Bro, When my wife and mother-in-law came to the state, they did the same thing, cutting in line and walk too close to other people. I had to tell them in America we have personal space honey.
1. We actually have kitchen table. However, when we have guests, we often have meal on the floor because there's not enough seats for everyone, and space to place dishes (Vietnamese serve their guests with more food than daily meal). 2. I don't judge the old one, but i think queueing is more common in young generation who acquired queueing culture from other countries. 3. When someone said you're fat(in vietnamese), you can understand differently. If you're really fat, they think you should reduce (i know it's hurt, but they don't really mean to hurt you). If you were so slim, and just have gotten fat a little bit recently, they think you get healthier. That's considered to be a compliment
That why we said Vietnamese is really hard to understand like in Vietnamese rock is đá but kick is also đá. I don't really understand it even thought I'm Vietnamese
@@twoface2346 since thing are pronoun the way it written it basically like the whole to, too, two stuff which all have different meaning but due to the way the language work at least you could make it have some different with Vietnamese thing are written the same way they are pronoun so it do look confusing

Since I had lots of free time I went to Home Depot and bought a hand held water handle and installed it at my sisters toilet, at the time she thought that was weird. Hello Phuc from California! I used to do toilet #2 with the squad version back then in Vietnam, and I was shocked when I first came to the state taking toilet #2 with the sitting version. Also, American don't sleep on the floor even for campers with compacted converted camper van is stuffed in with a bed.
My family still eats at the table for 6, and only when there are too many people, like during holidays, (usually about 20-30 people), the mats are used. Yes, you are in an Asian country where it is very important to gather relatives on special occasions. And because Vietnam has a lot of young people, families often have a lot of children, so sitting on the ground will have many benefits, such as you will not have to worry too much about the children falling. #5 is very true! I'm a naturalized Vietnamese-American guy, living in the West Coast and I saw that sensitivity starting around the year 2000. Nowadays, I have to watch every thing that I say and do... It's hard for a Vietnamese person like me.
Im Vietnamese but i was living in chile for 4 years for work, during that time i try to get used to using toilet papers for one months but it still quite awkward. When i was walking around the china town part of Santiago i found a indonesian shop that sell a toilet water hose and a adapter for the toilet pipe they use in chile. I brought it and install at my apartment and for the rest of the 4 years i was living there i didn't have no sore backside. Still buy Toilet paper since to vietnamese, it just cheap napkin anyway.
Hilarious outlook on differences, I met my wife and her family 12 years ago in Bien Hoa and everything you said happened to me 🤣. I'm a big boy 6'1 235 so eating on floor ain't happening, tiny plastic stools , I actually broke a plastic chair at resteraunt hehe. I love Vietnam, and will retire there next year now that covid is about done, A big shock for me was the early morning music playing over loud speaker, no sleeping in. Love your videos, tks for the laugh,
I guess its because we need more space. Unlike in America where meals usually on the table with not so many people. Even parties in America nowadays tend to go self serving or buffet kind of way. In Vietnam, our family parties tends to have many members and sometimes friends attend, especially death day anniversary, Tet holiday or a family gathreing. We also put every single dish with utensils and beverage out so we need lots of space and a table or two wouldn't be enough. Besides, we enjoy eating on the floor as its cozyness since all will have a chance to speak, to eat the same thing including kids.
Your videos are amazing! Your last one about the honesty is my favorite. Living in Japan and being from the states, 2 countries where you can't be honest, but sugarcoat everything, it only says to the person you're talking to that they, nor yourself, are mature enough to see the world as it is, but slightly alter your words to make them feel better about a bad situation, whoch hurts them more in the long run. When I was bigger, and I wanted to lose weight, but I didn't but action behind my words, my friends called me a fat f*ck, not because I was fat, but because they knew I had a goal but was BSing myself out of it. Love you man!
1. Usually we eat dinner at the floor due to the insufficient chair and table, now with an ever growing country, we now have enough seats for everyone to enjoy their meal which is great. 2. Chopsticks overall are just like spoon, it is convenient and more usable than fork in my opinion, it is ironic how i always wanted to use a fork as a child now i am just preferring Chopsticks over all silverware. 3. Oh i relate to this one a lot, whenever i uses the bathroom, i always look for a spare toilet roll just incase the current one expired, we used to NOT use it, but after time, we realized the necessity of toilet paper and add it to our lives. 4. Personally and surprisingly, i rarely ever witness a line skipper, most people in my region don't want to be a total jack ass and we are really ambiguous when thought of committing any faulty act. 5. Hell yeah, you're fat, his fat, who the hell cares. That's just another visual fact about you, not another failure you show. Anyways, yeah it really do be like that, people in general in Vietnamese are Absolutely cold blooded when it comes to Telling facts to anyone.
