    Vinegar, water, and a drop or two of dish detergent works fine too. You don't even need the lid, as the detergent reduces the surface tension and the flies can't get out once they fall in.

      This, i work in pest control professionally....this works. Though you can do just straight red apple cider vinegar and a drip of dish soap. Dont even need the water

      But her way is the cheapest way and fruit flies are attracted to citrus so it kind. It is a perfect trap. I’ve tried your way also, but wasn’t as accurate.

    Need to get rid of the source that keeps attacking them in the first place or you’re just going to keep getting fruit flies with this.

    I seem to remember reading an article that microwaves don't harm fruit flies as much as you'd think they should. Might be misremembering that tho...

      You're thinking of ionizing radiation. MythBusters tried irradiating various bugs and fruit-flies fared better than cockroaches but not as well as flour beetles. Microwaves heat water, so every living thing will heat up and incur damage.

    The fruit flies will start reproducing in the container. Pretty soon it'll be so full that many of them will find the exit hole.
    The best way to get rid of flies is to remove their source of food. Don't leave stuff sitting around on the countertop.

    • @jmanrock11
      @jmanrock11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, if you leave them in the container for days but if you nuke in the microwave once a day I don’t think they’ll be reproducing

      When I took Biology in uni, fruit flies were the subject of a couple bio labs. If you leave the thing for weeks, you might get adults from eggs (depends on temperature and food availability, we used pure sugar syrup).
      Just swap the thing out before a week has passed and you won't have any problems.

    Back in high school biology we had a competition who could make the best trap. Of course we won. Supplies that banana that's on your counter and starting to over ripen , a mason jar , Phillips screw driver and a hammer (your fist may be better) , just out the banana inside the jar then seal puncture the lid with several holes but you just want the tip to go through enough to open a small hole reason I said fist , it allows them in but none will escape!
