100% on point CHH, releasing every damn actor is the stupidest decision. They've ruined their own marketing opportunity to have the reveals/surprises and word of mouth reactions
The trailers give everything away already, it's pointless to name each and every cast member as a news release

The way you feel about everything being ruined for us reminds me of how I feel about movie trailers nowadays. They give away way too much! I don't need to know the entire plot and have great moments ruined for me beforehand, all I need to know is a basic synopsis of the movie and who's involved in it, and that's enough to get me to the theater. A teaser trailer is one thing but then they release additional trailers that basically show you the entire movie, and then what do you have to look forward to when you go see it in the theater? Avoiding trailers is the way to go.

You are absolutely right, Christian. I think the studio is doing this to make up for the flack they got for the Melissa Barrera/Jenna Ortega issue. They made a huge point to announce that Neve was coming back, but they could have left it at that. The Mathew Lillard surprise would have been huge especially since everyone was asking for it the last few films.

I hate this nostalgia mining sh!t. Hopelessly uninteresting and less resources for new films and franchises and yet people are addicted to never letting these characters go.
I wonder if this some kind of trick to mess with the people like a misdirection, but if not, it's shitty that they ruined a great surprise.

I think it would be too much of a waste just to regulate Lillard’s return to a flashback. The creative side of my mind wants to say it’s going to be Stu Macher’s parole hearing after serving 30 years of good behavior. Which, come to think of it, would explain Sidney’s return.
We basically already know the whole plot . Not excited for this one. Just trying to save face from the actresses firing. No such thing as being surprised these days with trailers and marketing spoiling everything
Last time i saw a moo with a similar suprise was Halloween 2018 when we saw dr loomis, however brief. Not Donald Pleasance but at least his character & they did a great job at making him look like the original Loomis. The entire audience gasped when we saw him

You aren't wrong it would have been better if they kept these as surprises. But they announced it either because they just said Fuck it and wanted to build hype or they think there's just no way they could keep it secret and we're just afraid that someone would leak it and they said Fuck it lol. Or option 3 they have an even bigger surprise beyond Stu and there using these other 2 spoilers to evade away from the biggest.
I actually think it's likely that they do bring Stu back alive. I predict we do see flashbacks with Stu Roman and Billy but that at some point it's also revealed that Stu is alive in the nut house.

I don't know because all I ever see on the internet is people talking about how the Scream franchise should die, and how they're all sucked since like the first one. But after this Matthew Lillard thing dropped, I'm seeing a lot of comments about people excited for it. So while I too wish it would have been a surprise, I think it might have worked and accomplished what it wanted to accomplish.
I love Scream, so I was going to watch it no matter what. I'm a huge mark for any horror franchise and Scream is in my top five favorite horror franchises.
I agree with you, but I think they did this for 2 reasons. (1. Scream has too much bad press and they lost the two final girls that have been carrying the last few movies. No one cares about Nev Campbell anymore. Young people don't go to theaters anymore. So you need that big hook. (2. There is no way in hell they would have been able to keep this a secret, and no way they wouldn't have used him in the marketing. This would have been leaked early in to filming. And what would the marketing have used as a draw without his face at this point? If they did this with scream 3, like they originally were going to, I can see this working as a secret. But not scream 7, almost 30 years later. Also, toby and andrew were both leaked in Spiderman with on set video and images pretty early on.
I think you are spot on. Someone would have leaked a photo with him on set or near the set. The twist i see is that Stu is there to HELP Syd this time.

Christian, I think when you mentioned pro wrestling, you were on the right track, but back in the days when they had to actually sell PPVs they promoted virtually everything except maybe one big surprise. They wanted the names out there to get the widest group of fans to buy it. They took the hardcore fans for granted. The suits behind the movie aren't trying to get you. They are trying to get people like me out who haven't seen a Scream movie beyond part 4. Or like my siblings who only knew about the first 3. Sadly they aren't catering to you and others who have consumed every film in the series. The idea is to catch the widest net, especially to replace all the fans they may have lost due to the casting controversies. They don't feel the need to cater to the fans who will buy in regardless.
I just rolled by eyes on the announcement because it’s just the obvious choice because this franchise is completely outta gas. Every announcement feels like damage control due to the very public fallout from what happened in the original scream 7 plan and now they’re back peddling hardcore and going to shower us with dumb fan service to regain peoples interest.
Idk the ins and outs of what ppl do with their personal lives but maybe they didn’t want another Snow White situation. “Hey don’t mind her and her we got Lillard and Campbell cone see the movie. “
They don't care about keeping anything secret for this movie anymore. Because they realize they messed up & got a portion of the fanbase angry with the Jenna & Melissa news that they are boycotting. So they are relying on nostalgia bait to try to get the jaded fans hooked back in. Personally I won't being seeing this in theaters even though I love the franchise because this just comes off like them trying to save face & it reeks of nostalgia over good storytelling. I wouldn't be surprise if this ends up as screams first dud just because how it feels like they are just throwing stuff at the wall.

