I've always heard to only buy Dicor products because they're only the best and to only buy the brown oil based clay butyl tape over the grey too.

      +jim lucas Hi Jim,
I have always had good luck with butyl tape. Dicor sells the gray butyl tape. I am not sure who manufacturers the almost black looking butyl tape. Some folks would suggest using the most appropriate colored butyl tape for the job i.e., darker around window frames and lighter around components on the RV sidewall. I noticed the darker butyl tape is thicker too and would help fill in low spots on corrugated metal sheeting. I guess it all depends who you talk to.

This one "Self-Help" video I saw showed the guy putting on 2" wide corner trim and although he used the brown butyl tape he made sure that it wouldn't squish out so that the dicor could be used on the trim first 1/4" then it squished out after he quickly reattached the trim. He also had warm soapy water to quickly clean the excess while finger tip wiping it away. He said the grey butyl tape crumbles after 7 to 10 year's.

My situation is different because I've removed and cleaned all trim in preparation of painting the whole RV so the paint covers all that anyways.
