Great review. Haters are always going to hate (that's their job). But I appreciate your honest, to the point review(s). I started watching your videos when I first joined the e-ink community 4 plus years ago. I watched you and Voja, learned about the rM2, ordered the rM2 and we all waited together to receive our devices. I fell in love with my rM2 and I just purchased the RPP (reMarkable Paper Pro) a week or so ago, watched you and Voja do your unboxing and first impressions' videos and I am anxiously waiting for my RPP to arrive! You keep us in the know about these devices and you're right...they are not for everyone. But the reMarkable devices work for me. Thanks.
I adore my reMarkable 2. I was going to wait to decide on buying this device...but I finally sprang for it. Call it a celebration of paying off my house. I don't know what I think of it yet, but I haven't seen anything in the negative videos that was bad enough to scare me off. And I know the 2 has been amazing! The next question will be what I will do with the two devices?
What they don’t realize is all that is negativity is bringing eyes to the device so while some have sent it back they didn’t plan to purchase with intentions on creating it, they wanted to not like it because honestly they counted rM out and the fact its bigger and in color is making them upset because they secretly want it or to keep it.
Great review. I received my Paper Pro two days ago, and as you mentioned. It is awesome. Some TH-cam influencers appear to be getting paid to push one product while bad-mouthing others. Notice that the brands they like are usually in the top 3 on their lists of top e-ink tablets.
Totally, totally agree with you. MY ONLY use case for this works great for me. I teach. I write my lesson on this and teach from it. The colors help me keep focused while i teach. I doing put my books on it. You said it perfectly, it's a wonderful writing tool.
You were one of the first people I watched back in the day. I got the remarkable 2 because I ignored your video. Yep, not proud to admit that. I needed a library book reader and not taker. So I returned it and got a Boox Note 3. Love it! As I watch this video, I still have the Note 3 but I have a remarkable paper pro on the way. I have a better understanding of my use case so I think I will keep this one. Now if supernote comes out with their 13 inch inside the 100 day return policy, that will make things tough. Keep bringing the clarity
Yep, love it and that is what I have been saying for years, just get the device that you NEED for your use case. Then you won't be disappointed. Thanks for ALL the support over the years! I am waiting for that too - I LOVED my Papyr device for years and could use the real estate on the screen!
@morningcoach awesome. The Boox is great as I have your planner creating my ideal day, right beside Voya's for the nitty gritty. I will miss split screen on remarkable.
@@morningcoach Yes. And that is why I have a laptop for most work related activity, a Samsung tablet for things that require a mobile device (mostly private), an RM2 for note taking and annotating non-fiction pdf's and ePub's (private and work). And a Kobo Libra Colour ereader for reading fiction. The Kobo fits in my coat pocket, so even if the RM gets a better ereader I will keep using that one. I have a RMPP on the way, in the hope it can replace the RM2. I am looking forward to making coloured mindmaps. But I am anxious about the writing experience, which is perfect on RM2. I've been using my reMarkable 2 tablet since November 18, 2020. I have truly been waiting for the next reMarkable for over two years, give or take. I just unboxed the Paper Pro about 90 minutes ago and... yes, I do like it already. I have a few mixed feeling about charging the stylus. It is different, the back light is fabulous, and I am already enjoying the larger note-taking real estate. Thanks for your honest thoughts about the reMarkable Paper Pro (A.K.A. RM3).
Be patient with it as it does take a little bit of getting used to the colors are the best but it works. He just gotta understand your expectations that it is a paper replacement and if you take it for that, I think you’ll love it.
Thank you again, Coach, for your honest review of the Remarkable Paper Pro. Just received my device yesterday and your video today confirmed me in my decision to keep the ReMarkable Paper Pro. Thanks Coach, I like the personal touch of your videos 👍❤️😊
24 hours later with the Paper Pro (reMarkable 3), oh yeah, it is wonderful for writing down my thoughts, jotting notes in meeting, and the colors are lovely. I like the larger tablet for I often don't have a table in my meetings and it is easier to write on the e-ink tablet when it on my lap. I wrote down some thoughts about a new smartwatch I'm testing, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 last night, and... oh yeah, the backlight was fabulous 🤓
Great review and telling it like it is. Looking forward to getting my 3rd rM device. I still use the other two, but I wanted the larger size and the color annotation capability for years. This is so awesome! ❤
I agree with you 90% or 95%. The price is a little high, not for me but for students. If the price is lower or have a student discount, I think it will be accessible to a lot more people who wants to try out a writing device. I am getting one because the color will make many spec diagram much more readable. The larger screen is also better for specs and newspapers.
Thanks for a great, no excuses review. I loved my r2, using it every day for my notes and tabletop roleplaying game books and character sheets (the button got stuck down and then didn't work when I got it unstuck. Looking forward to trying the Pro, especially for the color of the game books.
