I went to rc in December and loved it. Im from
Kansas city Missouri and drove 11 hours there. Just 6 of those hours was me going through sd. To me when i think of city i was thinking like bigger cause im use
To the sky scrapers here. Rapid city gave me small town vibes. And the accent was sort of flat.. just something i noticed from i guess being “southern.” Driving through downtown and walking felt so safe. In comparison to kansas city. They have those mountain trees that we dont have and i love those. I noticed everyone drives really fast as well. The speed limit would be 70-80 and i found myself always going 65 cause we dont usually have speed limits that high. I was concerned that the curves by the mountains and stuff would say 45 and in kansas city if we had turns like that they are 25. So it was a bit scary. When i came back i was speeding everywhere on accident because i got used
To rc! Its always windy. It would be 60 degrees and i wouldnt bring a jacket forgetting that the wind would make it colder there. The roads constantly go up or curve. In kansas city its mostly flat land so that was drastically different for me. I felt like i could touch the sky the clouds were so low. The air was very dry which made it hard to sleep. I didnt even want to go back home but i have a lease to finish up then im moving there. Absolutely beautiful.

Hey I'm glad I found you my husband and I are in our late 30s and we have two kids and we're from Northern California and we can only afford a tiny cottage we have no space and we're thinking of relocating to South Dakota. The only thing I'm leery about is that California's have a really bad rap with people in the rest of the country. We're just regular working class people doing our best and our son's room is a walk-in closet. I mean we need a drastic change and South Dakota looks absolutely amazing. I'm forwarding my husband all of your videos because I'm trying to convince him to let us move so we can have some space. We love the landscape and we love everything about South Dakota pretty much ticks all of my must boxes. Safe, clean, beautiful, conservative, decent to good schools, affordable, low population. It just looks so amazing

I'm a retiree from New Jersey. No state tax on my pension! The most important thing for me was to not have any more of my hard earned money taken by incompetent politicians. I live in Rapid City and anybody who comes from the New Jersey metropolitan area will love it here. Every store you ever needed is literally within ten minutes of my apartment on the edge of the city. No traffic. No crime. It's a modern day city and a very polite society. As a former military cop and son of a police officer it is great I am allowed to arm myself. I've been carjacked and I've been mugged in Jersey and was defenseless both times. They broke bones in my buddies face when they ripped him out of our car and pummeled him while robbing him. They actually took his Nike sneakers! That stuff doesn't go on here like it does in Jersey. Why Jersey people allowed politicians to disarm The People is something I never could understand.
The people are friendly here as well. Property taxes are super low. Plenty of housing. I'm only 58 years old (retired Laborer) and have my pick of decent paying jobs. Maybe this young man knows more about the pricing of real estate, however, the properties I looked over were very affordable. We may differ on our definition of "reasonable" when it comes to prices is all. Either way, I'd trust him on real estate far more than I'd trust myself. Just my two cents. I'm used to Jersey prices.
I've spent two winters here so far. I know you guys back in Jersey are wondering about that. I grew up in Hawthorne and I can tell you it snows more in North Jersey than it does here. I'm not kidding. You'll get, say, five inches here and in two days it's gone. It never stays around for some odd reason. The only thing about the winter here is it is about one month longer than Jersey. Starts getting "winter" cold in October rather than November. The temperatures are about the same. It's winter. If you're from Jersey I'm telling you it ain't nothin'. Trust me.
The Black Hills are beautiful and they are right there. Try going to the Palisades Park on a Saturday in the summer and see what happens. Or Battery Park. Here you have none of the headaches. No traffic. No parking ripoffs. No carjacking. No car break-ins to speak of. The scenery is beautiful and really accessible. There is also an airport that takes about 15 minutes to drive to and you won't struggle through traffic or deal with the standard parking nightmare you do at Newark or Kennedy.
I love it here. You will too.
I'll answer any questions you Jersey/New Yorkers have. You New Yorkers gotta pay $12 each though. That was what I paid the last time I crossed the GWB. It's only fair.

@@talent103 ---Well, they have a pretty good bus system from what I can tell. I own a vehicle so I can't really answer. No subway of course. They have cabs and Uber here as well. There are many car dealers in this city and the insurance for me is $38 dollars a month compared to $75 a month I paid in Jersey. If you can afford a cheap used car you would be golden. Gas prices are also much cheaper than the NY/NJ area by far.

He left off the fact that the government doesn't tell you what to do. We have a true leader as a Governor. She upholds the constitution of both SD and the US. No mandates to wear masks, but a request we use good hygiene and do what's right. If you are leaving a "blue" state, think long and hard about Why you are leaving and please don't bring the problems you leaving, here.

I grew up in SD and was honestly didn't know Jewish communities existed in the US. So it has a lot of positives but Jewish community is not one of them.

To be honest, they really aren’t too bad. We will get a lot of snow a couple times a year, and then it will melt off within the next week.

There are mosquitoes in summer, and occasionally we get a wet summer and then they’re a lot more prominent. But nothing like Canada or Alaska.

I've been to Rapid well over a hundred times for work. Its a beautiful city. You will have to over look the ultra conservative bible bangers though. They need to open up Deadwood more like drinking on the streets. A real wild west town with ultra restrictive rules. And I wouldn't exactly call Rapid a mountain town. I would think Custer ,Hill City ,Hot Springs and Deadwood will fit that bill better.
