currently Eddy doesn't provide the tools for it... However, the engine behind Eddy and Butterfly (OpenFoam) is capable. Look at my later videos about indoor airflow with Butterfly... check out my playlist: th-cam.com/play/PL4Rc2GtLpcNVWy0DsYd74cY8LSczF8V1B.html
I found your video and tried a lot to use eddy3d, eventually it wasn't possible. I'm using Rhino 8 and I've tried installing the beta version for Rhino8, but there are a lot of red pop up messages in grasshopper.. So I gave up on this way,, Now I'm watching your 'butterfly cfd' and I hope it works! Thanks to making informative video!
The installation is the key and needs to follow on the dot and also to run Rhino in Admin mode. Sometimes non+English operating systems could potentially become a problem. If for example folders are named. If problems persist I would start by learning the fundamentals of grasshopper first. CFD analysis is advanced level and takes time and tinkering. Don't give up and always try the examples files which with the installation. If these don't work then there is something wrong with the installation.
Hi Philipp, I thank you for your video. Have you tried the simulation with your own terrain? When I set up new terrain, box wind analysis doesn't show the domain box. When I load the default box wind analysis, it shows the domain, but if I change the default terrain to any surfs, the box domain disappears. Does this only happen to me?
Yes there are some issues with the terrain I can remember. I think it has something to do with the elevation. The terrain can't be lower the 0....I made it work at the end by laying around.
Hello Philipp! Very useful tutorial for landscape architects! A quick question - How do we set the wind direction for different cities around the globe for different times of the year? Or any idea where do we find this information?
You will need a weather data file. Like we use in ladybug or honeybee. I should get to do an update at some point. You could also do a ladybug Windrose and then set the wind direction and speed manually accordingly.
Hi George, yes it should be possible. I am currently trying to understand the process regarding annual wind analysis via weather data in eddy3d but couldn't make the sample file work. It's just a matter of time. In order to analyse the average wind direction. You could just calculate the average vector and speed from the ebw file output (Ladybug) and use that. I'll have a thought.
Hi Philipp! It's me again. I'm having issues with the box-shaped domain tool, it can't seem to make a domain for me or any tangible box. I think my topography might be effecting it, I tried flipping the surface but did not work. Could I please ask for some assistance here 🙏
Yeah i think there is bug. Strange that they haven't fixed this yet. You might want to check if your terrain or geometry is lower the sea level. I think that causes issues if I remember correctly.
hey philipp , thanks for your video . could you help in more explaination vedios about the eddy setting of mesh and simulation what it is means from eddy component . thanks alote
hey Philipp, thanks for your video and explaination. Very helpful. but, it's usually take issue 1. The file "C:\3_SimpleWindAnalysis\14\postProcessing\asd\0\U" does not exist. Please run the probing component. i'm sure all component have run.
Seems you are already more advanced 😉 I haven't tried to use Galapagos with Butterfly or Eddy 3d but I like the idea alot. I don't think it should be a problem. Eddy3d might be even easier to handle. I'll have a thought.
!!!Hi Appologize, I acciently deleted a comment!!! The person asked if i would do tutorials on how to animate CFD analysis. The answer is: I will have a look but i think both Eddy 3d and Butterfly are not built to do that. I would recommend Ansys for that task. If its just about a cool animation then maybe blender 3d is the best free choice. Hope that helps Best Philipp
hey Philipp, thanks for your video and explaination. Very helpful. The prevailing wind angle of an EPW file can be obtained from the ladybug wind rose. But you know how to get the average speed for the prevailing wind angle? This is so it can be an input for eddy3d wind speed. Thanks in advance! :)
I like your question. It's a nice challenge. Let me have a thought regarding the same. Thinking about it, you can probably filter the values of the wind direction and then map its cull pattern onto the wind speed dataset. That actually brings me to a different idea...
Hey Philip, first thank u very much for your videos ! Secondly i have a problem when visualizing the Probes. I get the error message "Parsing of teh probes failed. This data does not exist" could you help me with this error ?
This can many reasons. Are you running your rhino in admin mode for instance. Which version of bluecore CFD did you install etc...? Can you run the example files?
@@PhilippGalvanDesign I did everything like you: admin mode, bluecfd 2017, running enviroment etc. When running the probes the message in the console says : FOAM Warning : From function virtual void Foam::probes::findElements(const Foam::fvMesh&) in file probes/probes.C at line 119 Did not find location (1.59 -369.417 25.877) in any cell. Skipping location. when running the bluecfd terminal the first time i get 2 permissions denied. So my idea is that bluecfd / open foam has a problem. reinstall didnt work. i would be very happy if you could tell me a sollution. best regards, Jonny
Maybe if you could send me the file I can check if it works on my computer. office@nedomlel.com. There are some users they had problems with bluecore CFD...but that would be beyond my knowledge boundary...
@@PhilippGalvanDesign Thank you very much for your effort. I dont have a file which could make problems. The simple wind analysis simply does not work. i tried a different computer and i dont have the error anymore but after it worked for 1 time i just get random vectors now ( admin start, meters etc. all settings should be fine...) .... it looks so promising what you show in the videos but seems like i have to give up on eddy.
Long story short: i didnt give up and just had to clear the values after every turn and now it seems to work. Thank you very much !Btw : The Beta for eddy looks also promising and brings a lot of new features :)
Sorry, I mustve been clicked twice accidentally. Fyi, i tried last night and they could be combined. However, it took a very long time since bf had to remesh the model then run it over and over again.
I am also trying to figure out how to combine octopus/galapagos with a CFD analysis. My question is as follows : how do you work around the fact that for each iteration you need to «clean» the whole script ? Is there a plugin/function that can reset the whole store the information and then reset the script ? If you have your script id love to have a look ! Cheers
It's very cool that you can change the wind direction)
Agreed 😅

Hi, thank you for your video. Are you using exact wind information from location? In one video you just apply x dirrection. Thanx!
No, not in this case. I'll probably in future videos.
Hi Philip:) great video! Can we add weather data .epw instead of numerical wind direction?
Yes, I haven't tried it yet but there is a input slot for epw data. Will try it in one of the next videos.