Haters be hating. I Love the paper replacement and glad to see RM stay true to distraction free paper the way paper has always been.....not many complaining that the old fashion paper notebook doesn't give any notifications. That's why we have phones and tablets...... Great analysis as always! Keep up the great videos! SG Tab s8+ 5G UC and about to upgrade to the Tab s10+ 5G UC
Worth the upgrade from The 2? Also, very glad to hear that I am not alone and not using e-books or any other use of the reMarkable other than for notetaking and organizing and day planning. Thanks Coach
Hey hey it is quicker, larger size, added color if you don't need any of those stick with the 2. I love the device but again the 2 is fine, it "feels" like an upgrade after a couple days if that makes sense. But, if the 2 is working for you, unless you need the added features, you got a great device.
Well said. I'm still getting used to the feel of the RM Paper Pro compared to the RM2 (not bad just different - Paper pro feels like a ballpoint pen, RM2 feels more like a pencil/felt tip pen in my opinion) but it is faster to write on compared to the RM2 which is important when in meetings or needing to take notes quickly. Furthermore you were spot on when you said you don't use colour much for what your purpose is with the device, I use it as much as i use a highlighter(often but not all the time) but still great and important feature. Keep up the great content!
Appreciate the honesty. I would push back on price and if you really need color. To me, the color for someone who doesn't need it often or at all is, to steal your analogy, paint on the race car. Do the same device without color and a crisper screen, that would be a good middle ground. Not knocking them, just doesn't fit my case.
Couldn't agree more. I don't care about this feature effing you find in those reviews. The RMPP is an experience, you just cannot look at it as a technical device. What I love about the remarkable is the simplicity and not being the best device in any aspect. Thanks remarkable for fixing the things I am missing on the RM2 after 3 years and not compromising the product in the end.
I'm SOLD! I was actually hoping for a Supernote A4X2, but that's clearly not going to happen. Better a bird in the hand than a pipe-dream. Thank you for this excellent review of what looks to be a fantastic e-paper tablet.
I've been waiting for this specific device since I learned about ReMarkable a year or two ago. As a person who RELIES on different colored pens for notetaking in college, this one having color was the deciding factor. Still deciding whether or not buy, but so far what I'm seeing is good!
Hey hey that is a great POINT!!! as long as you can handle the little flash after you will be good. I think you could get used to it. That would be my only caution!
Truth! Thank you!!!! I purchased the RPP day after it went on sale. I wanted a workplace notetaker with color, encryption and a good writing experience. Watching all the reviews and people complaining, it had me in buyers remorse. I finally received my RPP yesterday, it's perfect for what I need. I don't mind the RPP flashing, the RM2 flashes to an extent as well, I have heard the kind of scritching sound when working with PDfs but it's not constant and very quiet. All this hate-on, why invest oneself in so much negativity? Don't buy the device if reading, watching videos, surfing the net or having to have a lot of apps is a primary use case! Just don't buy it! But, still much needed in the RPP is improvement not just the hardware... RM is still behind in the software experience, search capabilities (written and text), labeling, easy shapes (squares, circles) etc.. Headings, keywords and starring like Supernote on this device would be amazing! .
I love the Remarkable approach, they do some tweaking here or there but in general simple and works well. My hesitation with the Pro is probably about the size. would prefer a 10" range for optimal mobility and note taking.
Get that - I prefer this size, but I think eventually the rM2 will become the rM - regular. (I think I don't have any information just my thoughts.) Then you would have the Pro and the rM would be pretty cool. Thanks as always!
@@morningcoach I am a technical person and just don't see the Boox devices as replacing my RM tablet. I prefer the RM+iPad combination. So will definitely consider the Pro soon
Perfect approach. I do think that you might go into whether the keyboard is useful. I keep hearing the front light is rather dim. What do you think? Why not just get a Scribe at far less money? Anyway I have one coming if they ever send it. I will let you know what I think. More important what do you think of all its advertised features in practice? They are charging a bit for them.
Glad, I knew it wasn’t just me feeling and noticing this, especially all the while they using it to make money through views. Also, outside of the tech reviews I looking at for people who use it in a real life setting, everyday use.
I love this video. I totally agree with you. I read Reddit comments and I think it’s mostly from people who are jealous and they cannot afford the RMPP. I love my RMPP. It entices me to use it!
Great to see review that is use case and not looking at it piece by piece, rippinh it off to check if everything is perfect. People get too, much expectations for something that is created as note taking device!
Looks like a great device. I decided to get the Boox Go tho instead. Mainly was interested in split screen so eBook on top half, Notes on the bottom half. Didnt need the color aspect mainly because I have an iPad already. Glad you love the remarkable and getting work done :)
That sounds like a great choice for you and good use case I love that device. I just don’t like the cut and paste on the PDFs if they fix that I think it’s right there.