The way you compare differences is so hilarious and witty :). About queuing culture, it's better now especially with the young generation although lots of things still need to be improved. If those things happen, just simply talk to that guy "pls queue in line, don't you see others queuing?" in a serious manner though you may receive bullet eyes :D, just ignore it.
Smashed the like button and thanks for the interesting and funny video upload Hurley. You, your wife and Bingo enjoy life and stay safe out there in Saigon, South Vietnam!
Us too, we have airline tickets for 26th April from Sydney, Australia. Hope they speed up their vaccination rates with all the vaccines western countries are sending. Australia is sending heaps to them in Dec.
Great observations! Except for the toilet one, which I assume is an exaggeration to make it a funny point. Vietnamese people do use toilet paper, in addition to the bidet (I’m pretty sure the invention of the bidet came after toilet paper in Vietnam!) so don’t worry about having to bring your own tp 🧻 to Vietnam if you’re planning a visit 😅
Thinking about going to stay in Vietnam for a few months. I can deal with everything you mentioned, (even love chop sticks) but I think the humidity might kill me. I overheat as it is in the mid US.
Ở Việt nam có rất nhiều người yêu quý phúc mập , hài hước và rất nhiệt tình nói tiếng Việt ❤️ In the Vietnam there are many people who love Phuc Map , funny and very enthusiastic to speak Vietnamese❤️
As an overseas Vietnamese, re-learning my native language, I appreciate the videos and the channel! Very entertaining, informative, and educational. As for the point regarding the brutal honesty, I think this lacks significant nuance. It is unfair to compare how Vietnamese may be brutally honest about one's physical appearance than than how safe spaces operate, where the latter is intended for marginalized students to be able congregate and express themselves without being further marginalized. I think that the points can be both educational and informative, however, when sweeping generalizations are made, this is where I would suggest that context and nuance is absolutely necessary.
I have got to say, the last 2 examples were hilarious and very true. My mom absolutely hate the Chinese and she was 86 years old. Americans are so sensitive these days , it is getting ridiculous. Truth hurts but it is what it is. Excellent content Hurley , you had me laughing😂😂
1. Cut in line is my biggest pet peeve. The older Vietnamese people still do that here in the U.S. I tell them the line is way in the back. I don’t care if they’re elders. I have places to go too. 2. Americans are too overly sensitive these days. If you say something too conservative and mildly offensive or not align with popular opinions, woke people on social media will find you. You’ll be canceled. I abhor cancel culture.
Hello, I really like your channel ^^. If my memory serves, I had met you while studying at VUS. Anyways, I hope you soon reach 1 million subscribe. HAVE A GOOD DAY, MAN ^^
Brutal honesty is what my wife and I like about Vietnam and SE Asia in general. Not everything is racist, people, sometimes it's just plain true. I am a very tall hairy Australian. A lady walked up to me in Cambodia and grabbed my arm hair and then called her family to come see. I just laughed as I know they can't grow hair. Imagine if that happened in our snowflake Western world. It would be labelled as racist and rude. I was treated like a god with my thick long curled up mustache, and many Vietnamese wanted photos taken with me. My wife got into a altercation with a Vietnamese man trying to push himself, his wife and kids in front of us in a line. She also would stop Chinese tourists pushing in front of her. Forget culture, no way can you ever push in line, that's crossing the line too much.
When I was a kid in VN. A family from Australia came and shopped at my parents' store. I remembered that I stood there and starred at their beautiful colored eyes. It was just honest and innocent behavior. As people are getting more touchy, they lose that child like carefree and innocent. I laughed at the hairy story....thanks for sharing!
Like someone here has pointed out, the kitchen table is rather personal to the family. Also because the kitchen itself is relatively small. The living room, however, is where most activities occur and where the guests come, so it's like the face of the family and hence usually the largest, most well decorated room in da house. When the relatives, friends or colleagues come by for a treat, we often choose the living room, sit down and eat. It's very cozy that way. For the queueing, that's basically a local "cuisine". The people haven't really progressed through the industrial age, so it's "everyone for himself" kinda sorta situation. That said, nowadays kids learn new stuff fast. They could get violent with those who jump the queue. That's a good sign.
Hm, a southern accent vs northern. It's more polite and common to say "đau bụng quá" (my stomach achés" whenever you need to use the restroom. Yeap, there will be bound lots of culture shocks whenever we travel abroad. Good luck with your stay!

