarded to the winner. It made her look like the "The Statue of Liberty:" NO JOKE!!!
They built only 1 set for both shows
Judy Brookes should have won!!! :( :D Great memories of this and the Gong Show!
loved this!!
His singing was 😭
😆 I remember this show,,lolololo
he is a great host
Me and my mom watched this when I was little little. I couldn't remember the name I'm so glad I found it.
21:10 - Listen to Rip rip! From that low note way the hell up to that high note - - talk about chops! And not talking his sideburns. Too bad GSN didn't let him finish that bravo performance!!!
I have never seen this before in my life 😳 !
Judges: Jaime Lyn Bauer, Peter Lawford, Patty Andrews.
@Michael Swanson You mean a MYNAH bird? I only put the names in so they would be searchable.
Some of the talent competition performances were so bad I wish they could have been gonged but this is the wrong show.
Was this in syndication? The music makes me think of The Gong Show.
Yes it was. In our market in Philly, this would air at 7pm on Saturday night then "Gong" afterwards. This show used the same band and writers as "Gong" which gave it that same flavor.
And in Louisville, it aired every Wednesday night at 7:30 on WAVE 3, which is owned by Gray Television (which also owns WKYT) since 2019.
"Gong" and "$1.98" were both Chuck Barris shows.
What in tarnation is in the hairdresser's hair? Dryer sheets?
This had Gong Show DNA.
Growing up in the ‘70s was the sh*t. Free spirited women in tube tops and cut offs. That’s the America I want to remember.
Add 43 to each age! 3-20-2022
God Bless Rip Taylor.
Those vegetables that were given at the crowning moments were no longer edible.
This typifies the era.
It’s Big Shirley!
kid at 13.30 incredible
Rolling in the river...
He was so funny
Contestant #2 Can you sing any flatter??
At least she was a good sport about it. :)
19:33-19:36 Intro Clip
Looks like the set of the Lawrence welk show
was this the height of rip taylor's success?

19:32-19:36 was seen in the intro
i love waitresses
ROTFL
I read this lasted 2 seasonz
We used to be a real country...Look at what they took away from us.
Where's a gong when you need it??
The unknown comic stole it.
10x better than any of this shit on TV in 2024.
I remember watching this as a kid. I didn't even come close to getting the joke. The show made no sense to me.
they waa too cheap to round up?!?! 🤣😂🤣😂
Who’s more funnier on the Chuck Barris shows? Rip Taylor? Chuck? Bob Eubanks? Or Jim Lange?
A white girl from South Gate, CA? That's how you know this show is old. (She had to have worked at either Ashton's, Ralph's, or Sav On) And another one from Lynwood...ha!
Wait, IS THAT RADISH!
This show hit a nerve--not simply because it exploited women with real dreams but because it exposed the entire dog--eat-dog, chauvinistic exploitation practiced upon young women hopefuls--actors, musicians, models--by an entire industry.
Nancy Pelosi would of fit right in with her goofy self.F. A. C. T
All of those women are there by their own choice.
Get a life.
