Europeans can barely do anything with their own governments. Why would they know more about ours? It's also funny that Europeans don't understand how much we pay to keep your economies afloat. The US shells out 80% of all NATO on a given year and then the rest of the countries make up the other 20%.

@@LalaDepala_00Not so much they yell, they want European countries to spend more on the military, but they don't want it being done at an EU level that integrates their militaries together, as that would make the EU a lot more powerful on military and forign policy matters, it would weaken the US voice in Europe and around the world, it would also give countries around the world options, many of which don't like the US.
The biggest weakness in the EU isn't the economy or the military, it's that we have 27 voices, pulling in all directions, Trump ironically, could be the solution to solve that problem but it would actually backfire on the US in many ways.

It seems rather odd to say that the thing you have taken from the events of recent years is to think that that worries (or "scaremongering" as you put it) about Russian militarism, aggression and willingness (even desire) to gamble and to destabilise the international order is somehow all nonsense!
If the invasion of Georgia didn't bother you, or the annexation of Crimea, or paramilitarism in the Donbass, and (of course) the continuing threats and interference in the politics of neighbouring countries, assassinations on the streets of foreign countries (including here in the UK), if all that passed you by as scaremongering, you might think that just the full-on military invasion to attempt to just take over their largest neighbouring country with the exception of China (all while looking the entire world in the right in the eye and saying "no, of course we're not going to do that"), continual threats of nuclear weapons use, frank and unapologetic territorial claims and threats against other countries that Russia sees as "belonging" to it and seemingly deliberate provocation of NATO boundaries, maybe all that might make you go: "Oh, maybe Russian military aggression is an actual problem. Maybe they really are dangerous and a threat to international security."
If not, what the bloody hell *would* it take to come to that conclusion?

I think the problem is that Americans are always at war with someone. Their military is everywhere so unless a b0mb is dropped on them directly they would not care because if it's not them it is at it always has been for them. Nothing changes FOR THEM. If it is Iran, Afghanistan, Laos, Nigeria, Palestine, Israel, Russia, Ukraine... it doesn't matter to them. And I hate to say it but we (Europeans) were the same for the most part until it came to our doorstep. And even now the further we are from it the less we care.

In 2022, EU countries imported $680 billion worth of goods from China and the US $563 billion in absolute numbers, but per capita it was $1520 for the EU and $1670 for the US. It's important to note that the EU number includes US brands manufactured in China (due to labor costs) such as Tesla, Apple, Xbox, Nike (and many other clothing brands) which are manufactured in Mexico or domestically for the U.S. market. Also former US brands that were sold to China such as Motorola, Thinkpad, Segway, etc....

So let me say it so. the last 8 years, Germany with 80 Million people (and 1/3 of them already have a migration background) has taken 4 Million additional Asylants. We have a situation you as normal German cant find anymore a apartment because ALL of them are rentet, we even have Hotels, Sport halls and container full with asylants we have no living room for. The US detachment and often willful ignorance about the rest of the world and the plight of those inhabiting it may be nothing new but the reckless abandon of authoritarian leaders toppling democracy (or threatening to) has become far more frequent in this new age of populism. The suspicion and surpression with which the US has regarded European independence - often using NATO for its own ends, is also nothing new but the sense of alarm of the potential consequences is. Notably, Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons to Russia in the 90s, in exchange for guarantees of independence and neutrality. Given the disregard for that in the face of naked ambition and aggression, it is hardly surprising its driven historically neutral nations to try and join a military alliance for safety. Furthermore, it can also be unsurprising that there is disappointment and fury at a US that simultaneously complains about its structural issues, yet insists on its eternal superiority. Hopefully, at least if the US does abandon us, we can at least embargo their arms companies in favour of the plethora of reliable European ones (Glock, Steyr, Dassault, Thales, H&K, Mauser, Rheinmetall, Beretta, Airbus, Saab, BAE, etc.).

And I also agree that Taiwan is actually a great risk to Europe. Thing is, way Europe is now greatly benefits from so called rules based world order and how things are now. But both China and Russia are clearly trying to annex more territory where they can, and use all kinds of authoritarian economic and diplomatic tricks to further their goals.
Don't get me wrong, I have a huge list of criticism for US, just like I have for my native country. But I don't think they are anywhere as bad as China or Russia. The dissonance is about cultural differences, the US is about social status (needs to dominate, is conflictual) and is materialistic while Europe just wants to chill, doesn't want complications.
At this point it's hard to say that the US is civilized - health care costs, education costs, worker rights, death sentence, crime rates. Europe's relationship with the US is tending towards being like a marriage between AOC and Trump.

The US after all have always shown that they need wars to happen a lot to feed it's military complex, so as much as they can help, you get a sense that they are doing what's in their own interest and don't really care what's going on in Ukraine, whereas the EU view is hard to judge, but being that Ukraine is much closer, I highly doubt those European countries want a war on its doorstep.
In any case, Russia isn't a threat to the EU countries, hence why there seems to be less panic in EU countries about Russia then there is in the US, after all, you have to put things into context, Ukraine is one of the poorest countries in Europe, they are not in the EU or NATO, they were an easy target for Putin, especially considering the natural resources Ukraine has, we also need to put it into context that Russia's economy isn't that big compared to the EU, US or China, and it's performance in Ukraine is showing that they are a lot weaker than many expected.
