I disagree. Her dismount was always absolutely FUCKED. Also, there have been incredible bar workers like Shilese Jones and Madison Kocian who have come after her. Nastia was incredible, but I don't think the best ever.
No one knows how good this bar routine is, I mean most of her moves are all D and E scoring elements, those pirouettes are so hard, definately deserved that score!
Nastia's Stratospheric level of skill ability and talent is staggering so that she makes a routine most wouldn't even dare to try actually look easy// I think people forget that, she's incredible
The rest of her routine was basically perfect and that dismount has a high score so even fumbling it a bit would still mean high points. Truly a fantastic routine.
I don't get why people think that she should've gotten deductions for "not keeping her feet together during giants." That's done by many gymnasts to avoid hitting the low bar, which would incur 0.5 deductions. Just like Komova, who had to learn the hard way after hitting the low bar with her feet during a giant in the EF in London, which unfortunately costed her the gold. After that, she learned to make sure to separate her legs when her feet approaches the low bar.
She's doing the method called "Russian tap". No way would she she doing this way if she was only getting hit hard with deductions. She's doing it correctly.
It's not a deduction that she separates her legs when she swings on the high bar. She separates them to avoid getting deduction actually. If she didn't separate them she'd hit the lower bar and that's a big deduction.
Ashley Yoon exactly yes, that’s what I was saying. For a gymnast, she was “tall” so that’s why she did that with her feet. Maybe the judges mistook it and called it a deduction when it really wasn’t.
It was with the old scoring system where much less was deducted. After bejing the 2009 COP made literally everything deductible. After london everything got devalued a little bit and after rio every score was made 5 tenths lower. After tokyo the scoring got even more strict with the 2022 cop. So basically we will never see anything close to a 17 ever again.
Wow! That was a great bar routine. I'm a gymnast competing Xcel Gold and I hope I'll be able to do all the amazing skills Nastia Liukin and other gymnasts can do!😊
Nastia was one of my favorites,Shannon Miller's been #1 in my book! Been following Women's Gymnastics since the days of Mary Lou Retton...can't wait for this year's Olympics...I'm sure our U.S. team will represent well, they always do! 💯👏👍♥️
Minami Suzuki Scoring systems change all the time. In 2000 a 9.8 routine was worth a 9.6 a year later- hence they changed the scoring system to one with no ceiling.
cheyenneoc Thank you for saying that! Whenever I watch clips from the 2008 Olympic cycle I keep wondering why the scores average a full point higher on 3 of the events. You comment is the first explanation I've found.
Minami Suzuki You don't have to compare her difficulty with today's gymnasts. All three of China's UB workers had routines that could/should have beaten her. Especially He Kexin(who did) and Yilin(who was ripped off)...
Vette gaddia well i don't see why people say yilin was ripped off. I mean nastia had a higher d score. Moreover the olympics took place in china itself so i mean you wouldn't be a against ure own countrys gymnast.
"Tell me this doesn't look like a kid playing on the playground, just flying around" Um, okay. This doesn't look like a kid playing on the playground, Tim.
Judging is dumb at nationals, realistically there would've been 0.1 off for flexed feet, 0.3 for the cow boy, 0.3 for the low landing, and 0.5 for the step. I literally just found double the deductions of what the judges found.
Jose Nguyen Usually at US events, the gymnasts are given a few extra tenths for doing difficult skills (usually 0.2-.0.4). This is why their scores are inflated.
The bent knees on the giants is a bail tap, it has become a somewhat acceptable techniques used by taller gymnast. The FIG bar settings don't change, so you have to come up with different techniques to accommodate different body types.
She is absolutely gorgeous on this! But when I saw the 17.1 score, I was skeptical, but then I saw somebody write that this would be a 15.666 in the new code of points and that made more sense. Great routine though.
@Mrmartinnico It's a double-front, half out. If she did a double front, she'd end up facing the bars, but she does a half-twist in the final salto that ends her up facing away from the bars.
As many others have pointed out, she has to separate her legs to avoid hitting the low bar, and that doesn't incur a deduction (although the bent knees on the giants does). Elfi still made an incorrect comment, because she separates her legs every time she does a cast.
@stargaze17 i think they took out the double layout cause she got pretty tall (for a gymnast) and that makes it harder cause you're gonna hit the ground sooner cause your body needs to be totally straight.
@octoberbabycheer i like this dismount despite the flexed feet. I think it's cool. it's sort of a "fierce" finish instead of the "elegant" finish you seem to prefer. i guess it's just a matter of taste. why she faltered with her dismount? after she came out of the tucked position her chest was down for too long then when she landed she was bent over at the hips, forcing her to walk forward to gain balance. if she had brought her chest up sooner when she got out of the tuck she wouldve stuck it.
That man was Valeri Liukin, her dad and coach. What he was doing was "spotting" so basically if she looked like she might miss the bar on the release move he'd either catch her or help her fall onto the mats without hurting herself. ;D he's awesome at spotting!
she isnt over scored aside form the dismount she did a beautiful routine with no visible mistakes, because she got a 6 tenth deduction on this routine! and im sure the judges know what there talking about they dont get amatures for the OLYMPICS!!
I'll never understand why people are so salty when a U.S. gymnast is "over scored". To take the time to catch EVERY deduction possible and essentially route against the girls representing our country, is mind boggling to me. Just appreciate amazing gymnastics...
at the olympics they took off for her bent legs in her giants (which usually judges dont do) and were probably more strict on handstands. these judges were probably more lenient and only took off for the dismount.
+mrsjojo xoxo Not for deductions, but if you believe in avoiding a spinal injury it is. And probably a good reason she never connected anything out of it.
how does she do the one arm full turn?? what grip does she use? I just can't picture it in my mind without her arm snapping in half! lol :) she must use a mixed grip but i can't see it...
@GymMonkeyAz they don't mean that her skills are child like, they mean that the ease in which she performs her skills remind you of a child swinging around because they are so flawlessly executed.
It was 7.7 with the old code of points but it changed in 2009 (?) and I thought it was lower now. If she performed this exact same routine right now, her D score would be lower right?
@Elle23345 i agree. like of course i cant do what she does. but i do gymnastics and i know what is looked for in each routine, just like many other people who comment on her videos. like how, in this competition, her bar routine had less flaws than her beam routine because she wobbled a bunch of times. and for this bar routine her dismount was clearly flawed. but despite that, her talent is clear.
@448cv In the last code, it wasn't that kinda harsh, even though there were small mistakes all over her routine, like not hittin' the handstands in pirouetting skills, etc.
@Elle23345 yes, everyone is saying "I'd like to see you do her routine" but when they do it makes sense. Before you can judge Nastia and point out her flaws, you should be able to preform her bar routine as well as she can.
@marushk161 Her knees didn't touch the ground, so while it was a really low landing, it isn't a fall. Obviously the judges didn't think so either. In America the judges are a bit biased towards the big stars like Nastia and Shawn, that's kind of the way it is.
@ImposssibleIsNothing well my gymnastics friends and i would always do kips and casts to handstand on the playground bars at school... maybe tthat was just us though..
It depends on de difficulty of the routine, for example, Nastia's was 7.7, and then the execution is maximum 10, but points are taken out for every mistake. To get the result you have to add de DV and the execution
her start value was something like a 7.7 or 7.9 so seeing as the rest of routine was pretty much flawless its possible the only significant deduction they found was on the landing
@gymnasticluver13 I agree. When she hit her double layout she looked like she was floating out there. I personally loved the arch in her back when she threw that dismount but technically I suppose it is not correct. I think Nastia was getting hit too hard for form issues tapping into it, etc. which is why they switched to that gawd fugly frog legged double front-half dismount which mars the beauty imo of her overall performance.
The best, the very best, no question, no contest, hands down the best USA UB specialist there as ever been...

