      He, for a long time, lost all his playing and ability, it was awful to listen to him play live in early 2000s to 2007 when he stopped. Drugs and alcohol destroyed him at that point, check it out, it was really really awful. What made him even greater is the fact that he, 7 years later, came back, sober, with his freaking ability back and sounding exactly the same like in the 80s.

      I absolutely am a huge fan of VH. However I am a massively bigger fan of Alex Van Halen. I modeled my drumming style after him. Alex and Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot drummer who also just passed recently before E.V.H. did.)
      Them 2 are my influences on my drumming skills. I never got to see VH live. I think that Alex just like Vinny Paul Abbott (Pantara drummer/founder) after his brother died a piece of him died. Alex is no different. Vinny was out of the music business for years before returning.
      I like most other drummers can only hope that he will do drum clinics thru his legendary sponsorship with LUDWIG. I doubt it but here's to hoping.
      Alex if I lost my Lil' bro (which I have & hes a awesome guitar player and person) if I lost him I don't blame you if the public eyes didn't see you on them drums again.
      Alex and Wolfgang our hearts are with you all! Thanks @alexvanhalen for the inspiration bro!

      Part of it is that it's fun music. Van Halen brought fun to hard rock. Before it was all doom and gloom, the occult, mysticism, and serious singers and guitar players. I love Led Zeppelin, but lets face it no one ever played a Zeppelin album thinking about hot girls in bikinis, cold ones on the beach, and a big, loud party in the back yard all night. Van Halen brought fun and good times to hard rock. They were serious but never really took themselves seriously. When you watched Eddie shred he wasn't wincing or putting on a gloomy face, he had the biggest smile on the planet like he was a 12 year old kid having the best fucking time of his life, and he was. That's why it's such a huge impact. He simply made everyone who watched and listened to him happy.

    • @somebodyelseuk
      @somebodyelseuk 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry, he wasn't even a good singer. Even back in the late 70s you could fudge a performance in the studio, but at Donington in '84, he was shockingly bad. Check any live bootlegs from the time... As for the old guys, Steven Tyler does okay, as does Jagger, Brian Johnson, then there's a fella who was a great friend of Elvis, he's still head and shoulders above them all, Sir Tom Jones, at 75. DLR was regarded as the weak link in VH back in '84. VH are the very definition of irony - the best guitarist coupled with the worst singer.
