So how do you loosen the stock plastic drain valve that comes on the Rheem Performance models in order to replace it? (the grey one)
Wish there was a place on your website we could pop in the model/serial and show compatible parts. If it's there it's very hard to find.
Well, at least He put the Teflon tape in the right way in this video.
Apparently my plastic drain valve is too clogged with sediment, so how am I supposed to drain the tank if the valve doesn't work in the first place???
You showed opening the hot water faucet a second time but you already did in earlier in the video.
Generally the big box versions have the plastic valves. Buy from a plumbing supply and you get brass . Also, the manufacturers usually use lesser parts inside on the box store versions. All in the name of saving YOU money ( in the very short run) - LOLs.
So when I know I'm going to do this, I'll turn off the gas *before* the main hot water use of the day (usually morning showers)... that way the water isn't quite so hot; plus, I'm not wasting energy heating up water that I'm just going to send down the drain.
Why do you tell us to shut off the gas at the valve? Why isn't turning it off at the heater good?
This is a good video. I wish there were a way to keep the remaining water in the tank from dripping into the water heater insulation when the drain is removed. I'm using a fan to dry it now.
I haven’t seen that kind of drain valve in my lifetime. As far back as I recall, they’re all the big plastic hand type. That’s what’s on this rheem pos I have dripping all over the place right now. That’s what the previous one had. That’s what the Montgomery ward one I replaced in the guest house in the late 2000s that was probably installed in the 1960s or early 70s had. Sigh.
My Rheem water heater came with a plastic drain valve. Well after two years it just recently started to leak. I called Rheem directly last week and they sent me one free of charge like the one in the vid. My plumber friend said he would come next week and replace it but i'm tempted to try it myself. Anyway if your water heater is still under warranty, call Rheem directly.
@@M70.00 Exact same experience. Doing it my self tomorrow.
Yeah they try to make it look like they didn’t manufacture the heater with the pos plastic valve. I’m replacing my leaking plastic one today. Typical douchebag company that I won’t do business with again.
Remove a faucet to install the same style? too damn stupid.
