I agree whenever people were close to you. You felt like they were gonna just hug you or touch you. It was really cool though because I felt like I was in the sub with everyone most of the time I would love to see them do another film, just like it.

This is an amazing set of constructed criticisms! I watched this short film on my AVP and didn’t have the words to why certain stuff scenes felt “off” to me but your explanations really helped me better understand. It was still enjoyable and I look forward to what the team learned from this! I hope they watch your video!

      So glad to hear this!!
I'm so excited to experiment with more 180 myself -- we're on the cusp of a new medium!

This has to be the best review I’ve seen on the AVP

Great breakdown! I hope someone makes a Hardcore Henry style film in VR 180. It could be interesting.

Really good. I would add that the problem of super closeups making the viewer feel uncomfortable because of personal space being invaded also applies to other immersive videos such as the Concert for One. In Submerged the moment where I disassociated completely was where my view was of the crew loading a torpedo into a tube and I was immediately above it, so the torpedo went straight through my ‘chest’. That was a crazy directorial decision. Incidentally I also thought really the whole opening sequence before the attack started was just weird, random and irrelevant. A badly thought out introduction to the story.

I think the most difficult thing with VR movies is how do you know where the person with the headset on will look, you can shoot the coolest scene but if the person was not paying attention and just looking around then it's wasted, so I can see why they would shoot most of the story elements to be dead center, and also the perspective shift for odd angles makes sense, cause most people would be watching these movies sitting or laying down and that limits the way they can move thair head to look around, and how much they can move it by.

True! One of the smartest features of 2D movies is that they don't make us turn our heads, they make us turn our attention!

Honestly this is how it probably should be: I understand the uneasiness of the camera changing angles, but the alternative would be to constantly move around your head to watch a movie - which is a big no imo. I do hope apple or whoever made this movie sees this video. There was some great constructive criticism here

Glad someone is looking at the cinematography of this medium. That’s what really killed 3D movies a decade ago was the complete failure to adapt the cinematography to the new realism of the 3D / 48fps . Very few people realized it. And many directors treated it as an after thought.

It's interesting to imagine how movies and shows really don't just have to be the same old format of sitting and watching a screen 🤔 It'd be cool if the linearity you describe could be maintained while also still allowing the audience member to actually move around the scene so that they can choose where to watch it from. And like that probably doesn't even need to apply exclusively to VR either, so it could be cool if you could for example move around as you might in a game in some kind of a 3D movie that you watch on your PC.

Well, being this close was a bit uncomfortable, but that feeling only told me i was so immersed, LOL. It's not a fail technically. it's a new possibility in filmmaking 😊.

Thanks. Maybe the movies should be more like first person Video games. The action continues when you engage?
