► MIND BLOWN!! KLIPSCH HERESY IV Speaker Review. TOP LOUDSPEAKER in 2020
Redesigned for 2020 with an all-new crossover, improved drivers and a rear-firing bass port, the Heresy IV is a loudspeaker for the ages and likely an instant classic for the US-based brand.
The Klipsch Heresy IV speakers are beautifully designed and would make a great addition to any home audio system setup. I consider these to be some of the best reference speakers I've ever heard.

I just brought home a pair of Heresy IVs yesterday and I love them. They sound great with my Marantz NR1200. Very efficient speakers. I got a great deal because there was a tiny knick on the side of one of the cabinets. My house can be a bit echoey but these sound great. They sound amazing at low volumes. I'm very happy with them and I've never really been a Klipsch fan. TV sounds great through them as well. I couldn't quite afford the Forte IIIs that were on sale which had a little more depth and sounded a bit cleaner, but I'm very happy with these. These replaced a pair of B&W DM610s and sometimes a pair of Dunlavy SC-1s. Love your videos!

Paired with a good tube amplifier, in my case a Line Magnetic 211 iA, the Heresy IV is an absolute dream team. This plastic openness and transparency in the mid-high range is unique. I like listening to live recordings, you can literally reach into the stage.
The audiophile virtues such as resolution, localization and spatiality are also at a very high level with the Heresy IV.
Other loudspeakers, even high-quality ones, often bored me relatively quickly, but this is completely different with the Heresy IV, these are captivating and you feel like you are right in front of the stage.
You definitely shouldn't let the Klipsch haters stop you from listening to this phenomenal speaker, it's absolutely worth it.

After watching this video and sifting through a plethora of other Heresy IV reviews and videos', I decided to take the plunge. Since receiving them 2 weeks ago, I have played lofi beats, metal, jazz, folk, blues, rock, electronic, country and ambient through them. They are freaking amazing, and will be saying goodby to my Triangle, B&W's and Heco's fo sure. Source material definitely matters, yet they are still very forgiving of crappy recordings. I am not sure why some report poor base extension, as I find the H4's balanced and absolute ear candy. The Heresy IV's are the best $3500 I have ever spent, without a doubt! Glad I didn't listen to all the haters that preach measurements, and put the listening experience second. Cheers!

I bought a pair of original Klipsch Heresy back in 1980. Here is the cool part... Two houses later and I still have them in my living room. They still produce impeccable clear punchy sound without having to crank them up. They provide me with the full live sound that I love. As a testament to build quality, they are in showroom condition not because I care for them, but because of their super quality construction. BTW, your review of the new mark-4 has me jazzed. Yikes!

From about '82 on, I jumped at the chance to hear Heresys in stores/shops...simply gushed over and lusted for them. Finally, in early '90's bought a pair used. I still have them in my living room. They still produce impeccable clear punchy sound without having to crank them up. They provide me with the full live sound that I love. As a testament to build quality, they are in showroom condition not because I care for them, but because of their super quality construction....lol, sound familiar?

My Heresy IVs (powered by a refurbished Sansui G-5700) are absolutely AMAZING, and I genuinely can't imagine wanting 'more' or 'better'. I'm not really the kind of audiophile that a lot of folks are, and I'm sure that there exist better options than what I have, but for my taste my search is over. I've never heard a more detailed speaker that is simultaneously as warm and natural sounding. They can get ridiculously loud without losing anything while also sounding damn good at shockingly low volume. Plenty of bass, I have a Klipsch SPL-120SW subwoofer which is almost always off, I should've gotten a much less powerful/expensive sub, because I just don't really need it and certainly don't need nearly that much bass.

@@snowrang3r657 hmmmm not sure 🤔 My previous speakers sounded a lot more tight. Or balanced. The Heresys are very detailed in the highs with lots of air. But I miss something somewhere in the frequency range, just not sure yet what it is. Might go for a sub after all when my wallet has grown a bit again.

Loved your Klipsch review, I’ve been a fan of Klipsch since the late 70’s. My dad had a really nice pair of Advent speakers and we use to sit and enjoy music together. I saving to own the Cornwall lV’s I’d love to her you review them, even before the La Scala’s (you mentioned you were getting soon). I need to educate myself on amps, all my life I’ve owned receivers. Klipsch speakers like you stated don’t require a lot of power and my Heresy ll’s sounds unbelievable powered through my Denon AVR. I’m a new subscriber and enjoy your style of delivery with various equipment. Thank You for opening my eyes!!

The Heresy 4’s sound like they were installed in a wall then plastered over for at least a week (well, mine did anyway). Then, out of nowhere, boom. They suddenly loosened up and are absolutely singing.
Admittedly, they were “ok” with vinyl, but a reasonably high-end Auralic Altair 2.1 sounded like a paper phone.
Maybe make sure your dealer agrees to a lengthy returns period in case you can’t hold your nerve. It’s worth it, but the run-in is real with these speakers.
Everything else our boy Andrew said is on the money though - great video that helped me make the decision in the first place.

