Thank you so much Jim. Linda is one of my favorites. Her garden is magnificent. Loved the old house but she has carried her talent on to this new one. I was so happy this morning to get up (could not sleep) and see your video. Wonderful information. Thinking about changing an area in my garden from perennials to more shrubs (so tired of watering in our extreme weather here in the triangle). I just water and water and fertilize but end up with faded out plants and so few flowers. These shrubs are giving me ideas and hope. I do have Kaleidoscope Abelias which are wonderful. I agree with Linda, they make wonderful cut flowers and really ground arrangements❤️🐕🐕

I love this. I enjoy Mr. Putnam going to different gardens, especially with this cottage garden of Mrs. Vater. Wonderful.

I m a watcher from Europe. Visited the gardens of Versailles a week ago. There were XXL giants of Abelia...probably very old. It was very beautifull

Linda’s garden is beautiful! I’d never guess she was in Oklahoma, it’s tough gardening out there! Butterfly candy (lil raspberry) was the best surprise in my garden this year. It’s just beautiful and resilient. I planted before a stretch of very windy days & thought it was going to snap. By the time I went out to reset it, it was rooted in & happy.. full bloom ever since. I don’t personally use boxwoods but I see why others do. I try to create a similar look with native, evergreen viburnums.

Wow! Linda was totally different in this video.
She came across genuine not over the top as in her videos. She actually listened to what you had to say. I truly wish this was the persona she would always present.

I live in Henrietta Texas, I’m having a problem with my boxwood. I have great compost in the garden lots of morning to three o’clock sun, then shade. I’ll have to look at the boxwood I have, I think I’m trying two different kinds. I lost all six of my bowling ball arborvitae, that were In afternoon shade, With water. Great compost a bit sandy soil. but with plenty of water, maybe to much? I’m having a hard time with several things. But at 110 degrees for three months, and no rain I should be glad I kept alive the things I have.

I bow before anyone intrepid enough to take on gardening in OK. Linda’s gardens are amazing.
Jim, I was moving pots around this week, preparing for winter, and I happened to plop a Pugster Blue butterfly bush down next to a white Lantana. Wow. I’ve got to find a place to make that combo a permanent planting.
    Thanks for another beautiful video!

A hill in OKC...I missed it when I was there. I love Linda's garden. I have similarly harsh conditions in Zone 8a Central Arkansas. We have more hills, a bit less wind, but we share the temperature variances.

Linda does tend to generalize the weather in Oklahoma. The eastern part of the state gets over 50 inches of rain per year and is a bit milder weather wise.

Our landscaper- a native plant specialist- has installed a number of viburnums this year. We have not had blooms yet but we are enjoying the fall color. The glossy foliage on the Possumhaw (nudum) is especially striking.

Same here! I have an Autumn Fire Encore Azalea and it only bloomed in the spring…no reblooming in the summer or fall at all even though they’re supposed to be reblooming. 🤔 Thinking about moving it to a container and to another spot in my back yard to see if it does any better next year before giving up on it completely.

So enjoyed the two of you getting together to discuss hardy shrubs. Please help, my 7 year old Prague viburnum has leaves turning very yellow. What is happening?? Thank you for your channels.

    • @TheBarefootedGardener
      @TheBarefootedGardener ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Barbara,
2/3 of my Prague Viburnum are doing the same thing- the ones that are doing it are in poor soil, so I have a hunch that they are trying to condition the soil to something that they like & or self address a nutrient deficiency. Then some genius humans come along and get rid of all the leaves from underneath the plant…
They also will do that in autumn (reduce their leaf mass) by a noticeable amount. Could also be rainfall related.

    Jim,
Last fall I planted a number of bulbs, mostly small, naturalizing varieties of tulips, Mary Poppins daffodils, & Grape hyacinths. I'm pretty sure they all came up this spring. Strange thing is, some are sending up new leaves right now. I did not plant any fall-blooming bulbs. I'm in VA Zone 7A. Do you have any idea what's going on?
    Thank you! 😊

    Jim,
Perhaps a silly question, but, is Linda in Oklahoma City, OKLAHOMA (if memory suits, like Kansas City, I believe there's an Oklahoma City in several states 🤔)?
    Thank you. 😊

I am in zone 7a (Knoxville Tn) and will dig up Cape Plumbago out of the garden and overwinter them in the garage. What type of soil/ potting mix is best to use. I will put them back out in the ground in the spring. Thank you!