I think it's just movie studios trying to put information out there before the internet spoils it. Because we all know the internet spoils everything. But I agree, the surprise would have been nice. But I still don't know in what way Mathew Lillard is going to be used. Like how they're going to explain Stu being there. So that's something. As far as the Scream 3 dude, you just broke the news to me on that but I still don't know exactly what dude you're talking about so I'm not going to look further into it.
I have somewhat high hopes for Scream 7, because Kevin Williamson is gonna direct it. Although he's never directed as far as I know, and it's written by the same writers as Scream 5. Which is worrisome. But Kevin Williamson gives me hope it will be at least as good as part 4. That's all I want. I remember when Scream 2 and 3 came out. I always thought "man, these Scream sequels aren't as good as the original movie. These are a let down." Scream 4 came out and while it isn't as good as the original movie, they are better then Scream 2 and 3. Then Scream 5 and 6 came out and it's like "okay, now your worse then Scream 2 and 3." although I kind of liked Scream 6 in terms of "it's so bad it's good" "guilty pleasure" movie. While Scream 5 is just a total and complete waste of time. I like the Scream "toxic fandom" quotes and dialog in the movie, but that's it. I can accept Scream 2, 3, and even 6, but Scream 5 simply never happened in my universe. And some of the reasons for why Scream 2 and 3 are not good and Scream 4 is better. Scream 2 was rewritten from it's original script, it was also rushed. It isn't as brutal or gory or as intense as the first movie. The original script was though. And Scream 3; Columbine and the 2000's. Among other issues. They even kept rewriting the script as the film was being made.
But I've been ignoring everything Scream 7 related, until now....Stu is back in the movie? Wish I didn't learn that,lol. So ironically you spoiled it for me, Christian.
I watched Alien: Romulus and it was basically Prey, once again. In terms of Alien movies my ranking from best to worse is Alien, Aliens, Prometheus, Alien: Resurrection, Alien 3, Alien: Romulus, and Alien: Covenant. So Alien Romulus the second to worse Alien film in my view. And it had AI Ash...now here is my view on the whole AI thing. I know they used AI for superman and ghostbusters. If those movies are just using the AI as a cameo for the dead actors, that's fine. That doesn't bother me, but Ash is a main character through out the entire film. Totally uncalled for. It's pandering nonsense that I hate in modern cinema. There was literally ZERO, ZERO reason for him to be in the movie. I hated the fact that Alien: Romulus had to TAINT the rest of the franchise. Why can't the movie JUST STAND ON IT'S OWN TWO FEET?! Why does it have to rewrite the first movie? Bring the dead alien back? Make it directly tied to the first movie and bring back Ash? Like, LEAVE ALIEN AND ALIENS OUT IT, LEAVE ASH OUT OF IT. And it was totally distracting. It was done purely for nostalgia exploitation and nothing more.
And this has nothing to do with "being morally or ethically outrage" or what ever on my part. "Ian Holm would like and appreciate this probably" Maybe, probably. Let's say they had his consent. I don't care. It's distracting and it's unnecessary, and it's lazy, and it's messing with the original film!!! Alien: Covenant had the same problem. Messing up the mythology. Messing up the franchise. It only had aliens in it because the fans wanted the xenomorphs back and so they lazily put them in to appease the fans, instead of accepting that it was suppose to be it's own thing.
As for what you said about the announcement of Stu being in the movie. "They are going out of their way to ruin any sort of surprise" YA, MAN! WHAT THE FUCK?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! And yes, I aboslutely remember those big giant heavy as hell TV sets. Stu clearly died. I owned a few of those giant TV sets. They are heavy as hell. I had to ask someone to help me lift it up because it was so damn heavy and I didn't want to drop it. And ya, I love Mathew Lillard too. I love Serial mom and Scream. I use to watch Serial mom as a kid back in the 90's ALL THE TIME. Sometimes twice a day. I know that movie backwards and forwards. I know that movie like the back of my hand and I love Mathew Lillard in that movie.
"I'm too old to deal with that. I'm in my 30's now" Ya, me too, I'm 37 and I've been saying that for a long while now too.
And this is why I try and avoid trailers, and overall spoilers online, but I was very tempted with this rant video,lol.
"Are they gonna give us the plot too?" PROBABLY, when the trailer comes out. Terminator Genisys, regardless of the movie. Regardless of the miscasting, the trailer spoiled literally EVERYTHING. The fact that John Conner was the villain of the movie was totally spoiled. Inexcusable. So I stopped watching trailers around 2018, 2019. Although I have broken that rule a little bit a couple of times. I didn't even know about the ghostface with a shotgun because I only watched a minute of the trailer and said "That's it. No more' and then it got spoiled for me when I woke up and started looking on my news feeds and it was mentioned on youtube.
And with Scream, I find this incredibly ironic considering the fact that Scream 2's script was leaked online and so they had to do a little bit of rewriting and with Scream 3 they made sure it wouldn't happen again. Wes Craven was always careful not to let the Scream movies become spoiled and this included 2011 with Scream 4.
I'm older. I'm 37. I used the internet [at the school and my mom's ex boyfriend's computer, and then later in 1999, we got a single computer we had to share], but that was limited, so yes I also went to the library and word of mouth as well. So technically, I've been on the internet since 1996, maybe even 1995.
And "they want to get people buzz and get people hyped" I aint hyped though! Because you spoiled it! Plus the fact that I don't entirely have faith this is gonna be a good movie anyway. This film should of been Kevin William as writer, director and that's it. Again. Scream 5 is a total waste of time, Scream 6, take it or leave it. But I liked Sick from 2022. Sick felt more like a Scream movie then Scream 5 and 6. And I am glad they totally got off the Scream 5 and 6 thing. I am glad they are going back to Neve Campbell,. that is where they should of been in the FIRST PLACE, then once that story arc was done, then they should of went with a new series.
Edit: You didn't know The fly 2 existed? The fly 2 is a great movie. I don't watch it too often, but I always enjoy it. Good to know you enjoy it too. For some reason, a lot of people consider it a bad sequel/movie. The story is good, the acting is good, the effects are good. Totally exploits the concept. I first saw it on TV back in the like 1999, or 2000, maybe 2001. Glad to see it get some love.

We're are overcomplicating things. I will stick to my theory that Matthew will play Stu’s dad in the movie and seek revenge. It's an easy task make him a tad bit older and totally believable without implement some crazy AI stuff and flashbacks
