    In the past I've worked on various portions of the 1/48th scale Saturn V available from Lower Hudson Valley. This is a large model with the 1st stage measuring over 200mm in diameter just for the circular section. In order to get a reasonably true cylinder I found it best to cut a piece of heavy paper just slightly longer than the internal diameter. The outer skin takes 4 sheets of A4. These i joined with strips of tracing paper. When placing the inside sheet inside the skin it required the edges to be placed against each other. Then snapping the piece into shape. This imposed a tension on the outer skin that made it very circular.
    On another model l needed conic sections (fustrums) with a small diameter of 100mm and a base of 112mm. The best way i found to achieve this was machine a ring that matched the angle of the cone and slip that over the outside forcing it into a true shape. And then fitting an inner skin. This structure took 2 skin pieces. Each with multiple openings.

    Nice video, thanks.
    But I have a question, at the video start when you bending the first part, there is quite big white spot which you need to cut, but yours part is bend at this moment, how you cutting it and hold the part form?

    Are you not supposed to have those parts glued to paperboard first? It has a star mark on them. I know not all pieces do but you have to shape them after.

    I find that having a selection of colored pencils & markers to match the colors printed on the paper helps with realism. The white on the ends of the paper really do need to be disguised. Sometimes before the assembly, or after....depending on the application. As always, it's best to go in with a plan with any model assemblage.
    Myself, I prefer German made paper models. The Polish ones, in my experience are good, too....but, sometimes lack concerning the directions. JSC Models from Poland are beautiful kits. IF, YOU CAN FIGURE OUT HOW THEY GO TOGETHER !!..... I love paper model ships, and JSC have a great selection. I just rolled the dice the other day and bought a ship kit of a WWII Japanese light cruiser, KITAKAMI from Answer Models from Poland. Hopefully, the directions won't leave me pulling my hair out.....🤔

      Take a look at other polish publishers - Kartonowy Arsenał/Military Model, GPM, Kartonowa Kolekcja, Mały Modelarz, Orlik, Wak, Modelarstwo Kartonowe, Modelarstwo Okrętowe. There are plenty well designed models with (most of the cases) clear assembly instructions.
      Check out my other videos - I made one about coloring edges. I prefer using watercolor paints for this task :)
      Thanks for comment! Good luck with your Kitakami 👍

      Hehe, mi osobiście przyda się odcinek z praktycznie każdego zakamarka modelarstwa, a zwłaszcza z elementów, które mi wychodzą najgorzej np. torpeda w Kate zakończona jest "szpikulcami", które utworzyły ładny, kolisty nos (z tego typu elementu czasami są też w owiewki śmigieł). Mieszanie farb w praktycznie idealny odcień - chociaż nie wiem czy na to jest jakaś technika - praktyka, praktyka i praktyka??

    • @technick-papermodels846
      @technick-papermodels846  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zamiast "praktyki" wstawiłbym słowo "cierpliwość" :D. Mieszam tak długo aż uda mi się uzyskać żądany odcień. Często mieszanie zaczynam na nowo kiedy widzę, że pomimo prób nie udaje mi się uzyskać odpowiedniego koloru. Najlepiej jest zacząć wtedy cały proces na nowo i powtarzać tak długo, aż kolor będzie zbliżony do koloru wycinanki (lepiej jak jest nawet delikatnie jaśniejszy). Pozdrawiam :)

      Probably TH-cam. I've been out of this for while. Been meaning to start back up but, well life keeps getting in the way 🤢 this might be one reason foam filled hulls are/where so popular. Also a lot I think depends on the publisher. And the time frame it was designed. And how well you can wield a knife. But a laser or Cricut might get around that. If it's an old ship with riveted hull plates it might be possible to lay a thin layer over the formers and then lay the hull plating over that. I won't say it's never been done. I've never seen a picture of it. Of course the issue with paper is compound curves. It can be done to some extent.