I am trying to figure out how a sub would not be required. The manufacturer specs 48Hz +/- 4dB which in my experience would mean down 6 to 8dB from the midrange. So that means is should be struggling for the low E on bass guitar and completely missing the low C on the 16' pedal stops on the organ and don't even think about the 32' pipes since you are rolling off at 24dB per 8va. Admittedly room gain will pick up some of it but I would have to hear it to believe it. Would love to get a chance some day.
I suppose it is kind of academic as I can not afford these let alone the Cornwalls. :D

Then I see your console cabinet, I search to find one similar and your BDI video comes out a week later, and now I was looking at the Sol Cast. I'll make the U-Turn away from Schiit if given the chance. Just to save some time, what tube amp are you about to review that is a perfect pairing with the high efficiency Heresy IV's? @@andrewrobinsonreviews You should reach out to Zu Audio and see if they're willing to send you a review sample of the Omen or Soul Supreme (they also have a budget version of the Omen called the Dirty Weekend that goes on sale 2x a year). They are also very efficient speakers like the Klipsch, that leads to great dynamics. Frequency response wise they are more varied than the Heresy IV or the Forte III. But an issue with horns is time alignment between the drivers, and phase issues due to crossover. The Zu speakers use a 10" full range driver then have a "super tweeter" that takes over for the notes above. This leads to a very simple crossover and thus very few phase or timing issues.
But you really seem to enjoy the high levels of dynamics these speakers provide. Zu has that but like I said you trade FR smoothness for time coherency.

I agree with most of what Andrew says, great review, I watch his channel and a huge fan of him and his wife's reviews, truly awesome. I have bought gear after Andrew's reviews in the past and have been 100% satisfied. I understand his excitement, and I bought a pair due to that excitement, they are iconic, attention to detail beautiful speakers with a rich history. However, to warn those who are here to decide if they are for you, I have to say sometimes they sound mind blowing, best I've heard ever with a smile, other times, they can sound like the most terrible speaker you've ever heard. It is expensive to send these back, they are very heavy, so, as a bottom/mid feeder audiophile, I want to warn buyers like me to hear me out. Vinyl sounds better than digital by far on these speakers, vinyl only cats out there may be happy due to the warmth vinyl provides. In a digital world, jazz recordings, audiophile staples, audio show playlist for Mcintosh, Naim, Andrew Jones and current recordings sound amazing, but older/poorly recorded tracks have zero meat on the bones. Try play recorded treasures from the 1960s such as Paul Revere and Raiders, The Animals, Kinks, etc., will rip your ears out. The bass is hit and miss on older recordings and sounds thin/unlistenable at times, which now makes you select recordings that sound good vs. your favorite music. The pounding bass in your chest is true on audiophile recordings, and they are wonderfully "live" sounding. Instrumentals only music sound fantastic, sometimes vocals by certain singers can make you squint due to the forward character of the speaker. I ran them with a multitude of tube/ss amps, solid state pre-amps, passive pre-amps, integrated amps, R2R DACS, regular DACS, all $2K and under I have in house, and it was all the same. You'll need a subwoofer if you have a highly eclectic musical taste because it is just absent on older music. If you are into today's music, and wonder into the audiophile staples of Steely Dan, Dire Straits, Diana Krall type stuff, you will absolutely be end-game. However, if you are reaching back to play all types of recordings, you'll be disappointed sometimes. I know someone will chime in and say they sound simply amazing on their Pass Labs {fill in the blank model), or some other costly gear of mass financial proportions, but that is another tier of money that bottom/mid ocean audio feeders can't afford. And if I could afford that, I would not be buying a $3K pair of speakers, I'd be looking at the top of the Heritage line. They sounded good with some vintage receivers I have with tone/loudness controls to get that bass up. Klipsch missed an opportunity here, with a 12" woofer, there is no excuse these don't go down to at least 40K to add that layer of bass that is just missing to get that full sound.

    • @ngcolby
      @ngcolby ปีที่แล้ว

You don't get insane bass with the sensitivity these have, you never will. It's a trade off. The port on the back bought another 10hz, which did make a big difference. The K-horns solve this, but are an entirely different animal to do it, and even those only go down to 33hz, and that's with a 15" woofer, and the folded horn design.
I will agree with some stuff sounding like complete crap. I will sum up everything you said with this: They are extremely revealing speakers. If you feed them poorly recorded crap, they will sound like poorly recorded crap. If the gear you have upstream is crap, they will sound like crap. The heresy's are going to give you exactly what you give them. Nothing more, nothing less.
Gonna disagree with the reviewer tho, while technically they don't NEED a sub, they definitely sound better with one like most speakers do. Find a good recording of an organ, turn your sub on and off while playing it, enough said. Heresy's are absolute winners if you like organ music, you are there with it. Almost had a religious experience tonite, and I'm not religious.