Already have the RM2, based on your reviews. I use it for meeting notes, keeping track of my hours (im a graphic designer and juggle about 12 clients), and love it for that. I cant see a reason to upgrade, but the larger size and color highlighting is nice. Must...resist... 😅
Hahahahhaah yeah I don’t think you’re gonna run to go upgrade. It does feel a little snappier but unless you have some money laying around, I think you’re fine.
The problem I have with the subscription is not the price, but that you have to "pay" to use all the features of the device. I don't like when companies do this no matter what the cost may be. Too many subscriptions in my life and I already paid for the device that has these features and to use all of the features that you have to pay is not a good look. BMW did it with some of its cars and it backfired.
Scott 100% agree I didn't mention that in the video but the "way" they handled it was crazy. You can see that in some of my old videos. But, at this point it is what it is. They have a new CEO, VC money and everyone wants subscriptions. Hell, that is how I run my business. But I get you. I think they could have handled it differently. It is all about valuation with them now.
JB. As always, thank you. I'm now a maximum of 40hrs away from receiving mine, it seems to have taken forever, You're still building my excitement that shall replace my Filofax, the subscription thing makes me laugh too, it's nothing, fantastic, cheers.
I think most people would like to carry one eink device + plus the ipad/galaxy. The eink device to take notes and read books. Atleast that is my use case. Reading is not pleasant on the Pro, especially epubs, which most books are in. So now I am carrying the Pro, a kindle, an ipad, and a laptop, which is doable I guess. If note writing is the ultimate and and maybe the only goal, the Pro is undoubtedly one of the best. I read a lot and just don't want to carry 2 eink devices.
Makes sense I prefer my Kobo for travel. I read 3 books a week, mostly paper old way I guess… but with you my main reader is a KOBO though I have a ton of Kindle books and kindles. Carry would be iPad/rMPP/Kobo - the ereaders are so tiny so it just works. :) I like a smaller reader - thanks for the comment!
Awesome review! Idk if you can check if it can accept complex password pdfs. The R2 i wasnt able to use a password with the ' symbol. I do plan to use it for mainly pdf reading, and when i take another class with pdf text, maybe it will not have that symbol in it. Ha (will try to start a planner method as well) thanks again!
great video as always. I just order my RmPp on launch day Sep 4th and still waiting here in South Carolina. I have Rm2 and the Boox note air 1st generation do you think I should get the upgrade Boox 10.3 go? I am gonna be using Rmrpp for taking notes and Boox for online searching
The Boox 10.3 go I have it is like a modern day ReMarkable 2 with added functionality what I don’t like about it and I don’t recommend it is because the cut and paste doesn’t work in the PDF planner with our planners. You don’t need that so I think it’s a wonderful device and if you’re gonna use it for online searching, I think the 10.3 go it like the ReMarkable 2 but with a lot of added functionality that a lot of people don’t need that makes sense great device
bought the boox air 3c, to try while waiting for the rMPP and was seriously underwhelmed with colors, laggy navigation and too many half-baked features. Day three, I started noticing dead pixels which an issue that is widely reported. Sending it back!
It is a great paper replacement; I wouldn't see why not - though not "fragile," I definitely would watch them. I sent one to my designer so that he could have one to change our designs on and all is friends doodle on his.
Question. Why the RMPP if you don't use colour? Why not stick with the RM2? I agree with you for most of what you're saying. I do think an ereader function (not a Kindle app, perse) is necessary. It wouldn't be distracting in the way RM looks at it, it doesn't need to be online. But it would fit in my workflow to be able to annotate more documents than is possible now. My main problem there is not being able to (legally) use drm protected books.
@ErikJan4 Hmm, just my opinion: I've ordered RM PP (unfortunately, not yet even shipped : ( ), and completely not because of the color display, color is not my key feature and reason I went with this decision. My use case is: • offline note-taking black&white only experience • big screen • performance (when turning the pages of many many of my written notes, zooming in/out, etc..) • Only E Ink (LCD would be bad for eyes, for long time writing, so IPad completely not matching because of this point), • I need to being able to quickly open the file, that I need, without the need to click on many buttons (I own Go10.3, and the screen is beautiful, the device is full of integrations, but I simply finding it difficult to open the document I need fast, without clicking on "Notes" , then folder, another folder, particular note. Even if you "star" your document, add to "Favorites", you'd stil have a need to go that "Favorites", and that's many presses already). On RM (both, RM2 and RM PP), I can just swipe up-down, and I got "my favorites", and I got my note, done.
@@jacksonier Reading your remark I am thinking you might be just as well of with the RM2 which would fill your needs for a lot less money. But that is what the 100 days return option is for. You can try and find out at hardly any risk.
