Again, Ranar doesn’t create one spirit per turn, he creates one spirit each time you exile 1+ cards. So one every time you foretell, one every time you suspend or when you path to exile, every time you blink one or more creature(s), etc...
Thank you for this. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a Guided By Nature elf precon a few months ago. I’m excited to tune it in with this precon to make Magic happen. 😁
@@RobMedellin opening hand was Jeweled Lotus, Forest, Llanowar Elves, Heritage Druid, Fyndhorn Elves, and Elvish Mystic...Card 8 was a forest, and card 9 was coat of arms T1 Jeweled Lotus > Forest > Lathril T2 Heritage Druid > Swing with Lathril > Llanowar elves and his 2 clones T3 Forest > tap the 3 Dorks and 2 forests to play coat of arms > Attack with Lathril (7 Elves by now so Coat of arms buff was +6/+6) make 8 more
I would love to see a video around Jorn, God of Winter since he is the first commander who cares about snow cards so much. I think a self mill amd recursion play style would be fun with him.
For some time I had been toying with the idea of building an elf deck out of what cards I had on hand, but couldn't decide whether I wanted to build a 60 card deck or a commander deck. When Commander Legends came out and I saw Abomination of Llanowar, I decided that if I got this card in a booster pack, I'd make an elf tribal commander just using cards I already had. I got Abomination of Llanowar in a booster shortly after that and built the deck. Then the Elven Empire deck was previewed and I thought ok the commander would fit well into my deck, but I want to know what else is in the deck. Well now that I know, I can say quite a few of the reprints were cards I had earmarked that would be nice for an elf deck. All in all, looks like a good buy to improve my existing elf deck.
Longtime (12+ yrs) Elfball player here. I agree that the new legend finally gives you a good reason to not be mono-green. It gives your deck another angle of attack besides the redzone, which helps vs. quite some archetypes. Another benefit of adding black is that it gives you more resilience from boardwipes (think Patriarch's Bidding, Prowess of the Fair, etc.) As for the mentioned cards.. meh. The Dreadlorde is not good. Being a creature-combo deck, you have better stuff to do then clear their board. And please. Include Regal Force. It's so much better than the garbage new black spell. Also forget about Throne of the God-Pharaoh. Being pro-active is the key. Thousand-Year Elixir is an auto-include, unlike Staff of Domination (which is winmore). Props for mentioning Caller of the Claw though. Card is a pet favourite. Ps. Get Realmwalker. Card is good.
Really forget about Throne? It is probably one of the best cards that you can include in an Elf trlbal deck, and it is even budget friendly. It can come out as soon as turn 2 (Or turn 1 with Sol Ring if you are living the EDH dream), and it will turn all of your mana dorks into pingers, which will slowly drain your opponents, but just for a while, the "slowly" part of the sentence will disappear in a few turns, and after that it will drain your opponents for a TON, and after that there will be no one else to drain anymore.
@@P4CCHU in play groups throne doesn’t last long especially with mine when everyone runs some sort of green and blue especially if they know what you’re doing with it
If you have upgraded this deck I think torment of hail fire goes in this deck because if you can create a ton of mana then that card can win you the game out of no where also illusionist bracers can double lathril’s ability also alpha’s authority protect’s lathril with hexproof and makes lathril basically unblockable
I can see people playing this as a deck that you want to tap your elves for value and Untap them at the end of each turn. I have a merfolk deck that does the same and it is surprisingly good and would fit well with this commander
We still need a bant merfolk commander. Honestly I wouldn’t be opposed with C21 being tribal decks. It’ll hopefully have some staples for tribes that desperately need reprints
I would definitely add Elvish Warmaster. With Wolverine Riders, this makes 2 elf warrior tokens every upkeep. If you then wanna go crazy start adding token doublers...
When this deck got spoilt, i had a look for upgrades i wanted to do in my collection and realised i had about 98% of the deck i wanted to build just lying around in my collection. I did end up getting the deck for my older brother,
Just before Kaldheim spoilers, I built a Kethis Elf deck that focused not on producing mana but constantly flooding the board with high-value, synergistic elves, green, black, and Golgari. I thought it was set. Then the details spilled out. Harald feels kinda a dud for the deck, and I don't really like planeswalkers. Kaldheim does have a lot of straight upgrades though, which I'll have to fit in.
Going to transition out of Ezuri into this dude at some point this year. Been playing since Llorwyn, and I started the game with Green/Black Elves as my first deck. Giving Elves meaningful access to Black opens up their utility a lot.
I like using Ashaya Soul of the Wild, Seedborn Muse as honorary Elves. Ashaya with Ezuri around can allow your non-token elves to simply tap and regenerate and with Wilderness Reclamation on the battlefield your non-token elves untap. Elves and untapping shenanigans/durdling can be quite funny. Can't wait to add new cards to my Abomination of Llanowar deck :P
@@fnb2311 that can get powerful quick and if you want lathril would still be great seeing as najeela cares about warriors and although elves they are still warriors which makes najeela even better
Great video, love elves and dragonshield, but you are wrong about Harvest season. It's great in elf decks, super high synergy with mana dorks and aggro strategies which are also go wide creature based.
May want to reread Pact, the damage and card draw is based on the number of creatures that the target player controls. You can’t use it the way you suggested early in the vid.
If you have 5 elves on field it will give her plus 5 more power allowing her to create 7 more elves she not trying to outright kill a person with commander damage she's making more elves so you can use her second ability as much as possible
For me at least the whole point of the deck is going for a Voltron/elf tribal tap/untap since that's what she cares about the second ability is super powerful and more reliable then going full on combat
Same, i build Abo before the precon was even spoiled, and it's an amazing commander. I'll sure add lathril to the 99, but Abo is my golden choice for a golgari elf general.
Oh yeah, i am going to change a bit of my Golgari Elf deck, and include 3 Lathrils for sure, some more token creation in it, untapping, Elf Warrior tokens, have them come in and Bramblewood Paragon give them +1/+1 and trample, done. Mercy Killing is fun, Elvish Promenade, Elven Ambush, Rhys the Redeemed. Parallel Lives, Doubling Season etc. I might buy 3-4 copies of this deck. Buying some of the cards you want seperately will surely be more expensive than 3-4 copies of this deck, and it'll give you some more candy. Not a commander deck mind you, we play multiplayer with basically anything goes, we have some nasty decks, and most times as soon as someone does something big they have a major target on their head and they die first, if we can make that happen. And we all know that, it's just fun and screwing around. We often have some banned cards still in them just for fun. Lathril, Copperhorn Stout, Elf tokens. Works.
You don't like Elvish Rejuvenator? He may be not Wood Elves, but he's on par with Farhaven Elf, in my opinion. Like Bounty of Skemfar, he can find any land, not just basics. But I would advise against going below 38 lands in a deck with these in it.
Pact of the Serpent says "x is the number THEY control of the chosen type." So you can't use it to kill unless that opponent is playing a go-wide tribe also. Sorry!
But it says choose target player. Can't you target yourself as the target player? If it said target opponent, then yes. But you should be able to target yourself.
well elves have always made a bunch of elve tokens so its kinda new to use them for sacrifice shenanigans golgari elves hadnt had a good golgari commander until now so thats new as well

Here'sa quick seret tech Vines of Vastwood. Protects our commander from spot removal and also can add 4 more elves with Lathril trigger
I was able to test play Lathril a bit, managed to produce 15+ elves by turn 3 during an amazing opening hand
How?
I can easily imagine 15+ elves at end of turn 5... But by turn 3??
