Everyone's here appreciating Rothery and Hogarth but no one noticed Pete Trewavas absolutely killed it on the bass in this song...without a doubt one of the best bassists ever!
I went to coniston water for the first time last week i found a quiet bench put my head phones in played this song had a little cry and thanked donald campbell. It was an intensely emotional few minutes but it was beautiful.
By far the best band I've ever seen in concert. Travelled from America to London just to see them twice at the Astoria for the Marbles tour. This band has a loyal following second to none.
I love that Marillion has such a diverse following. People from all over the planet loving what I believe to be the pennacle of human expression. These guys just speak to me on so many levels, without taking themselves too seriously. Bravo!
Still think it is unbelievable that this song inspired Bill Smith to raise Bluebird K7 from Coniston, re-build it over 17 years and ran it on Loch Fad last month. Awesome!
Equally unbelievable is that it even got Marillion a mention (and a very brief play) on BBC One's "The One Show". Not much chance of that happening under any other circumstances!
"Three hundred miles an hour on water In your purpose-built machine No one dared to call a boat Screaming blue Out of this world Make history This is your day Blue Bird At such speeds, things fly What did she say? I know the pain of too much tenderness Wondering when or if you'll come back again Wanting to live for you And being banned from giving But only love will turn you around Only love will turn you around Only love Only love will turn you around So we live you and I Either side of the edge And we run and we scream With the dilated stare Of obsession and dreaming What the hell do we want Is it only to go Where nobody has gone A better way than the herd Sing a different song Till you're running the ledge To the gasp from the crowd Spinning round in your head Everything that she said".
Rothers once again proving that it's never about how many notes you play and how fast or how loud - it's all about playing the right ones and making them sing!
I totally agree I HATE IT when there allways comparing with P.F. or Genesis or whatever, sure there are influences but thats good for growth. Marillion is in my humble opinion better then Pink Floyd!! PEACE
Sif basically it is a small MIDI controller. He can trigger samples and play small keyboard parts with it. When he started out with Marillion he used gloves with triggers so every time he touched something a note / sample was heard. Those triggers however didn’t last long due to corossion caused be sweat. So his roadie took a cricketbat and stuck the triggers plus all electronics on and in the bat. This isn’t the original bat but a custom made instrument made for him.
It’s a cricket bat hollowed out and has MIDI triggers much like a keyboard could have. I just read about it. I remember the gloves for that but somehow missed seeing him use the bat later on.
Absolument d accord ! Amen
Absolutely one of the most beautiful songs of the universe. No one comes anywhere near them. They are "out of this world."
...for me one of their BEST SONGS after FISH gone, also LOVED songs as ESTONIA and my favourite NEVER LAND
Everyone's here appreciating Rothery and Hogarth but no one noticed Pete Trewavas absolutely killed it on the bass in this song...without a doubt one of the best bassists ever!

Every time I hear this song I can't stop tears. So well played, so well narrated by those lyrics... And the story it tells, so touching...
Such a beautiful song. What a beautiful voice. Fantastic band!
Simply the best band i ever listened to. Steve H is the best frontman of the world.
I love that Marillion has such a diverse following. People from all over the planet loving what I believe to be the pennacle of human expression. These guys just speak to me on so many levels, without taking themselves too seriously. Bravo!

"Three hundred miles an hour on water
In your purpose-built machine
No one dared to call a boat
Screaming blue
Out of this world
Make history
This is your day
Blue Bird
At such speeds, things fly
What did she say?
I know the pain of too much tenderness
Wondering when or if you'll come back again
Wanting to live for you
And being banned from giving
But only love will turn you around
Only love will turn you around
Only love
Only love will turn you around
So we live you and I
Either side of the edge
And we run and we scream
With the dilated stare
Of obsession and dreaming
What the hell do we want
Is it only to go
Where nobody has gone
A better way than the herd
Sing a different song
Till you're running the ledge
To the gasp from the crowd
Spinning round in your head
Everything that she said".
What a great song!

Gregg Clarke
Did you see this gig Gregg? I feel that wiv love sadly lacking in society the lyric "only love will turn you around" becomes quite relevant.
This inspired Smith to recover the body. RIP DC
Masterpiece
Amazing! -Love this guys
Great guitar solo
Rothers once again proving that it's never about how many notes you play and how fast or how loud - it's all about playing the right ones and making them sing!

Zgadzam się... Niezwykłe...
If "special" means anything, it means Marillion!
IT¨`S A GREAT SONG ...
Nice !!!!!
ROTHERY !!!!.
I brividi, in tutti i sensi!!!
Why is this band not more popular? Perhaps due to X factor stopping people listening and understanding music!
Just a brilliant track. My gf and I made love to this album as it is so passionate and romantic. See you at Marillion weekend 2015.
Brasil love 😍💖🌻☀️

Brlliant you gotta like Hogarth and I'm a big fish fan
I totally agree I HATE IT when there allways comparing with P.F. or Genesis or whatever, sure there are influences but thats good for growth.
Marillion is in my humble opinion better then Pink Floyd!! PEACE
Certainly more consistent.
Steve Rothery's main influences (he claims):
David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
Steve Hackett (Genesis)
Andy Latimer (Camel)

anyone knows the musical instrument he has in his hands ?
Sif basically it is a small MIDI controller. He can trigger samples and play small keyboard parts with it. When he started out with Marillion he used gloves with triggers so every time he touched something a note / sample was heard. Those triggers however didn’t last long due to corossion caused be sweat. What is Steve H playing halfway through?
It’s a cricket bat hollowed out and has MIDI triggers much like a keyboard could have. I just read about it. I remember the gloves for that but somehow missed seeing him use the bat later on.
Always T the side of the edge.........
