Geto calling nonsorcerers "monkeys" is a buddha vs sun wukong aka monkey king reference. Toji called himself a monkey (sun wukong) and fought Gojo (buddha). In the actual lore, sun wukong the monkey king challenged buddha and got put in his place just as Gojo defeated Toji. Buddha pointed one finger to the sky and one down on earth and said "Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the Honored One".

The Buddha and Sun Wukong never fought. Buddha asked Sun Wukong to play a game to see if Wukong can leave his palm (the universe), and after the monkey failed, he was trapped under a mountain for 500 years

2:40 “Did they ever make mention of Tengen?” Yes, in Season one, during the inter school exchange competition, it was explained that an immortal sorcerer named Tengen reinforced all the barriers at the schools and even moved buildings around.
9:45 “What did they just say about him (Megumi)?” The elder Fushigoro said, “Oh, that’s right… I’m the one that gave him the name ‘Megumi.’” He said that right after telling the prone Geto that a monkey like him defeated all these blessed people (Gojo and Geto, and killed Riko). The word “blessed” (megumareta 恵まれた) triggered the memory of his son’s name, Megumi 恵, a girl’s name, which means “blessed/blessing.”
25:20 “Why are they clapping?” As you surmised, they are clapping because Riko’s dead body was proof that Tengen could not proceed with the assimilation. This cult worships Tengen as a god, and assimilation prevents Tengen from reaching further transcendence.

That face when you remember that Toji said he has trouble remembering the names of guys. And that Megumi is considered to be a girl's name. Toji remembering him when he thinks about blessings. Peak.
If you slam your blade through someone's skull and they don't die from that, they can just take the win. Toji was clean. He put the hands on two of the strongest sorcerers out there and completed his mission. But, Gojo evolved on the brink of death and ascended to being the honored one. Even then, he still kept fighting. Toji remembered his son and died on his feet, leaving everything to Gojo. Goated antagonist. That after credits scene. All those people clapping at seeing Riko's dead body. Crazy how Gojo was just like, "Should we just kill everyone here?" And Geto is opposed to that because there would be no meaning to all that death. Their perspectives are truly and utterly flipped right now. And that makes it all the more tragic where they end up. A world with both Geto and Gojo as enemies to mankind would be a scary sight.

Essentially (no spoilers) Gojo was in a unstable mind set where his having trouble caring about anything and he uses Geto as his moral compass in that scene, however despite being Gojo's moral compass, Geto is having trouble believing his own words. While red and blue can mean evil and good, it also can be looked at a different way, Red is the positive cursed energy that Gojo steps into, while at the last second darkness surrounds Geto as he questions himself on his own morals which could be metaphor for negative cursed energy.
Gojo could have been surrounded by darkness too but Geto pushed him towards the positive but since he is starting to doubt his own words, he is in the negative.

Gojo is the greatest OP sensei in anime. JJK perfected this type of character!

    A couple clarifications (spoiler free)
1: Megumi means Blessing. You can even hear it in the lines preceding Toji remembering his name. "You have the blessing of parentage" and "but even with blessings like that..". He remembered that he named his kid Blessing.
2: the people clapping at the end were normie cult members. All they knew was that the "impurity" in their god has been killed. (side note, the happy rhythmic clapping in the intro? thats them clapping for amanai's death)
3: I took Geto's "good" speech at the end less as an absolute moral, but rather the thread that he is clinging to. He is making a good point, (that the cult will just fall apart, now that gojo will target them) but you can tell (with the animation and voice) that its a struggle for him to believe his own words. Its almost like he was asking for a reason.
(i also like that he gave shoko a shout out when he was describing understanding reverse curse energy)
    Love your reactions :)

It's pretty clear in the last scene that the cult is applauding Riko's dead body. Since her death has prevented assimilation which they believe will lead to the rise of their God Tengen once he evolves. Both Gojo and Geto went to that room to retrieve her body, hence why it's unbelievably maddening to both of them that everyone in that room is applauding the death of the girl they spent the last few days doing everything they could to protect.
However Geto notes that all of them are regular people, they have no knowledge of Jujutsu Sorcerers or any of what's really going on, unlike the leaders of the cult who were already gone. They were essentially just ordinary religious fanatics, not the influential people who actually have power in the organisation, which is why Geto says there's no point killing them.

geto is struggling with the idea of protecting humanity if theyre like that. gojo is just in a flow state and really doesnt give a shit about anything at this point and is trying to figure out what he should care about

We're just about to circle around to the opening scene when Geto refers to this day (we did not know what he was referring to at the time)

  • @143angeli
    @143angeli ปีที่แล้ว +6

The next episode will shed a light on why Geto ended up the way he did but all the good things that he showed in the past few episodes are ironically the exact same reason why he ended up as the “villain”. Take note how he urged Gojo not to murder the people in the ending scene because there’s “no point” in doing it. That’s how logical or even uptight he is so imagine if he finds the “point/reason” to wipe away all the non-sorcerers?
So without spoiling, all I can say is Geto is one of the most beautiful, complex characters there is. If you need reference to fully understand him, think of Sensui from Yu yu hakushu (old anime). These characters are the example of what happens when “purity in ideals” i.e. defend the weak crosses with the ambiguity of morality and how a small dark stain can contaminate and overrun a pure white canvass.

the reason megumi was going to be sold off is because he has the ten shadows technique, which is the zenin family cursed technique. it's actually pretty uncommon for sorcerers from the major clans to have their family's signature technique (megumi is the only living zenin to have it as far as we know) so the zenins were willing to offer toji a ton of money in exchange for megumi in the event that megumi ended up having the technique.
it's kinda similar to noritoshi kamo (the bloodbender guy from season 1 who fights megumi), he's the official heir to the kamo clan despite being a bastard because he has his family's signature technique. so it's a pretty big deal when it comes to deciding the heir and is generally just a big status symbol, which is why the zenins were willing to buy megumi if he ended up actually having theirs.

Toji doesn’t have domain expansion because he doesn’t have curse energy and gojo can’t use his because he just got this power up.

    - x - = + (reversed curse energy that can heal).
Since he already knows how to make + energy, it will be easy to renovate that + energy become curse technique reversal: red.
Curse energy itself is -, which is the curse energy amplification /lapse/blue.

I think the reason Gojo was "high" was because of the extreme near death experience. His brain most likely flooded his whole body with a ton of substances and hormones to numb pain and suffering and relief stress and stuff (which does happens in the brain when someone dies), so that whole cocktail probably had the effects of a very potent psychotropic. The way Gojo was describing how he was feeling in the moment is practically identical to what people on an LSD "good trip" say they feel and probably throw into that the rush of exicetment from pretty much unlocking a higher state of being and for the first time being able to reverse his technique and unlock the utimate finishing move.

15:38 Geto's face/reaction reminded me of the vine of that girl walking into the kitchen and there's a toddler who turns around and says "Daddy??? and the camera turns around and she says "Do I lOok LiKe?!?"

Toji's curse calling Geto mommy is just nothing. Certain curses says different things based on what they are, and I think that curse is about the fear or sadness about unborn children
