    I'm may be the most insane of all haha. I studied the BSc. Chemistry and BSc. Chemical Engineering , I did both because I couldn't decide which one was better for me haha no regrets. Last year I graduated from MSc. Biotechnology in which I studied bioreactor engineering, biosepration engineering, modeling of biological systems, I did my research in transport phenomena of proteins in an ion exchange chromatographic column. Now I'm about to start my PhD in Chemical Engineering, I will be working in a project related to synthesis, optimization, control and intensification of processes and bioprocesses. Very nice video Manuel! keep on going with this kind of content! :)

      Hello Luis, I've got a question: I'm currently taking a bachelor degree in Pure Chemistry but I'm afraid I'm not going to enjoy my future work as a chemist, so I was wondering If I would be able to complete my studies with a major degree in chemE.
      I'm from Italy, here a bachelor degree is usually 3 years long and a major is 2 more years.
      Last question, would I be considered as equal as a chemical engineer who took the common 3+2 chemE studies? Do workplace look forward that? Thanks in advance for any answer

    • @luisdominguezproblemasdein8072
      @luisdominguezproblemasdein8072 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tchem Hello!, regarding your first question, I recommend you to talk with the department coordinator. They may require you to take some extra courses related to transport phenomena, reactors and unit operations. Nowadays is very common to see Chemists doing majors in ChemE and vice versa. If you are crazy enough (as I do) you could study both bachelors (at the same time may be) and then study the major in whichever you liked the most, consider that this option requieres more time and money to spend. Regarding your last question, I have seen that most of companies do not care to much about your curricula, they are more interested in your expertise.

    • @ChemicalEngineeringGuy
      @ChemicalEngineeringGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@luisdominguezproblemasdein8072 Indeed, expertise is way more important, and if you are new, they will fit you into either chemistry or engineering jobs

    • @tchem
      @tchem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Luis Gil @Chemical Engineering Guy thank you both for your answers.
      Studying both bachelors would be great, if only I had enough money...so I'm probably gonna ask the department coordinator about any extra course I'd have to take.
      By the way, I had no clue that chemist and chemE taking each others major was actually a thing, that gives me so much joy and determination 💪🏻

    Great video! As an 34 years old chemical engineer - guy, I could suggest that achieving a master degree totally worth it only if it's related of the field you're working on. For example, in my case, I work for an environmental consultant so I'm doing a post graduate studies (which isn't a master obviously) in environmental law and I'm thinking to go into post graduate studies but in natural resources law.
    As you can see, as chemical engineers we can go for almost whatever field of study you are interested and not necessarily being 100% related to chemical engineering or engineering it all, but as I said depends of the work field you would like to go (or field that you are able to find a good job, essentially)

    • @ChemicalEngineeringGuy
      @ChemicalEngineeringGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think masters are now almost a requisite... I will encourage most ppl to eventually persue it if possible.. I know life happens and it can be hard to keep studying due to $,Time, convenience, life choices... but, if you can do it, do it as it will help you to advance in your career. Regarding ML and AI, it is a MUST as we ChemE do not have anything on that, it will be pretty hard to land a job on that and if so, you will need to study by your own hehe XD... On the 2nd degree... as stated before, if you have time, and are willing to do it, its no harm, but if you are losing time on your career, I will recommend you to keep working rather than the 2nd degree... In the end, its all about personal choices

    Hi there I absolutely love your videos! I'm doing my BSc in chemE and I want to move to Canada right after and the sensible route would be getting my masters there.I wanted to do a masters in ChemE but everyone says it'll be difficult finding a job after because I would be overqualified for all entry level positions and it'll be almost impossible as I'll be an international student with little to no work exp. because even the Canadians themselves can't find chemE jobs these days.Since my main priority is better job opportunities people are advising I do a masters in data science instead,but I don't know what I'm getting myself into.And how is the job market for data scientists with a bachelor's in ChemE or my background wouldn't matter and I'll be doing generic data science work??What do you advise please?

      Not quite sure on the "overqualified" aspect of a master degre... As stated, the MSc will be the door to Canada, so I would definetively go for that option if I have no other way to go to Canada... don't care about what they say about jobs, its always easier to find a job as a master thesis/internship working on projects than as a recent grad.... Masters is quite different from bachelor... it is "easier" in the sense that it is focused towards projects and so... not that much towards exams. In my opinion, either go for a master if: you love the field (studying it) or if you like the industry application of the field (i.e. there is a lot of good paid jobs)

    What is your opinion on getting bachelor's and going immediately into industry then going back to school for masters and PhD after working for some time? One of my professors said he thinks that's not very likely for one to do that bc once you're in industry making money you won't want to come back to school but to me it kinda seemed like he was being really negative.

    • @ChemicalEngineeringGuy
      @ChemicalEngineeringGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually a video I'm preparing... My personal opinion is to GO first and get a job... You are studying stuff that you don't know how are used in the industry! You will have a better interpretation of study once you get an idea of the industry. The thing on the $ is true... once you are living the "good life" you will most likely not want to go back and study 3-5 years for a PhD so that is also true.. but if you are commited... no one will stop you! I think your professor is not negative, much more in what he sees in university, lots of students like you wanting to pursue a PhD and eventually never going for it... just statistics