    • @technick-papermodels846
      @technick-papermodels846  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used wood primer lacquer called "Capon or Kapon" - one thin coat straight out the can applied by brush. It makes paper more flexible and resistant. I apply it on every page before cutting any part. I don't know Capon's equivalent in another countries although :(

    • @sebekglab
      @sebekglab 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@technick-papermodels846 Celuose Lacquer or Guitar Lacquer are what Capon is. In case of Guitar lacquer you need to thin it down 1:1 or even 1:1.5 with cellulose thiner to get Capon consistency.

    do you use normal a4 paper or cardstock for these kinds of projects?

    • @mpetersen6
      @mpetersen6 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most parts are of card stock of varying values. Lbs or gr/m2 depending on local. I find I prefer digital sourced models (downloaded or on CD) as opposed to printed ones. E en printed ones do a high quality scan and print your own sheets. Not so you can short the publisher but as insurance. That way if you mess up a part or assembly you haven't trashed the whole project. Another thing with printing from digital is the ability to edit the coloring and do re-scales

    when glue paper with another piece of paper. it usually get curved. you know how to make it flat again??

    • @technick-papermodels846
      @technick-papermodels846  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be easier to answer if i knew exact situation. For large, flat parts it's better to use non-waterbased glue. I don't know how to make it flat again and I believe it's almost impossible :(. Next time if you use waterbased glue try to use it as little as you can.

    • @alannewman85
      @alannewman85 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use a solvent glue, like 'UHU' for example. Don't use normal PVA glue (white glue) on large parts as it contains water which distorts or 'curves' the paper as you say because it contains water. PVA dries by evaporation of the water. There is a type of PVA called 'tacky' PVA which I believe is better but havn't used myself yet ('Anita's' brand in the UK and 'Aleene's' in the USA.

      Use something like the end of a sharpie marker or pen depending on how sharp or blunt. It gets the form memorized and them glue and squeeze into place. PVA glue works excellent and allows time for adjustment.

    Skąd masz te rod'y, jakiego kleju używasz i jakiej firmy modele są najdokładniejsze? Ja robię Małego modelarza i mają sporo błędów. Pozdrawiam serdecznie Przemek.

      Hej! :). "Pręt nierdzewny 20cm" w wyszukiwarce allegro - znajdziesz tam pręty o różnych średnicach. Akurat te o najmniejszych średnicach można kupić w odcinkach po 50cm ale to bardziej zaleta bo taka długość świetnie nadaje się do kształtowania krawędzi natarcia skrzydeł, które często mają spore gabaryty. Jeśli chodzi o kleje to do podklejania elementów na karton korzystam z kleju w sprayu kupionego w markecie budowlanym. Do całej reszty w 80% korzystam z bezbarwnego kleju wodnego BCG, czasami z kleju polimerowego jeśli boję się o deformację klejonej powierzchni (z klejami wodnymi trzeba niestety na to bardzo uważać) i z kleju cyjanoakrylowego do drutów i niekiedy do części kartonowych jeśli zależy mi na szybkim i trwałym połączeniu. Co do dokładności modeli to chyba najlepsze pod względem dokładności, spasowania ale też skomplikowania są modele z wydawnictwa Halinski. Jeśli chodzi o modele prostsze to zerknij na ofertę wydawnictwa Kartonowa Kolekcja lub proArte. Niestety jeszcze nie natknąłem się na model idealny, który nie zawierałby błędów i wprowadzanie wszelkich poprawkek, docinanie, dosztukowywanie i kombinowanie na zawsze wkroczyło do mojej modelarskiej codzienności. Zachęcam Cię też do zerknięcia na fora kartonowe www.konradus.com i www.papermodels.pl - to kopalnia wiedzy na temat opracowań różnych modeli jak i technik sklejania - na pewno znajdziesz tam coś dla siebie :). Pozdrawiam!

    How on earth would you think such an earsore of a song was a good idea for this video?
    The only way I could possibly stand watching was by muting the crap all the way through. Talk about bad taste!

      I was too excited about this video and sharing new techniques so I didn't pay much attention to background music. Since first negative comment appeared I had to admit that this song is really annoying. Lesson learned. Have a nice day