@@andrewrobinsonreviews So I may have committed heresy...I could not stop reading reviews about Magnepans so I took a ride to my (somewhat) local Hi-Fi store and auditioned them and...I fell in love with the sound. .7 Maggies ordered plus other speakers in the line to replace my HT speakers that are part of my overall system. My first Klipsch-less system is I don't know how many years.
I'm replying only because I hope someday you end up reviewing a pair!

It's been 7 months sine you ordered them, I'm hoping that you've received them and have had enough time with them to share your experience, including any amp upgrade.
I'm thinking that @Andrew Robinson and Kristie wouldn't have a problem with you doing that here. ;)

    • @videoproboston2450
      @videoproboston2450 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lt1nut Hi,
Sure. I did receive them and they were delivered about nine weeks after ordering and just after being diagnosed with Covid! I mention that because I had to quarantine and had to stay in my Covid jail to keep my wife safe. Brand new speakers in their fresh cardboard boxes and I had to wait. Luckily my symptoms were as minor a seasonal allergies and it wasn't too long before I could set them up.
      Anyway...
I bought the .7s for my front speakers and their MC1's as my rear surrounds. I'm also using an MC1 as a center speaker and a Rythmik F12 for a sub. I'm running a Denon X4300H and a my originally purchased (in the 80's) Carver M500t power amp to power the .7 fronts. After listening to them for a while now as a two channel system and as my home theater speakers, I have no desire to go back to convectional box speakers again. The soundstage is like nothing I've heard before. Listening in stereo the music seems like it's all around me. Sometimes I have to check to see if the center speaker is off because the it sounds like the vocals are coming from it dead center in front of me. Overall I love them and it is cool to think these speakers with their thin Mylar construction is producing insanely good sound.
I'm hoping Andrew gets his hands on a pair some day because of what I think are "myths" or at least over exaggerations when it comes to buying Magnepans. I almost passed on them when I kept reading over and over again that you need a big room and they need to be at least three feet away from the wall (I've read a few time that five feet is even better) and if you don't have a V8 of a power amp you need to look elsewhere. Well I'm happy to say those rules need not be followed exactly. I by no means have them set up in their optimal way most of the time. I will pull them out more than where they rest most of the time for some critical listening, but even when I don't they still sound fantastic. I even tested them with my Denon without the Carver and it was a setup that could have kept me happy for a while. I understand they'd open up more and sound even better if I keep upgrading, but I'd say don't be afraid to try them out for anyone who'd like to give them a chance...even in a less than optimal setup. I won't even discuss what the average opinion is of using a single Magnepan as a center speaker is! :)
Whew...I feel like I went to confession. LOL!

Just picked up a pair of Heresy IV’s. Using an older Marantz 1060 integrated amp with a Bluesound Node and they are incredible. I have never had a pair of speakers jump out into the room and provide the experience that I am getting with these. Looking to add a turntable soon.
My question for you has to do with the power supply. I am really happy with the 1060 but wondering how it would compare to a newer class A/AB amp or tube amp. Is there still significantly more sound improvement that can be had?

The Heresy IV although sounding good has devolved from the original Heritage sound due to an ever increasing tractrix horn with a very shallow depth like the Cornwall IV and Forte III the "horns" of these new Klipsch speakers have become more or less wave guides. I have owned countless Klipsch speakers since 1988 including The Klipschorn, LaScalla's, Large Venue Klipsch Professional models, entire lines of Klipsch speakers due to having access to them from a friend managing a high end audio/video business. The first Klipsch speaker I ever heard was the original Klipsch Chorus with its exponential horn and it sounded fantastic. A couple years later hearing the Chorus II with its tractrix mid range I liked the Chorus I more forward, exponential horn better than the Chorus II tractrix. To make an extremely long story short the newest Klipsch models sound more like conventional- non-horn speakers due to their more wave guide - like tractrix horns. The Klipschorn still uses the exponential midrange thus it sounds more forward and more pleasing to horn speaker enthusiasts. Of the countless Klipsch speakers I have owned over the past 32 years taking many things into consideration like overall size and sound 2 of my favorite Klipsch speakers are the original Klipsch Chorus and the kg4. Unlike many posts on Klipsch forums to the contrary the Klipsch kg4 is the only 2 way Klipsch speaker they made that has no hole in the midrange unlike countless other 2 way Klipsch speakers produced over the years and has an amazing 3 dimensional sound produced by its unique horn used only in this model and a few Klipsch Tangent models. The original Klipsch Chorus has the identical drivers as the Cornwall II but a sleeker cabinet and with a subwoofer its lesser bass performance is irrelevant.

@Fisher Man your definitley right BUT ,since there not sold anymore affordably as new and cool items, the newest generations dont even know of there exitance and its a shame, were talking a whole generation who doesnt even know what good sound is and are completely content with listening to an album on there cellphone

Great review. Saving the pennies now. Will sell my Revel F206s and head for the nearest dealer (UK). Already have a Leben CS300XS heading this way. Thanks for this. Source is a Well Tempered Versalex and Dynavector 17D3. Love your outtakes too 😂