The whole honesty thing...LOL! Yeah, they are brutally honest, but it's not really meant to hurt you. They just see it as matter-of-fact. However, I recall a friend going back to Vietnam and how everyone was talking about her weight and it pissed her off. She became too sensitive living in the US and took on the weight comments as something mean vs just Viets being honest. You just got to learn to throw it back with humor is all.
OMG, Just visiting Vietnam for 1 month back in 2015 I had that whole experience, with the exception of Chopsticks. 🙂 I would add the sea of scooters was a shell shock to me and by the end of the first day my butt killed me riding in the back of one. 🤕

It’s not in Vietnamese culture to eat on the floor. I guess is depending on the family and their background.
Oh yes it is. Only royalty eat on table.
I've seen many instances in videos where Vietnamese eat on the floor, but I wouldn't say all Vietnamese eat on the floor.
Yea.
oh yes it was and still is :D
Thanks for enjoying my videos
Love this video man! Keep up the hard work!!
Thanks! Will do!
Cảm ơn Phúc Mập.
Kênh của bạn là một nơi để học tiếng Anh thú vị đấy, hôm nay lần đầu tiên mình biết đến kênh này và clip đang xem này là cái thứ 2.

Best video ever! Didnt even know about the Chinese comparison tip LOL this is awesome
Glad you liked it!!
I've learnt some more Vietnamese!! Love this new format where you teach us some phrases and words!! Thanks Phúc!!
Happy to hear that! That's the plan from here on out
Your English is very good as a Vietnamese, I am impressed !!!
Thanks for checking it out
Smashed the like button and thanks for the interesting and funny video upload Hurley.
You, your wife and Bingo enjoy life and stay safe out there in Saigon, South Vietnam!
Thanks as always pal 👍
Another educational and bloody funny video, keep up the good work, hanging out for the boarders to open to get back there.
Thanks for watching, more to come soon. See ya in 6/2022!
Us too, we have airline tickets for 26th April from Sydney, Australia. Hope they speed up their vaccination rates with all the vaccines western countries are sending. Australia is sending heaps to them in Dec.
Love it, Phuc Map!
Keep posting video, and chuc mung nam moi!
Will do, thanks!
Informative and entertaining...per usual. Cam on.
Thanks for checking out the video
Năm mới chúc Phúc Mập và gđ mạnh khoẻ trong mùa Covid-19 nha, ôi xem video của P cười đau cả bụng 🤣
Omg, im cracking up so hard 🤣🤣🤣 thank you for your work Phúc Mập!!!
Keep up the good work.
Love ur channel
Thank you so much!
loved the video bro! you nailed it with all the differences
More to come, couldn't fit all of them into just 1 video
Phúc mập giỏi quá . Biết nói tiếng việt là 1 điều phi thường
Thinking about going to stay in Vietnam for a few months. I can deal with everything you mentioned, (even love chop sticks) but I think the humidity might kill me. I overheat as it is in the mid US.
Ở Việt nam có rất nhiều người yêu quý phúc mập , hài hước và rất nhiệt tình nói tiếng Việt ❤️
In the Vietnam there are many people who love Phuc Map , funny and very enthusiastic to speak Vietnamese❤️
Glad you could resonate with them. Hope to have some more entertaining videos coming out here soon!
You and me both brother!!!
So I have to travel with TP? Great Video, love it. Thanks for the knowledge.
Personally, I never go anywhere without baby wipes
My wife always has tissues and hand sanitizer in her bag when travelling.
Good job Man ! Wish u always be happy and lucky in Life ! All the Best to U and Ur family !
Thanks bud