No, it does not look like someone playing on a EFFING playground!!! I have never seen anyone do this on a playground.
relaxxxxx they meant she makes it look easy!! its a huge compliment
I understand what they mean to say. Tim just says it so often. STOP already
"PLAYING ON A PLAYGROUND" THAT MAKES ME LAUGH SO MUCH
I wonder if that's what Tim's kids looked like playing on the playground as they are almost adults now
THE ANGER IN THIS IS HILARUOUS
the fact that she got a 17.1 after that rough dismount speaks volumes
Speaks domestic competition
@@gabrielalmeida647 hahaha

+nathaliexlr8 I think it's actually because she would always bend her knees during the giants, which should incur a deduction.
Shana Liu I don't see bent knees...Maybe you could comment a time in this video because I didn't catch any
+Shana Liu she doesn't bend her knees their so straight that they look bent true stroie lol Im not lying

Jasmine Simmons its not. You can straddle you legs if your to tall or if you prefer it over piking.
namjoon’s ostrich neck why do i see you on every video😂
Victoria Kessova every gymnastics video you mean? It’s because it’s my favorite sport maybe? Lol
Ashley Yoon exactly yes, that’s what I was saying. For a gymnast, she was “tall” so that’s why she did that with her feet. Maybe the judges mistook it and called it a deduction when it really wasn’t.
namjoon’s ostrich neck What IS a deduction is bending your legs past the bar. Straddle giants are fair game, but bending your legs isn't allowed
Those handstands were incredible. Her lines will never be duplicated
Viktoria komova has similarly graceful lines. But yah, Nastia's is just one of a kind.
Wow, I’ve never seen a gymnast get a 17.100. She’s amazing!

It is funny that she got a 17.1 with a dismount like this and nowadays a gymnast with a nearly perfect routine isn't even in the 16s.

those perfect handstands !

she did the same difficulty in the Olympics, stuck her landing, did great connections and got a lower score.
She is amazing!
@THEpozzle
there were more deductions in the routine, remember your score isnt just based on your landing!
How did this get a higher score than day 1 with that dismount?
pretty sure cause she hit all those handstands and everything else. i’m not the best gymnastics analyzer lol

yeah it would be because in the new code of points, only 8 skills count towards the difficulty score. in 2008, 10 skills counted