@@ErikJan4 I have Go10.3 with myself, and really like it and going to keep it for what it is "The Best In-Class B&W reading experience, so far". Yes, but you can see that my requirement contains "Big screen", for which the RM2 is not that "big" compared to the RM PP. I was even considering the TabX, but software-wise RM is better, solely fousing on the Note-taking experience and easy-to-use (swipe up-down and get job done...)
I enjoyed your video & agree with nearly everything. The only thing holding me back other than price being a bit high is no Kindle app. I understand they'd have to change from Linux to Android & lock it down like SuperNote does, but if I'm going to pay a premium price for color, I want to be able to take full advantage of that color
As a notepad then this is a go. BUT if you're an artist or want to read e-books or use the play store then its a big no. So basically its a glorified note taker. For now i think the boox note air 3c is the Best jack if all trades.
@@morningcoach I think it is the biggest advantage of Remarkable as a platform - simple streamlined solution what won't slow down with upgrades or newly introduced obscure features. The battery is still giving me more than 2 days of use time, cosmetically almost as new. Took me through the uni, now I use it for work everyday. As I am planning to embark on a PhD, I think it is time to start saving on a larger pro version, that would be much easier to read research papers. Plus colour. Basically I am the biggest RM fan now

Yep, exactly the same for me. Thanks so much for the comment.
Thanks JB! Your video is right on the mark!
Speaking Truth!!!
Thanks Kevin -
Couldn't agree more.
This is so thorough and so timely. Thank you!
Thank you I’m glad it helped
I'm SOLD! I was actually hoping for a Supernote A4X2, but that's clearly not going to happen. Better a bird in the hand than a pipe-dream. Thank you for this excellent review of what looks to be a fantastic e-paper tablet.
I know I SO WANT Supernote to succeed love that company, but delays :( This is a great device give it a few days.
@@larklandmorley yeah I don’t know why there’s so much love for Boox I like their products but for me they’re just too clunky if that makes sense
Great video. Thanks for the content.
Thank you for the comment!
I find myself using it more and more yeah I don’t understand the hate for it. I really don’t.
Also paid detractors, and those who counted the company out. I said rM is the Cinderella of the story and someone went off on me 😂
Great to see review that is use case and not looking at it piece by piece, rippinh it off to check if everything is perfect. People get too, much expectations for something that is created as note taking device!
Straight to the point! Nothing more to add👌🏼
Thank you!
I like the positive vibe 😊
Give it a few days once you get it - it will grow on you! Promise - I really love this thing. I am doing more and more on it.
I'll be camped on the doorstep waiting for DHL 😊 @@morningcoach
I like how do you think and talk! Good job 👍
it's here and I love it ❤
Great news!!!! New one-sheet planning sheet will be here Wed or Thur :)
Sold! Best review on this product.👊
Thanks, Paul! :)
Yeah, I can try it. I’ve never done that. I don’t use the password on it but for sure I’ll try that. Thanks for the comment
great video as always.
YES. YES. YES!!!
bought the boox air 3c, to try while waiting for the rMPP and was seriously underwhelmed with colors, laggy navigation and too many half-baked features. Day three, I started noticing dead pixels which an issue that is widely reported. Sending it back!
Thanks for the report!
would this be good for toddlers learning to write and draw under supervision?
@ErikJan4
Hmm, just my opinion: I've ordered RM PP (unfortunately, not yet even shipped : ( ), and completely not because of the color display, color is not my key feature and reason I went with this decision. My use case is:
• offline note-taking black&white only experience
• big screen
• performance (when turning the pages of many many of my written notes, zooming in/out, etc..)
• Only E Ink (LCD would be bad for eyes, for long time writing, so IPad completely not matching because of this point),
• I need to being able to quickly open the file, that I need, without the need to click on many buttons (I own Go10.3, and the screen is beautiful, the device is full of integrations, but I simply finding it difficult to open the document I need fast, without clicking on "Notes" , then folder, another folder, particular note.
I was even considering the TabX, but software-wise RM is better, solely fousing on the Note-taking experience and easy-to-use (swipe up-down and get job done...)
rM2 is a great device, this just feels better, quicker it is growing on me. Don't need color and a little bigger size stick with the rM2 works great.
Heck, yes, we can disagree in that - if we agree on EVERYTHING, something is wrong. Love it - and thanks for the comment!
The only thing Is I use a physical calander to seperate and give my self a break
As a notepad then this is a go. BUT if you're an artist or want to read e-books or use the play store then its a big no. So basically its a glorified note taker. For now i think the boox note air 3c is the
Best jack if all trades.
All good that is your use case, so yep Boox for you! Might sits on the shelf - but with you good comment! Again USE case.
I still use my rm1
Love this!
Basically I am the biggest RM fan now
Wanna send me the unopened box lol
HAHAH went to my designer who is building our free planner for it :) He needs it to test the planner HEHEH