HI PHUC MAP,

CREATE THIS CLIPS, ,

Love this video you very honest Phuc
7:46 And don’t forget in parkings too with motorbikes !!! 😅
Làm nhiều video nữa đi Phúc những video của em thật hài hước thú vị . chúc em và gđ sức khỏe hạnh phúc 👍
Damn, your knowledge about Vietnam is even more accurate than my knowledge
Phúc nói giọng nam đáng yêu thật sự í :333
Nice video Phuc Map
Thanks for the tips!

1 phần do điều kiện kinh tế, 1 phần gia đình đông người, 1 phần do không gian sống hẹp
tôi cũng mới ngồi bàn đc 1 năm nhưng giờ lại thích ngồi sàn hơn rồi. Ngồi sàn vẫn có cái gì đó rất thoải mái.
Your videos crack me up I follow your ig too and noticed you had my friend’s brother jay ho in one video we used to party in Texas when he resided out here
Small world and thanks!
Can we also point out the fact that there is a motorbike in the living room as you film this 😁😆
I’m about that life 😅
Good video Phuc Map! I didn't know you can do Asian squat lol
Thanks pal, but it took quite a bit of yoga to achieve that
So true. The tiny stools...after I sat down, I needed help to stand up.
Chúng tôi luôn yêu những người hiểu văn hóa VN như bạn.
Excellent points please stay safe everyone
Appreciate it!
I so like travel and everything about cilp of you it work for me no sad
Damn, living with your entire in-law family under one roof, RESPECT. I'm VN and I could never do that
get used to it after awhile
Hi Phúc mập from Australia. Love your videos, I cannot stop laughing from the beginning to the end of the video. Great work bro. Keep it up.
Glad you enjoyed it, more to come!
Bravo! Good observations
You're speak Vietnamese very well!!! Well done 👍
Wow, thank you!
Omg that “Everybody Poops” book was my favorite when I was learning to read 🤣🤣🤣
The whole honesty thing...LOL! Yeah, they are brutally honest, but it's not really meant to hurt you. They just see it as matter-of-fact. However, I recall a friend going back to Vietnam and how everyone was talking about her weight and it pissed her off. She became too sensitive living in the US and took on the weight comments as something mean vs just Viets being honest. You just got to learn to throw it back with humor is all.
1 vid : good
2 thumbai : good'
3 edit : good
4: voice: funny
5 :did i sub : yes
Appreciate that 🙌🏻
I'd also mention not trying to curb noise. In VN noise is EVERYWHERE.
Nice video. I'm Vietnamese and now I know what to say to those cut in line people. Haven't tried it yet but seems pretty useful to me.
Thanks for sharing!
OMG, Just visiting Vietnam for 1 month back in 2015 I had that whole experience, with the exception of Chopsticks. 🙂
I would add the sea of scooters was a shell shock to me and by the end of the first day my butt killed me riding in the back of one. 🤕
There are definitely some hurdles to get past, but it's worth it in the end
This was great! New subscriber!!
Thanks for checking out the channel, hope you enjoy the rest of the content!
You and Dustin are so awesome. Haha.
U r so correct and I love this video so keep it up
Glad you agree!
Good job Mr.Phúc.
I have been staying in Vietnam for few years. Wanted to ask how did you learn Vietnam language
My family has never sat on the floor to eat before so this seems really foreign to me as well and I’m Vietnamese
Come back to the motherland and find out
@@phucmapvlog I’m dying to go brother !
Anh Phúc thật là hài hước
Haha you're right about it bro,
Same with me I'm from Australia and I'm married to Vietnamese woman and I'm not speaking Vietnamese fluently like you which made it harder for me to interact with my wife family:))
Thanks for sharing
